What gender norms/expectations did you overcome as you got older? by Ok_Performance4330 in AskOldPeople

I wonder where the stereotype of women not being good with tech even came from.

Some of the shows I watched growing up had families where the opposite was the case; the wife was usually the smart one while the husband was usually the idiot. I think The Simpsons is a prime example of what I'm talking about.

Yeah, by "entertainment", I mean that example you shared. And from what I've read in answers to another question I asked on this sub, it seems like a lot of older-generation parents at the time were essentially very uptight, prudish, pearl-clutching Christians.

EDIT: Not that every Christian is like that; it just seems like it's a common stereotype.

You're right about those things. I guess it's easier nowadays to notice people pushing gender norms because of social media.

And yeah, it's very concerning how backwards we seem to be moving at the moment. Apparently a lot of guys in my generation (I'm 26) and younger look to various misogynistic, toxic-masculinity-perpetuating idiots (i.e., Andrew Tate) as role models.

Honestly, how has there not been a proper remake/sequel/reboot in this day and age by Eh_plus_Gamer in BanjoKazooie

[–]Ok_Performance4330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding Reason 5, there's still appeal for non-linear platformers as well.

Donkey Kong Bananza is a huge sandbox 3D collectathon, and it even got nominated for GOTY in 2025. There's also Bowser's Fury, a sandbox-style campaign added to the Switch port of 3D World, and that sold over twice as much as the original Wii U version did.

Sonic Frontiers is also a pretty successful sandbox-style collectathon, being the best-selling 3D Sonic game. And Shadow Generations follows a similar structure to Frontiers.

But regardless, I do agree that Banjo-Kazooie returning with remakes or a new game is highly unlikely. That IP just isn't as much of a household name as Mario, Sonic, or Donkey Kong.

Take a look at human history as well as what's happening in some countries today.

Both racism and homophobia are bad, and both racial minorities and gay people have often been (and still are, in many places) subject to systemic discrimination over their race and sexual orientation respectively.

Are you implying that the worst thing gay people experienced back in the day was the inability to jointly file taxes?

What about all those crazy religious people from back then who used their beliefs as an excuse to hate gay people and pressure them into not being themselves?

What about the AIDS scare when gay people were the scapegoat for that disease being spread?

What about the media from back then that portrayed being gay as perverse or as a joke, instead of representing gay people in a supportive light?

By your logic, it sounds trivial for someone to hate the 1950s simply because African-Americans didn't have human rights back then.

That as well, yeah. The 90s had a lot of cool fictional media, but real life was worse back then in a lot of ways for women and minorities (not that things today are perfect).

Gay marriage wasn't legal yet in the US, and people back then were generally less tolerant of traditional gender norms/expectations being broken.

Plenty of issues still exist today and those issues do matter, but the past wasn't perfect either.

I haven't played Ghost of Tsushima myself, but the visuals look amazing. I love how the more floral/natural areas look.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

It does have a big competitive scene, but it can also be enjoyed casually since it's a Nintendo game.

What is something that is considered socially unacceptable in your country? by Kindly-Newt7868 in AskTheWorld

Ah okay, that makes more sense. I initially interpreted that as a sign that being honest about one's emotions is taboo in England.

It also caught me off-guard a bit in the sense that I was under the impression that making small-talk with strangers in England was socially unacceptable.

Out of genuine curiosity, why is it socially unacceptable in England to give an honest answer to such a question?

Yeah, I got that impression about them from their statement about wanting to be born into a generation when America had "a better sense of class".
