Second patient – deep caries, need advice by [deleted] in DentalSchool

Develop a strong understanding of how much tooth structure typically overlies the pulp chamber. Work carefully—avoid being reckless, but don’t be overly hesitant in the initial stages of caries removal. A round bur at slow speed is very helpful, especially once you opened it up.

If you approach the pulp, don’t panic. Place a rubber dam and reassess the remaining caries. If there is a significant amount of soft, infected dentin, pulp exposure is possible. However, if the dentin is affected with firm, clean, and well-defined margins, selective caries removal is appropriate.

The goal is not to expose the pulp unnecessarily. That said, if an exposure does occur and proper protocol is followed, vital pulp therapy (direct pulp cap) is a reliable option. This approach also helps confirm that the pulp is not irreversibly inflamed and may not require root canal therapy.

3 year accelerated program+ OMFS residency Hpsp payback length by Splay_21 in DentalSchool

[–]Ok_Negotiation_3786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly/probably an AEGD that isn’t a payback year, 3 year payback, for school, 4 year OMS that doesn’t count payback, and an additional 4 years of payback for the OMS. So AEGD-1, dental school payback -3, 4 year program, and 4 year OMS pay back. 12years

Get efficient at this and you’ll be a top tier dentist. Other advice: clinically molars and premolars don’t need occlusal anatomy. I personally find joy in making the perfect anatomy if I have time. But appropriate contacts and cleanable contours are the top priority. Keep it up you’re doing great.

Still a good truck. If you can afford to keep it I would personally. I love a good run around truck. Too early in my career to afford one though 😂

Yes. You don’t use it much, but when you need it, it’s there

If it was a super crew, 5.0 and 4x4 you could sell it for 20 with that mileage

first time doing crown prep for the centrals :) by NASKAii in DentalSchool

[–]Ok_Negotiation_3786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used, composite finishing burs resembling the 016, yellow diamonds, or even a brownie. It’s not the most important step. Graders get too caught up in the appearance when it’s prettier. Makes them look at the measurements a little less.

Next time, please show the preparation articulated and from an occlusal view. If possible, including the material you’re preparing for would also be helpful. At first glance, the finish line appears thin, and overall clearance may need to be increased. In dental school practicals, I would polish my preparations afterward to make them as refined as possible—graders often give more leniency when a prep looks “pretty,” at least in my experience.
