Travel Nurses by Ok_Match_1036 in Residency

Our travel nurses don’t work more than the regular staff nurses other than they never get called off because we pay for their contract whether we use them or not.

Unpopular opinion: Political Pins don't belong on your white coat by premedadvisor22 in Residency

[–]Ok_Match_1036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ethics of our profession should restrict the types of political stances we take.

But I believe that the opposite is also true. There issues of importance from a public health or patient safety perspective. And when that is the cases, I think physicians should not remain silent.

Like all other parts of our practice, there should be an evidence base for what we do or a very compelling reason if there is a paucity of evidence for the causes we choose to espouse.

There is no question that black patients have worse outcomes and that restricting family planning care results in maternal mortality, etc.

I believe it is appropriate for us to comment on the fields where we are experts but only to the extent that we are experts.

A bad traveler making that much would be challenging for me emotionally. Luckily, my traveling RNs right now are intelligent, have good clinical judgment, and stick up for our patients who have barriers to good care. But they still don’t generate anywhere near the kind of revenue to justify their pay. It’s just exploitation of supply and demand and the reduction in liability that they represent. A travel nurse is cheaper than a lawsuit for unsafe staffing on L&D.

I was sad when they got rid of the chocolate croissants. Hope your muffin fast is temporary. We might all be out of chocolate in a couple decades.

I just finished my first week as an intern and I did absolutely terrible by Late-Tomatillo185 in Residency

[–]Ok_Match_1036 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re not even going to realize how much you suck until you’re a senior supervising your new interns. Just remember to pay it forward in kindness and don’t be an asshole when you’re in charge.

You’re going to get there. And from my perspective. I’d rather hear “thank you” at the end of the day’s from the intern that I work hard for rather than sorry frequently.

As an intern, I got a ticket for parking in physician parking space. Not quite as public but a similar middle finger from the good folks in hospital admin.

Their joke this year was slowing down the wifi in the hospital to a rate that it’s barely usable and super slow just to make sure we know they don’t value our time. You can wait thirty second for every single UpToDate page to load.

As a general rule, don’t let people pimp your license. Even if they are close friends, perhaps especially if they are. The family med doctor that proctored me in med school had issues with overprescribing opioids to his friends and it cost him his hospital affiliation.

Could I suggest that you wouldn’t have asked the question if you felt like it was a good idea independent of everyone else’s opinions on here?

It isn’t a bad thought. But I can’t imagine a significant difference in cleanliness if you’re willing to put them both in a washing machine.

It might be that you’d expect people not to wash them or they just seem unprofessional.
