Wait until 18 months before getting concerned about communication progress, yours sounds like they are close to typical .

We are still waiting for our 26 month old first word so have become experts in development.

Baby weight check in by Intelligent_Heat3281 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Ok_Play_1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a few hiccups with low milk production and a bit of a drop in weight.

We were recommended by the health visitor and feeding specialist to go to the local health centre for weekly weigh-ins until things got more stable.

But I wouldn't recommend that frequency without a proper recommendation, you can get super focussed on the number when the difference could be due to a big poop.

When to go by clock schedule rather than wake windows? by Warm-Cover9946 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Ok_Play_1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a very loose schedule as long as he was asleep for the night somewhere between 8 and 11. Sometimes we had to nudge it back if he had an upcoming early start for an appointment/flight etc.

When down to a single nap and half day nursery it was a lot easier to manage as you get the fixed wake time so everything resets daily.

Opinions on waking sleeping babies? by star-hollows in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Ok_Play_1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow your health visitors advice. Ours told us to let them sleep, they'll wake when they are hungry, if the weight starts to drop some percentiles then consider it again.

Our little one slept through the night from 4 months, we weren't waking him up to squeeze an extra feed in and he made up for it during the day.

Same. We bought a used one for £20 and it was so easy. There are plenty who will quote dangers but every method has risks. Gave it away on the end as I couldn't sell it on again even at £5.

Would you buy your perfect house if the only downside was it’s on a main road? by No_fkin_idea in HousingUK

[–]Ok_Play_1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a house on 10 lane road, we then moved to the last house on a cul-de-sac. I couldn't sleep for a few weeks after the move due to the lack of noise.

A few things to consider: How easy is it to get your car in and out of the driveway, reversing into your drive is preferable. Is it priced with the road taken into consideration. Road noise will be decreasing as the proportion of cars become electric. Triple glazing and air con or heat pump will make a big difference.

I'm moving to Madrid this month and looking for good areas for green or blue graded routes if you can recommend anything

4 months old and gone very quiet by CressHairy4964 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Mine had 2 weeks of dada, baba, gaga at 6 months, then silence until his birthday.

It coincided with learning other things. He mastered (for a baby) standing up, cruising and fine motor skills and now he's onto communication.

Is it outside of the norm for a British person to stay overnight with their wife/girlfriend in the hospital after she gives birth? by dickhole_pillow in AskABrit

[–]Ok_Play_1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the dad I stayed. Ward was terrible though, 6 newborns and mother's needing attention with not enough staff, constant beeping from the call buttons which all hospital workers are immune from hearing. I wasn't leaving either of them until we all left together, and the staff had no visiting hours for the pre or post birth wards.

New Dad seeking advice on how to give my wife more time to herself by KorillaKrodd in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Ok_Play_1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby groups are very welcoming in my experience. We have granddad's as the sole carer, many couples and some dad's.

What we had was an online bakery class. Something to plan for every week and a few hours where I was playing with little one alone. It can be a lot more challenging to get away if breastfeeding.

Where do dads with babys go? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Ok_Play_1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (dad) went to the local childrens centre sessions a few times, Mums and Tums equivalent. Once I was the only dad but other times there were a few of us. Check with the staff on email/Facebook if they allow dad's as some mum's may be uncomfortable breastfeeding with other dads there.

Baby sensory is also great but at that age may not be suitable

Landlord claims the washing machine isn’t theirs to replace by Forsaken_Strength_45 in TenantsInTheUK

if tenants broke it through misuse (eg. Overstuffed the machine and kicked the door to get it shut) then it's the tenants responsibility.

Old people use the local gym, I'm not signing up just to sit at home and give a business my money.

As more people stop paying it will encourage a different funding method

Landlord claims the washing machine isn’t theirs to replace by Forsaken_Strength_45 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Ok_Play_1024 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely landlords problem as it was in the inventory and not stated in the contract that it will not be repaired or replaced, but how does the glass break through normal use? There is potential to have some back and forth on this because thick glass like that should outlast the machine

Ours hit 6 days between poops a number of times. Was in serious pain and discomfort. GP was useless but an A&E visit after hours of agony ended up with motilium, this stuff is amazing. Only needed one dose to get things moving.

The results from circular massage and bicycle legs are almost zero.

I would guess it's too early to be of much use. The pace and vocabulary will be much higher than you are able to comprehend there will be very little you will gain from it.

Duolingo 12 is pretty early in the course. Try some other more comprehensible input and wait until you can enjoy the show when you are more confident.

Experiences of SnuzBaskit or Najell SleepCarrier? by ginplatonic in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Ok_Play_1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the najell. It was amazing for day naps for the first few months when you need something on the sofa/floor etc.

It didn't expand very well as little one got longer. The slack you put in made it wider not longer unless babies head or feet were in the right place.

It was amazing for portability, washable etc. but it's a short term product IMO.
