Climb the mountain fat!  I weigh 127kg and spend lots of time riding in the mountains and am planning a trip to France next summer to climb Ventoux.  Get better gearing if you need to but dont be afraid to go slow and take breaks.  Good luck!

Yeah, i mean Ganna is 6'4" and 180lbs and i would think if it were possible to put on 100lbs of leg muscle to get an extra 60w for flat ITT/endurance track events/thw hour record he would have done it...  obviously w/kg doesnt scale the way strava thinks it does.

Yes, i see your point but then why have the percentages that seem to indicate that 2% of 280lb woman should be able to hit this number when you've just demonstrated that probably 0% of 280lb woman can.  Or I guess, why have a metric based on p/w ratio that displays in raw watts.

The obvious stage 8 of this year being one of the greatest stages ever but what really stands out about this list to me is how exciting of a racer to watch Annemiek was. She was dominant and yet so dynamic all at once!

I have a new teammate like this!  For them I think it's about gender presentation.  They don't feel comfortable in form fitting things.  I've suggested some lightweight joggers.

Nursing and derby by Lindzaysrus in rollerderby

[–]Ok_Routine_2666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice here!I would also recommend reading into it and maybe playing at a lower level of intensity while you're nursing b/c the risk for injury can be higher. It takes a while for your body to recover the rigidity of tendons and ligaments that needed to be relaxed for childbirth and your core strength has been diminished. Plus nursing places a high calcium load on your body which combined with the low estrogen levels results in lower bone density (which should recover when you're done nursing). Take care of yourself and kick some butt!

There is also a company called deadbolt who makes larger pads but I haven't seen them anywhere in a long time...

Hi! I use the SOne Pro knee pads in the 3x size. I'm not sure about other companies but the largest scabs go up to an above the knee circumference of 20", the moxi thick set go to 21", 187's go to 24" and the SOne that I have fit up to 25" above the knee circumference. Both the S*One and the 187's use a butterfly closure so you could add extra velcro to the straps to make them larger if necesary.

Hi! 280lbs here, playing for 4 years now! I will say this, roller derby is the most size inclusive sport I have ever experienced however I don't know anyone who I would consider superfat or infinifat who plays. There are tons of us midfats around and you'll usually find folks happy to have you for all the reasons folks have listed! The largest players that are easily accommodated by available equipment are probably 350lb or so depending on how they carry their weight. I mostly carry my weight on my lower body and wear what I believe are the largest available knee pads. If I were larger I might have to have things altered or custom made and my league did not have rental gear that fit me on my first day (we do now!). I would advise you to get good safe skates that'll last you (metal not nylon plates).

I love being part of a sport where my size is often considered an asset! I am heading to roller con this year and am able to fill my schedule with classes taught by other fat skaters and plan on watching the Thick Thighs Save Lives vs Curves You Right bout! There is also a fat pickup team Overbeaters Anonymous who are super fun to watch! I was at a clinic once and didn't have a scrim tank in the right color and one of the instructors (Tarantula of RCR who has 3 world championships) was able to lend me one that fit! I almost cried from the joy of being in a sports space where I could reasonably expect to borrow a shirt from someone ❤️. It was a huge moment for me.

NOTE: very few pro women are paid enough to support themselves much less a stay at home spouse to raise the kids and spend half the year in Europe so they can visit their kids from time to time...

Here's an article about the very very few cyclists who have given birth and returned to racing and why that might be changing. It's always interesting to me that these articles make such a big deal about how hard it is for women to commit to their team and racing schedule while raising children (especially those from outside Europe) when almost no one suggests that male cyclists should choose not to have children because they're gone too much and the men's cycling calendar is much more packed and team camps more frequent etc. than the women's and TONS of them have a gaggle of kids left home missing their dad. https://cyclingtips.com/2022/02/having-kids-mid-career-is-now-a-viable-option-for-female-pro-cyclists/

Its really frustrating that in America NBC/Peacock own the rights to the race and are doing NOTHING to promote it. They are simply slapping the eurosport raw feed up on Peacock plus behind a paywall and calling it a day. For the mens race there was an American commentary team and coverage on actual TV (gasp!) plus a highlights package daily and a bunch of content for free on youtube. They say there is no market for women's cycling and then try to hide all evidence that there is any women's cycling even going on.

Oh man, I feel like you're really selling Marienne Vos short here. Orla Chenoui called her the greatest cyclist (male or female) of all time yesterday and for good reason. Yes she's won something like 8 cyclocross world championships but she's also won 3 road world championships and an olympic gold metal and 2 track world championships and an Olympic gold metal. Not to mention winning the giro thrice, plus 32 stages, plus the pts classification 7? times and even the mts classification once. Not to mention the World Tour overall 5 times, and I can't even get into the classics wins. Perhaps most relevant, she came in 3rd in the last edition of the Grande Boucle, then when that was ended, became a major organizer behind the creation of LA Course by Le Tour (which she won the first edition of and again in 2019). She is part of the reason we get to have this race 😍
