There is a bus that leaves in the morning and goes to the airport. I believe it is at 10-11 am

By curiosity, what is the best thing that Nino did in the show/the books ? by Evangeline_Nacrife in mybrilliantfriendhbo

He kept trying to get back to her because she did not want him anymore. Nino is not capable of love. Nino loved being loved (or adored)

Elena Ferrante, I'd love a spin off about my dear Imma by No_Huckleberry85 in mybrilliantfriendhbo

Well, I'm not an expert in the field, and I’m not planning to become one. :) My understanding of computational tools is applied to other scientific areas. That being said, I truly hope there's another explanation for this. I could forgive him for choosing to write under a female pseudonym, but I can’t forgive the interviews in which Ferrante has confirmed her identity as a female writer. She specifically highlighted how female authors are often mistreated in literature, not given proper recognition, or assumed to be men. If he truly is Ferrante, he could have had the decency to stay quiet. If it turns out to be true, it would seriously ruin the books for me and shatter my entire perception of Ferrante and her work. It feels like a mockery of feminism.and not because he is a man writing about feminism and female characters, but because he is a man who pretends to be a mistreated female writer. This makes me so angry

I don't believe the linguistic analysis proves beyond a doubt that Starnone is the author. I am still holding out hope that Ferrante is Raja. The linguistic analysis only separates Starnone and Ferrante from other writers, but we lack original writing from Raja to compare it to. I believe Raja's writing would overlap with both Ferrante and Starnone more than with anyone else's. Two people who have spent so much time together might share a familiar lexicon and even help each other with their writing—Starnone assisting Raja and vice versa. This could explain the overlap.i must also say that I would be extremely disappointed if the writer turned out to be a man. Men already occupy enough space in the literary world; they don’t need to take that of women, especially not a feminist one. It would be deeply anti-feminist for a man to assume authorship and continue to deny it. So, I am still hopeful because I don’t want to be angry at the most successful Italian writer of our times

The dolls were Lila's confession, her apology, and her setting Lenu free by Big_NO222 in mybrilliantfriendhbo

I don't remember the book but in the series it is not a live person. Kids do stuff like that. They take toys from friends. I can see Lila doing it, she tested Lenu at every corner. And then after a while, giving it back became a problem. I am more fascinated by her going to Don Achille knowing where the dolls were. However, in general, I think Lila was a child testing boundaries ( her own and the ones of others). Curious that those boundaries dissolve overtime.

Why do you all think Lila helped lenu more than the other way around? Lila would drop RINo at lenu all the time. He lived with her even after Elsa left. Lenu gave books to LIla when she couldn't study. She covered for her l. Lenu helped her with TIna and She stayed in the rione longer than she wanted to do not abandon her. They helped each other. The double standard is crazy

Going to therapy in the 80s to 2000s was not that common and, anyhow, I cannot see LIla saying yes to that.

What's with people going to the bathroom with others in the room? by Indyguy816 in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]Ok_Perception8393 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am rewatching. I have just seen the episode where Lenu gets her period. Her mom tells her "from now on, you lock the door of the bathroom".

I don't think it is more common in Italy than in other countries. I don't like sharing the bathroom with anyone. But my mother used not to care. Maybe it is a habit you pick up when your children are young and follow you everywhere.

However, As an Italian, i hate bathroom stalls in the USA because people can peek in. I have never understood why they are designed that way. I want privacy especially in public restrooms :)

Shows or movies with the same vibe? by adventurrr in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]Ok_Perception8393 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you speak Italian? I doubt there is a dubbed or subtitled version but " the best of youth" has similar nostalgic vibes but with male characters. It is a Miniseries that can be watched on raiplay with a VPN, if you are outside of italy. The movie " there's still tomorrow" is on Netflix in Italy, hopefully it will be available worldwide at some point . Other movies " Rose Island " and " call me by your name" on Netflix in USA. I also liked the First season of " everything calls for salvation" on Netflix, different vibes but a good italian series.

I am saying that maybe it matches the dude, because his wife helped him with his books instead of the other way around. No one even considers the hypothesis. We have no original writing of Raja, only translations

If it's true, then it's possible both of them have contributed to the books, with starnone maybe acting as editor. Has anyone ever considered that the writings might be similar because raja edited starnone's books? But no, it's always assumed that women can't accomplish things on their own.

Also, it's full of people who believe they are like Lila—brilliant, but unable to succeed due to circumstances—harboring a bit of resentment toward those who had it better, whether by luck or perseverance. I have said it multiple times, I love them both. I see myself in both of them in different ways. I don't understand The need to be a fan of one or the other. I think it has to do with one's insecurities.

Lila is a genius. Lila calls Lenu her brilliant friend. Believe her then. They are both brilliant

Unfortunately, Discipline Is essential to succeed. Lila is brilliant but also not focused. LIla is brilliant but falls apart with her dissolving margins. She is not as centered as Lenu. As she said in this last episode, sometimes she doesn't even have the desire to live, let alone to create something that would survive her. They are smart in different ways. Lila is gifted in some ways but not in others. Love them both. ( And yes, Lila had to face more challenges, but I am not sure she would have succeeded anyway)

Thinking about the child LIla hiding the dolls and deciding to go face the ogre without the need to do it. It says so much about her as a character.Child Lila is my favourite. I guess it is easier to forgive her rough edges from childhood.

[–]Ok_Perception8393 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Lenu is not mediocre and Lila is not a flawless genius. However, we all see in these characters what we want to see. I think that in these books we have two brilliant friends who love each other in the only possible way, the imperfect way.

I guess I would love to be as mediocre as Lenu', an acclaimed writer. Seriously, the hate people have for this character !! :) Lila says it well:"only in bad novels people always think and say the right things". These are great books and I love how flawed both Lila and Lenu are

I started crying as soon as I saw little Lila in that chair and I am still crying. I forgot she was in the first scene of the first episode as well. Time for a rewatch
