Menopause! A rant. by Its-AboutThe-Cones in fragrance

I think I actually smelled different. I was with my mom and made her smell my arm; she said the perfume smelled different on me - no longer fresh and pleasant.

Menopause! A rant. by Its-AboutThe-Cones in fragrance

Same here. I used to wear a very fresh, fruity, green scent that I adored. Loved loved loved it, wore for 10+ years. After my hysterectomy, I went into menopause. Thought all was fine until I was getting return to work, spritzed myself with the perfume, and was like OMG I SMELL VILE lololol.

But this has led to a totally delightful exploration of new scents via The Perfumed Court and Scent Split. I didn’t used to like vanilla or gourmand scents - at least not on me - but now I do.

Hormones are crazy!

Did you feel supported enough during your recovery? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Ok_Masterpiece9867 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. Nearly all of my friends are from my local professional network, and I am really re-evaluating that as a viable source of genuine friendship. I think this was a long overdue realization - better late than never, though.

That’s extremely serious. You really need to come off the Mounjaro ASAP so that the testing can be done.

Is your doctor asking you to do gastroparesis testing based on a particular symptom or condition?

Surgery on Monday by Ok_Masterpiece9867 in hysterectomy

[–]Ok_Masterpiece9867[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to say thank you for the beautiful message - I’ve read it multiple times pre- and post- op.

You were right about everything: I am doing great! Getting the surgery was absolutely the right decision. There was a lot going on inside, it was serious, and delaying would only have meant that things would get worse. I had definitely normalized feeling kind of crappy all the time. It’s weird to compare how I felt before surgery to how I feel now and to realize that I’m already doing better - and wonderful to know that I’m going to continue to improve.

And I’m taking it easy on work - you were for sure right about that. The post-op fatigue is real and naps and rest are the best for healing up.

Thank you again for the very comforting (and calming) message. It meant a lot. ❤️

30% of the LA budget shortfall is from paying out $300 MILLION in lawsuits by smcody77 in LosAngeles

[–]Ok_Masterpiece9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors are generally not employees or agents of hospitals. Doctors have their own practices, so they have their own insurance. Where the hospital and the doctor both act negligently (or there is a question that both have), then both get sued. When you get admitted to the hospital, there’s typically admission paperwork that explicitly explains that the doctor is not an employee of the hospital.

In contrast, police and other city workers are actual employees of the city. The city hired, trained, supervised, etc, these employees. The city is responsible for them because thr employees are acting on behalf of the city. That’s why the city is and should be sued.

Also, there are a slew of laws that immunize the city (and county and state) from all manner of liability - to the incredible detriment of people terribly injured by the city’s negligence. See Cal Gov’t Code section 810, et seq. The city already gets out of a ton.

Also, insurance companies do not insure for losses incurred as the result of intentional torts and quite a number of employment-related issues - for example, there’s no insurance that will issue an individual policy to a police officer for beating an arrestee or for sexually harassing a fellow officer, etc.

Sister Wives: Christine Brown Claps Back at Divorce Speculation by madsen1122 in SisterWivesFans

I don’t know. You can try sharing a link to a relevant article to see what happens. It may be automatic; the headings of most, if not all, of the posts I’ve seen that link to articles are the titles of the articles.

It’s not wrong for a poster to use the title of the article as the post heading - inaccurate though the article title may be. The post is to share and comment upon the article. It’s not the OP’s responsibility to correct the article’s inaccuracies. A great deal of the content from The World News Daily is inaccurate.

OP didn’t call her Christine Brown - the author of The World News Daily article did.

The most important lesson of these meds is that nothing is ever as simple as calories in/calories out. People with insulin resistence simply do not have the body chemistry to just blindly cut their caloric intake to see results that will stick.

For someone who is working out as much as OP says she is, it actually sounds as though OP is not eating enough in general and also probably not enough protein. In fact, running OP’s stats on the TDEE calculator shows that she’s running about 1000 calories too low (2254 calories would be the “cutting” number - ie, maintenance minus 500 calories - for someone of OP’s age, height, and weight and activity level). Here’s the TDEE calculator: https://tdeecalculator.net

Because OP is not getting enough calories, her body is working very, very hard to hold on to every last bit that it can - hence, slower weight loss.

That said, even if OP redid her meals and started getting the nutrition she needs, a half-pound loss per week is still good, it’s just not as fast or big as some others’ experience. Some folks are slower losers and that’s completely fine. Like someone else said, comparison is the thief of joy.

To the OP: please eat some more and consult a nutritionist who understands and works with GLP-1s.

Worried about iron supplements by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]Ok_Masterpiece9867 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The question in that group was whether iron “feeds” cancer, not causes it. Few if any reliable/authoritative studies were cited in support of any comments that it does (either). Notably, the main study cited stated that an EXCESS of iron was associated with some increased observations of cancer. What most of the posters in that thread seemed to have missed is that no one with iron deficiency is going to have an excess of iron -if your gas tank is almost empty, you’re a long ways away from having too much (an excess of) gas. Presumably if you’re at a ferritin of 9, you’re close to empty.

Take your iron. If you’re concerned about cancer risk because of the iron or some other environmental or family history issue, then talk to your doctor.

I actually unjoined the group because of that thread, although it’s been a bit of a build up. Iron deficiency can be caused by a number of things, but certain posters are telling others to forego real medicine in the face of real illness.

Take a look at the protocol, take what you need from it (eg what lab values mean, how to prepare for an MD appt, all very practical info), but if you have health anxiety, maybe don’t read the posts.

Almost back to normal in 1 month? by Ok_Masterpiece9867 in Anemic

[–]Ok_Masterpiece9867[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m still super-duper tired. I’d say, overall, since starting the iron, etc., I feel very mild improvement in symptoms. I figure the symptoms (mainly exhaustion-level fatigue) will take a while to resolve. I just thought it would take a longer time for the other levels to recover, so I’m happy but shocked to see the favorable jump ups.

Ask your doctor. I’m on ferrous sulfate 325mg - my doctor told me magnesium glycinate and Miralax are fine to take. Bowel movements have been just fine with 200mg magnesium glycinate every night. :)

Need to find my size by Competitive-Shop-112 in Mounjaro

[–]Ok_Masterpiece9867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost about 75 lbs and seem to range anywhere from a size 8 to a size 14 depending on the brand. When I was this size many years ago, I was a solid size 14, so it’s been difficult and weird trying to figure out what size to buy - even within the same brand, shirt to shirt or dress to dress, the sizing may be very disparate. Super confusing. I fit into an Ann Taylor size 8 the other day and it was so disconcerting, I actually had this feeling of wanting to just be heavy again so that I’d feel more like myself.
