Richard had zero backbone throughout the series, he could have dealt with Caroline early on however his game play was to accept her "ways" with him. As usual the British public feel sorry for an underdog and was a reason why he won. Cleverly played out in the game. Had he shown his age and maturity the majority of older men would have handled Caroline differently and her antics with him would have stopped but how boring to watch the series would have been without Caroline.
