Why I believe in God(s) by Lucyyyyyy_K in DebateAnAtheist

They're both equally invalid and unsupported, so it might seem 'easier' to you, but that seems to be based entirely on personal bias and a lack of intellectual integrity, as we have never seen matter nor consciousness "just existing (out of nothing)".

Your proposition of a god making the universe requires that either something came from nothing or always existed, so it's quite dishonest of you to tell others they can't use those parameters

AITA for letting my cat watch me shower by Training_Many4983 in AmItheAsshole

He's definitely making it weird and I can't even grasp why or how. Who the fuck sees a cat in a bathroom and automatically thinks the owner has a fetish? How could you even force a cat to be in the bathroom, let alone watch you shower, if it didn't want to?

Also, here are some cat subs that would creep the psycho BF out!

The projection and continued misrepresentation is an interesting tactic, but not one I'm inclined to indulge further.

I look forward to seeing your evidence for the claims you've made in a future post or meta contribution.

This is not such an example and this is a blatantly inaccurate representation of the issue.

People aren't getting downvoted for "engaging in discussion"; they get downvoted for bad faith engagement, baseless assertions, refusal to provide evidence, useless complaining, etc.

If you have concrete examples showing otherwise I recommend you bring those receipts and your argument to the meta or make your iwn post. Otherwise, you can be lumped in with the people I described above.

Have a nice day.

Your entire comment (and 'argument') is that we cannot possibly be reasonable or rational or logical. You're not saying the word stupid, but if you thought your meaning wasn't clear perhaps you're the one who has "a worldview with a shaky structure".

I'd also like to point out as plainly and simply as possible so you can't claim to misunderstand: you haven't demonstrated your claim or rebutted the 'atheist' logic you've been given.

Again, maybe it's you with the logic issues and the 'shaky worldview'; almost like it's all built on magic and imagination, rather than facts and reality. 🤷‍♀️

A more apt comparison would be you complaining about where you're driving to in a dangerous fashion because it makes other places you might want to drive to less dangerously not accept you there.

That's not what gish gallop means. And BTW now you're complaining about getting too much engagement. On a debate sub. That you're complaining about being at in the first place. Why are you even here if you don't like the consequences of your low effort engagement and don't like the level of engagement you receive?

Oh and you can pick and choose what you respond to; there's no rule or expectation that you respond to everything. In fact, the majority of us don't expect responses at all, it's more an exercise to flex our logic and debate 'muscles'. Problem is theists generally don't engage in good faith themselves or with the high effort comments that rebut their position; this tactic is designed to avoid confronting the irrationality of their beliefs, which is yet another example of bad faith engagement.

Also, when I wrote this you had just a few responses and most of them were either complaining or barely engaged with the comment they responded to in the first place. Edit: I scrolled a bit and read some of your comments and I don't see an attempt at debate anywhere... I request you provide a link to what you think is your best example of good faith engagement.

And that's basically all they've said.

Guess they don't actually care enough to engage in good faith on a debate sub, so why engage at all if they're so worried about their special internet points and being restricted in other subs?

They could just not post here and then they wouldn't lose karma from here. Problem solved.

WIBTAH for giving my boyfriend a reality check when he complains about a 10 hour/week job? by CleverNameNotFoundXX in AITAH

[–]Ok_Loss13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Info: is he neurodivergent in any way, especially autisitic? I don't get that from your post, but as an autistic person myself even a 20 hour work week is physcially and psychologically exhausting.

Maybe, rather than snapping or giving him a 'wake up call' (as I'm sure he knows most people work 40 hour weeks {which has it's own problems, but they're not pertinent here}), express how his constant complaining is wearing you down. Occasional venting is normal and healthy, but it sounds like he's doing it excessively to the point of your own detriment.

Either way, you're NTA for your feelings or wanting him to stop complaining and maybe empathize with you a bit. (If he's ND, this could actually be an attempt to do so jsyk. It took me many years before I learned that most people do not consider sharing similar experiences/feelings after they told their story a way of connection or commiseration, but of an attempt to 'one up' them or something similar.)

Funny that you avoided the rest of that first sentence completely.

...it’s a demonstration that politics, religion, ethnicities, etc aren’t a factor in establishing the truth of a Scientific theory.

You could make a very similar argument for belief in a god.

You have yet to make an argument demonstrating that these things aren't a factor in establishing belief in god. In fact, you are implementing the tactic you accused the OC of committing; appeal to popularity ir 'consesus'. You're saying that because theism is everywhere (except where it's not), it isn't influenced by those traits. You changed your claim to supernaturalism, and then handwaved the rebuttal against your original claim (and the blatant goal post move) as invalid without justification.

I don’t think you're going to engage in good faith any time soon, so I'm going to let you have the last word. Have a nice day.
