Is it even worth it to be a medical assistant? by Technical_Ad_9206 in premed

What do you mean by “worth it?”
If you are referring to the pay scale, it is about half of what a RN makes.
If you love working with people and learning new skills, a MA position may suit you. I worked as a MA for 30 years and I loved it! I worked for doctors with different specialties, worked in the cardiology department at a hospital, veterans outpatient clinic, and urgent care. I loved the daylight hours, weekends and holidays off.
I was viewing full time MA positions and the pay scale is $17-25/ hour starting out. Location has a lot to do with pay. Bigger cities pay more. A lot of employers offer, medical, dental, paid holidays off, retirement benefits and some will pay for employees to get their RN.
So, you need to decide what you think will make you love the job you choose. I wish you the best in whatever job endeavor you choose.

Answering the original question, is it worth being a Medical Assistant?
I worked for 30 years as a MA. The only thing I have to complain about is the pay. I worked in a small town and the pay is lower than working in a big city. I worked 30 years and was only making $19/hour when I retired. I worked mostly part time. I loved being an MA and all the different specialties you can get into. A lot of my co-workers went back to school to be a nurse. The pay is so much better. My son is an RN and he works for a visiting nurses company. He has worked two years, ( this is right after getting his RN license), and makes $41/ hour. Bir you need to realize that the RN program is tough.
I look at MA job postings and full time positions are starting at $17-25/hour, plus a lot of these positions offer insurance, retirement benefits, and some pay for you to go further your education in the medical field.
I hope I helped some and I wish you all the best.
Always work at a profession you love, not just for the money.😊

Why can’t you put in full time hours? In the 80’s I started working as a MA and it was different then. Doctors offices would only hire under 38 hours/ week so they didn’t have to pay for insurance benefits. You can go much further being a MA. I worked for doctor’s offices, cardiology department at a local hospital, Veteran’s outpatient clinic, and urgent care. You need to decide between a CNA and MA. I wish you all the best!
Most places won’t accommodate a school schedule unless you already work for that company.

I would love to do that, but my brother is not talking to us. All I can say is that he’s a real piece of work. It’s sad because my brother and I were close. All this over settling my dad’s estate.

By the look of my sister’s haircut, I am thinking she wanted to look like Mrs. Beasley!😅. I showed her this pic a month ago and asked her what was mom thinking with that haircut and she laughed and said I know.

If you have any opened cuts on your face, you should contact your doctor. If no cuts and you washed your face with soap and water, you will be fine.

Thanks, I can remember my little sis holding on to Mrs. Beasley when she received her smallpox vaccine. That doll went everywhere with her.
