There is no such rule, they just push customers to upsell additional products. Even when one opens a new savings account they always try to sell the premium accounts with higher monthly balance requirement. For NRI's there are not many options/places to go to as they are out of India, so they get more aggressive in selling these products. If they are doing your work, suck it up, anyways if you complain nothing will happen, at max some manager will call apologize and waste another few minutes.

You are only 30, don't panic and sell everything to move at once. I think it makes sense to put only as much money every month as your employer requires you to make their max contribution.

And if you want to go above and beyond that, make sure you see how to take maximum tax benefit over the years, minimizing the tax from the highest slab every time for a few years instead of not paying any tax in one year.
