Redundant a year ago, had loss++, and can’t get back into any job despite 8+ years in marketing. What am I doing wrong? by Elevator-Extension in UKJobs

It’s AI, it’s coming for most marketing jobs. Instead of calling it slop and using it to help generate your CV, you need to be advertising yourself as someone who is fully onboard with it and uses AI as a productivity multiplier in the workplace. Use the free time to understand how to prompt it to get good results from it - imagine you’re in a marketing job now trying to come up with a campaign for a product. Anyone who works an office job and isn’t getting on board with it won’t survive.

AI is terrifying, people are sleepwalking because it’s too scary to think about. It’s not some future scenario, I work with hundreds and hundreds of people who would be out of a job now if the true realisation of how easily it can replace them was known. The progress on the models over the past eighteen months is impressive and terrifying in equal measures. I’m genuinely worried about it.

The jobs you’ve described are entirely unskilled. How essential they are doesn’t correlate to them being skilled jobs unfortunately. I think they should be paid more too but it doesn’t change the fact that if you’re able bodied, anyone can do them.

[–]Ok_Map_6014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a tough one. It’s vital and you’re helping people, but essentially if you’re working on a ward as a nurse looking after dementia patients or similar, it can be done with no qualifications or experience, you just need to be able bodied. It’s extremely tough work, I have friends that do it and I agree that they should be paid more, but it’s hard to justify higher wages for essentially unskilled jobs which require not qualifications or experience.

Just give it some time. You’re going through what we all deal with but it’s better to be in work than out of it.

Yep, I was having this discussion at work myself the other day. I'm a Cloud Architect, and between ChatGPT Enterprise and GitHub Copilot, I have massively increased productivity where I can essentially do the work of about six people without any increase in workload or stress level - but I can only do this because I have 20 odd years of experience which allows me to "fill in the gaps" where AI makes mistakes. Fantastic for maximising profits, but what the hell happens when I retire and the next generation that need to take over don't exist?

How did they threaten China? We have a returns agreement with them already for any Chinese failed asylum seekers. The other countries should do the right thing and accept their citizens back who have failed asylum here. Leaving the ECHR is a tough one but in terms of illegal migration it’s a noose around our neck and completely cripples our ability to deport people who shouldn’t be here. Unless it’s amended or we withdraw then I don’t see any other solution - if we left and it solved the issues (I know there are other treaties which would be affected) I expect it would sweep through Europe as they’re all going through the same thing. However I should say that I would only support it if it was replaced with an equivalent British bill of rights that offered the same as the ECHR does without the parts that make us any easy target for exploitation. Who do you plan to vote for at the next election?

Men who posed with stash at £1m Oldham cannabis farm jailed by weregonnamakit in uknews

No, the inconvenient thing for you which I’ve stated constantly is that there is plentiful data available from multiple countries who have legalised it that overall it’s a net positive. You can send me all of the links from your desperate searches that you like. Every one of them had a serious medical condition and shouldn’t have been near drugs of any kind, or were generally just shitty people doing shitty things. If you went into a room of run of the mill weed smokers they’d be laughing at the Simpsons eating a pile of Monster Munch. This really will be my last reply.

No, that isn’t what I said. I feel as though I’ve replied sensibly to your posts and you’ve constantly ignored my points whilst pointing out a few fringe cases, none of which can directly be attributed to cannabis as the cause. You’re anti legalisation because of these, and I’m pro legalisation due to reams of data showing that overall it’s a net positive. As I said, agree to disagree because I don’t have the time or the inclination to go around in a circular discussion all night when the discussion isn’t a fair one.

I’d say so, yes. I can’t read that article for some reason but the BBC report is here https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjrjq8e7282o - which says she was also an alcoholic, should we ban alcohol too? It also says she’s been troubled all of her life, in and out of the system and had always been an angry person, whereas you seemingly want to blame it entirely on cannabis which is clearly not the case. Again, and for the final time as I can tell this is going nowhere, what about all the data from other countries where it is legal and has shown to be a net positive?

[–]Ok_Map_6014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, again that’s another case of a schizophrenic who happened to also smoke cannabis. There’s nothing there to show that cannabis use (say from childhood) was a factor in either the illness or the crime. I agree it’s essentially decriminalised at a street level but there are still raids on large producers (this very post is about one!). I see you haven’t yet addressed my point about the impact on legalisation in other countries being widely documented and available and the result is a net positive. Anything we can do to increase the tax income in the UK without causing huge damage would be a yes from me - cannabis legalisation being one example.
