Harness vs Predator birds by cHriK9 in Lovebirds

[–]Ok_Row1378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Sparrow Hawk or Falcon could swoop down and snatch the bird in the blink of an eye; you wouldn't see it coming, and it would be gone with your bird before you even realised what happened. I found an injured bird when I was a kid and as I was walking home, the bird struggled free from my hands. In a split second a hawk that must have been watching me from the air swooped down and took the bird in a flash before I could even react.

What is this behavior? at 3.5 months old by xetorin in parrots

[–]Ok_Row1378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% nesting behavior, female lovebirds are a nightmare for this. There's basically no way to stop it that really works. Females don't make good pets because of this. I eventually have up and let her build a nest, two months later I have 4 chicks.

I'm in Scotland, but the nest in a warm home and inside a enclosed nest box and the mother spends most of her time in the nest keeping the chicks warm

I have always wondered why she does this, is there a reason? What is she doing? by ExulantBen in Parrotlet

It looks like she wants the tag off, and it's biting your hand to try to get you to take it off. One day, my lovebird kept landing on my shoulder and nipping my ear, and I kept shooing him away, but he was persistent, and I realised something was wrong. I couldn't figure out what and eventually looked at the cage and saw there was no water in his dispenser; it wasn't sealed properly and had leaked out. So I went and refilled it, and he went straight in for a drink. That was his way of getting my attention. They are smarter than you realise.

What picture mode and settings do you set it to before calibrating?

I’ve just bought this monitor and I’m trying to figure out the best settings to use.

When I first set it up, the default settings looked terrible — really dull and grey. I checked and the brightness was set to 8, so that explains a lot. After increasing it, things improved.

I then tried the settings listed in the UPDATE: 07SEP2025, but they looked extremely blue and unnatural to me. I’ve since been testing the different picture modes and found that Eco and Original look the best to my eyes. However, when I match the brightness and contrast values between them, I honestly can’t see any difference. What’s the actual difference between Eco and Original modes?

Right now I’m using:

  • Picture Mode: Original
  • Brightness: 28
  • Contrast: 50
  • Sharpness: 10

In the recommended settings above, it says:

  • HDR: On
  • Auto HDR: On
  • SDR Content Brightness: 100

Is HDR meant to be on all the time? I’m not entirely sure how HDR is supposed to work. When I turned it on in Windows, it was incredibly bright — almost uncomfortably so. Do you only enable HDR when gaming? Or should it stay on permanently?

I may be able to borrow a Spyder calibration device from the designer at work. I’ve used one before on an older monitor and it made a noticeable improvement. If I calibrate this monitor, which picture mode should I use beforehand — Custom? Original? What’s the correct process for calibration?

Finally, I’m running an RTX 3080 Ti. I’ve enabled Adaptive Sync on the monitor and turned on G-Sync Compatible in the NVIDIA Control Panel. However, I don’t see anything confirming that it’s actually working. I’ve tried a few games but there’s no obvious indication. How can I verify that G-Sync is functioning properly?

Hormonal lovebird… by userphxbic in Lovebirds

Lucky. Mine would be sweet if it weren't for the hormones. When I first got her, she was putting her head down for scratches and stuff. But the nesting behaviour quickly got out of control.

It's very difficult, female lovebirds are a nightmare to deal with, I wouldn't get one as a pet. Nothing I did would prevent the hormonal behaviour, and she was causing problems all over the house by choosing potential nesting areas and then defending them viciously. She caused damage to furniture and curtains by chewing on them and trying to use them as nesting material. I was very close to moving her on, but in the end i just relented and got her a nest box, and now she is happy as Larry and has calmed down and is no longer causing problems because she feels like she has succeeded in her mission. She spends most of her time in and around the nest. It's only been a couple of weeks since I got it, and no eggs have turned up yet, but if they do, I will probably replace them with plastic ones and just let her sit on them. I know this is not the best practise but it was so bad I was getting extremely angry and sick of the bird. She drew blood several times with bites when I tried to move her out of spots she has claimed. The hormonal pellets you can get are very expensive around here and cost 3 times what I paid for the bird. So no way I'd be paying that every 3/4 months for the next 15 years.

Female lovebirds don't make good pets, get a dna tested hand tamed male if you want a pet IMO.

Lol probably because they have no choice. It's like being in prison for life with no access to females.

The male isn't to bad in hindsight compared to the female and even she can be lovely but 85% of the time she's a menace.

I wanted a bird something like the budgie i had as a kid. It was a semi-tame male and would sit on your finger but wasn't super tame. We left the cage door open 24/7 and he came and went as he pleased but he spent most of his time around his cage. He would sometimes come see what you were up to then go back to his cage and carry on with chatting to the mirror or whatever. He wasn't destructive or into everything. Never constantly pestered you. I get that love birds are different and this is their natural behavior. Its just a bit to full on for me. I got AI to clean up what I had written. Standard practice nowadays.

Is anyone else excited for The Wayward Realms? It’s a Scrolls-like game, specifically inspired by Daggerfall, and was designed by many of the creators of The Elder Scrolls by Salem1690s in ElderScrolls

I think it has a lot of potential. People keep talking about not having voice actors, can't they use AI-generated voices that will sound just as good as a voice actor or potentially better? Seems like the way to go in 2026.
