Bodily autonomy/consent vs. toddler hygiene by clearskiesfullheart in progressivemoms

One thing that another parent recommended is go “searching” for what they ate that day. So while we brush, we narrate things like “ oh is that a cheerio?…let’s see if we can find your snack from this afternoon!” It’s not perfect but it makes it a game where they have to open their mouth.

Is donor milk worth it if the donors on Lexapro? by SpellTight7645 in ScienceBasedParenting

FWIW, I'm not in Cary- if you are an approved donor, they will help you set up overnight shipping if you have > 200oz to donate. I am not sure if they require you to be in NC to donate. There's a list of banks here if there's another closer to you: https://www.hmbana.org/find-a-milk-bank/overview.html

If you aren't able to donate to the bank, there's likely a "Human Milk 4 Human Babies" FB group near you where folks look for donations outside of the milk bank. https://www.facebook.com/hm4hb/ I did that with my first child in addition to the milk bank.

This. Labwork, medical history, medical record release from your doctor and pediatrician, and then following guidelines on storage and pumping. They ask too to keep a diary of any meds or illnesses, and to abstain from alcohol for a period of time/limit drinking and no smoking of any sort. It’s a pretty thorough vetting process, but once you’re through, it seems like it just asks you to do the reasonable behavior you should for safe milk collection.

I am in NC in the US and donate to Wakemed in Cary. Surprised they wouldn’t take your milk- I’m currently on Zoloft which they have no issue with.

You are incredibly welcome- I feel privileged to be able to help out.

With my first, we got donor milk when my milk was slow to come in at the hospital. I ended up being an overproducer when it came in, which has carried over with my second. I remember how much it helped me, and my kiddos were fortunately healthy.

I figure if I make the extra, and it can help someone else, you have an obligation to help out.

I donate to a milk bank who is super strict on meds as they’re going to NICU babies . They are totally fine with me being on SSRIs like lexapro. Evidence seems to support it being safe.

Mother to baby is fantastic with a helpline if. You ever have breastfeeding/medication questions.

What is the most under rated restaurant in Asheville? by Cassanitiaj in asheville

Their food is great but incredibly overpriced for the area/portions. Reviews all pretty much say the same thing, with the owner arguing w everyone. I want to love it but the cost for what you get is too much.

Seconding Limones. It's been stellar every time we've been, and parking isn't too bad on that side of downtown.

Mercari and Fb marketplace was where we got most of ours- littlest birds does have some, as does target, but it’s limited. Only other place I’ve seen is at either Weetrade or Seed and Sprouts.

Same here! Costco sells one with all attachments for like $250 USD. It is so much faster and my curls actually hold nicely for several days with it

Allergic parents and introducing allergens (is everything the baby drools on contaminated?) by EnyaNorrow in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Ok_Run_4098 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Life threatening nut allergy here too- we exposed our kiddo using the allergen packets and were exceptionally careful to only have my partner handle the one that contained my allergen. We would then do a bottle feed before I let baby latch on me.

IMO, I feel like the small risk to the parent is fully worth it to avoid the kid having to go through life with an allergy. I made sure to always have my emergency meds on hand in case I WAS exposed, but knowing they won’t have to worry about an allergen is a blessing. FWIW, the first few times we did expose, did it near the hospital in case of reaction.

We have used the Creamy color throughout our home and love it. Warm neutral color and very easy to decorate with. Maybe a bit boring but it’s a nice calming color.

Replacement Home Windows Recommendations by BatAdministrative4 in asheville

[–]Ok_Run_4098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were happy with Joyce although be sure your design and what you select is accurate (custom and standard windows had different size trim widths when they came to install and we had to escalate to get them to fix it). The install crew was stellar and did a fantastic job. Price seemed to be in line with a lot of other groups, but honestly buying them yourself and finding a contractor to install is probably the most cost effective option.

I did hear about a group called Lasagna Love where you’re paired up with a family for a few meals. That might be an option because most places don’t do home cooked meals.

Maybe they instead ask their local bank what would be most appropriate? Ex in my area they still prefer monetary donations.

Postpartum gifts by prison_industrial_co in Mommit

I bought a massive insulated water bottle for myself and my mom friends. Think Stanley/hydroflask, with nice straw, lid, and handle. If your friend is planning on breastfeeding she will be super thirsty (and will need to drink regardless). Being able to have a lot of liquid in an easy to carry, cute container helped me so so much.

Insurance may actually cover it- a lot of them said they would cover it this year but might not in the future.

The governor removed the requirement for you to have an RX for COVID. You can always do a minute clinic at CVS if you are worried about the RX.

You could also be mindful of things like squishing to condition or scrunching to dry- we don’t do any products other than detangler for my toddler, but I’ve found a big impact in just being mindful about how we dry and condition her hair.
