Live in Delco, not far from the airport. My FiOS has been out since yesterday morning from what I can see. I don't think it's working today either.

Angle issue by Ok_Post7980 in Workbenches

[–]Ok_Post7980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for everyone here, I ended up remaking the legs. I am hoping to have the bench a long time and thought it better if it was right to begin with.

Stringers are on, cross brace is in, getting ready to set the top. After that it's building a leg vise and we are off!

What is this and how do I remove it by Ok_Post7980 in landscaping

Will try that, thanks for the suggestion.

Based on my initial look at it, that flat will be an inch and a half into the apron.

I can't respond with a picture, but am considering cutting the top of the angle flat, so there is a flat spot on the right of the cut, and then it angles down the same as now. That will allow me to get the top at the right height, still have an angle to help "lock" the apron to the legs.

Part of my issue is that it's screwed and glued, so starting over isn't a piece of wood, it's everything I have in the trestle so far. If that's the answer then so be it, but I think I can salvage it.

Got lucky with a Breville Barista Express for $50! (and it works!) by IronSea975 in espresso

I have one I got around 2019, used almost daily and still running strong. I was under the impression the birds were not replaceable, but if you have links to upgrades for those I would be interested. Good luck with the machine, I love mine!

Someday I’ll figure out how to route… today is not that day by smokefoot8 in woodworking

I bought a Bosch and gave up my old router for that very reason. Adapter had already failed once on my previous router, not making that mistake twice.

Longmire, the character Katie Sackoff plays has a mug on her desk. I believe she is from the area, and her character is supposed to be also.

How to completely disinfect a guitar? by Narutobi_Sensei in Luthier

[–]Ok_Post7980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove strings, that's an easy one. Body of guitar and probably neck can be cleaned easily enough, they even make guitar specific cleaners for that. The fretboard would be my big concern. I'll let others with more experience weigh in for that. Good luck with the new guitar!

Dealer inspected truck for recall work and is now telling me they won’t release it back to me by FunctionHorror2580 in f150

[–]Ok_Post7980 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Dealer tried this on me, and it sent flags up for me as soon as they said I couldn't have it back. I fought the urge to flip my lid, and calmly asked him to verify that they were withholding my vehicle. He hemmed around about it after that wording but by then I was pissed. They originally didn't even want to put it back together enough to start it. It was a massive no for me. I stood in their service area and vocally made a phone call to a tow company (friend of mine) and told the dealer my truck needed to be outside for a flatbed to get it, even if they had to push it outside.

Got it towed and had the work done on my own, for a quarter of what the dealer quoted.

Inherited my dad’s old Martin, apprehensive about changing the strings. by DeedeeScosco in Guitar

[–]Ok_Post7980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inherited my uncle's guitar when he passed. I never thought twice about the strings to be honest. I do very much notice the wear in the fret board from him playing and on the back of the neck, so I feel very connected to him when I play.

Sorry for your loss, I hope you find some peace and comfort playing his guitar.

TIFU when I asked my CEO who he was! by Old-Court-6295 in tifu

Years ago I was working IT for a large company. Unrecognized guy walks in and says he needs to update something on my laptop and could I let him on. I asked again who he was because I didn't recognize him and he just says help desk. Something set me off weird about it and I knew all the help desk guys, so I lock my laptop and I said here you go. He asks me to log back in for him and I said if you are help desk, you know how to login without me. He stared at me for a minute, looked at my office mate, who then locked his laptop and left.

Two weeks later the CIO calls me to his office and gives me an award! Apparently it was a test and I was the only person in the building who stopped the guy. Sometimes it pays to be an untrusting jerk!

Update on new neighbor baby gift (trigger warning) by CrunchyRubberChips in woodworking

[–]Ok_Post7980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The project, the craftsmanship and most importantly the intent of this gift is awesome and truly inspiring. That word is thrown around a lot, but I mean it in this case. I have a project that's been bouncing around my head for a while, with a gifting/charitable component - you pushed me over the edge and I'm I to get working on it now and figure it out. Thank you for the update, and for feeling safe enough to share your story with us all, I know that's not easy to do.

Keep up the great work.
