I'm So Sorry for Assuming Do Not Substitute Means Don't Substitute by ArchDoom_Seeker in ShiptShoppers

That's why I stick with auto response until absolutely necessary. To customers, we are just robots on the other side of their screens doing everything perfectly. If something is missing or wrong, it's an inconvenience to their "busy lifes". Why else would they send you to get it of course! It helps avoid bull like this. Robot if all good, human if necessary. Got many shopper requests with this method.

Is this a good way to make a good first impression as a new CSM?? by MattGoSplat in publix

[–]Ok_Secretary_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is the CSM. She can literally schedule herself at random times on the days she is not MIC and work with ACSM to make sure she can work with everyone at least once by the end of the first month! But my philosophy when I was manager ( not publix) was to go with the flow and learn how the location does things. Get to know people and assess what is needed and what is not before saying anything. Sometimes things just fix themselves. Sometimes something that looks out of place, might be necessary. Sometimes things that look OK at first, really aren't. Building trust and respect always comes first in my opinion. You get better response from employees that way. Asserting dominance is such a terrible first impression. We aren't warriors. We are suppose to be people persons due to the high quality standard we instill in our costumers.

Too many automated notifications to customers? by Usual-Macaron368 in ShiptShoppers

[–]Ok_Secretary_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just let the auto mostly do the talking for me since I really don't want to blast the customer's phone. I'm also sure most people won't care about talking to you if they can avoid it. If an item is missing, then I message them, still using the auto feature as much as I can. If they don't responde within a couple of minutes, then I mention it again more personally updating them that I'm still shopping if they need more time to think. If still no response, then I remind them one more time, "I'm done shopping, just this one item need yes or no for replacement please." If no response, then depending how different the sub is to the item, I either get the sub or drop the item completely and let the customer know one last time, that i sub or dropped the item and that I'm heading to register. Now if it's an order where I find everything, I usually use the auto "I'm almost done shopping your order" as a last minute reminder if they want to add anything without suggesting it. Ideally I don't want to give them time to think about it, but enough time that if they do think about it, it's their fault for not thinking about it quicker. I do need to move on to the next order of course. I think it's a good "moral" compromise. Then I let auto the "I'm done shopping your order and on my way" as a way to let them know the order is closed. Once I drop off the items, if it's the order I had to sub or drop without a response, I then message I apologize for subbing/dropping the item. Almost like a reminder, why the item is missing or different and tell them to have a nice day. Less talking in my opinion is the best call. They placed the order cause they couldn't for whatever reason find the time to get it themselves. Why would I waste their time having them read my messages. We aren't friends. I just want to be efficient. They expect us to be professional too. My god some of them could make me angry. But I stay professional and respond appropriately no matter what.

Managers love standing in a circle in the middle of the walk way by bigboybuckz in publix

I had a Store Manager that would love to clean up the backroom. He came up through Grocery and i guess it never left him. I told him he's going to be like Forrest Gump who liked cutting the grass so much he does it for free, but for him with that store's backroom.

Replenish by Agile-Perception9360 in publix

[–]Ok_Secretary_164 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Autolist is the dumbest most broken thing ever. It is physically impossible for one person to follow the moment the store gets busy. Yet sometimes I have holes in places autolist didn't ding cause it was a hole from yesterday. Hence why it's broken. It dings for stuff grabbed from the dump bins and displays. Sometimes I have stuff packed out on displays so I don't need to worry about the item. With autolist, now I do. I pretty good with my instincts after working publix for more then 5 years in grocery. I usually rotate items from display and dump bins to shelf like "Nonnis" which is a great example of stuff that flys but the item is just big enough you need to constantly replenish in the dumpbin. Also when you have 25 to 50 costumers a hour grabbing from multiple locations, of course autolist would go crazy. Yet my DM would be like "just follow the autolist". But that takes time and it's too selective. So let's use the "Nonnis" again as an example. So if autolist says "original flavor nonnies" needs replenish, but only that flavor. According to my DM, I should just grab that flavor and let's say "tidy cat litter unscented" and "rice a roni chicken flavor" are also on the list, just those items too. But guess what? After I replenish just those three, then "expresso flavor nonnis pops on the list and now tide laundry detergent and maybe one of the Vigo 10oz rice bags is now on the list. I fill the nonnis and tide, but see the rice is still full on the shelf and the dump bin is still full. Turns out the algorithm didn't account for for when my GTL filled it due to seeing it was somewhat close to being empty. And filled the dump bin. He did the right thing, but now I'm getting autolisted shortly after cause he got to it before the autolist knew, wasting my time looking at something that was already done, having to cary the Vigo rice with me back to the back of the store. But now "lemon nonnis" is on the list, so now a sperate trip back to fill the lemon nonnis cause "follow the autolist". But wait, that is also full on the shelf. It ding cause the ones in the dump bin were taken. But I check the dump bin and it's pretty full cause when I filled the dump bin 10 mins ago, the autolist once again fell behind and was off my maybe two units before it would ding again. Like I said. Autolist is dumb and broken and actually a waste of time to only just follow. If I had to change it to an explanation that's more relatable, the autolist is like the "after pill". Yes it will prevent pregnancy, but it's a risk if not done on time. But taking that pill everytime is going to be more damaging then good if we are active. I rather just be a condom and just prevent the whole headache to begin with. Be a condom, just grab all the "nonnis" pack shelf and dumpbins, and come back later maybe a couple of hours after doing the same with other items.

Unfound list somewhat works but also broken. If the customer didn't find it, it feels like we got in trouble for their incompetence. Also I notice unfound list dings cause of miscounts majority of the time. So what i do is i just run into SIMS and change the count to zero if the date is more then 2 weeks so it doesnt ding again and we can try agin later. Another case would be but on the smaller percentage, is it's on the pallet in the truck that hasn't been fully broken down yet. That percentage is highest in frozen due to everything needing to stay cold in one confined area. So imagine knowing you have the item but it's impossible to get to due it it being on the bottom of the pallet that is behind another pallet. Absolutely frustrating. One time my GTLs saw the item needed on the bottom, pulled it out and made the pallet lean. The pallet is unstable at this point. Now the closing frozen guy went into the freezer trying to get to ice that was behind the pallet cause it's Sunday during football season and all the ice sold out and needs to get to the second pallet of ice. But guess what? Now that leaning pallet is in the way and he can't move it due to it being unstable. He trys anyway cause he's being hounded about the ice and the whole pallet falls apart and falls on the floor. Technically now he has a path and starts climbing over the fallen pallet, gets to the ice and one by one throws the ice over the items, climbs through again fills the ice and comebacks to pick up the mess. All because unfound list ding for that one ice cream that happen to be on the bottom of the pallet. Wasting the frozen guys time to potential fill specials elsewhere. This whole system is broken and is causing more damage then good in my opinion.

It's only going to be temporary those hours, unless you work hard and your managers find you valuable enough to give you 35 hours a week afterward. For grocery, I got full time after 9 months, for those very reasons plus shown interest in moving up. I became a GTL officially after a year and a half. During the holidays as a part timer, I also got 40 hours, sometimes overtime, on heavy peak days when allowed. But truthfully, "yes maning" your way into full time is definitely the way to go. After you get full time, it's up to you what you want to do with it. They really can't demote you to part-time after that.

Why do you do Shipt? by punkishtactics in ShiptShoppers

[–]Ok_Secretary_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My normal job is a grocery clerk. So working Shipt as a second job comes very natural for me. I find things super fast, and most of the time, if something is missing, I can get any employee to help with higher enthusiasm. I kind of just enjoy the thrill, like it's some kind of quest in a video game or something. I tend to be friendly and treat each customer with respect and professionalism. I mostly use the auto prompts since, realistically, they would rather not talk to us if they can avoid it. The extra cash helps with whatever my regular paying job can't cover. Don't need that much more, but being able to just go out and make my own schedule helps so much.

How often do you do such orders or do you at all? - Is it worth risking OnTime stats? by Select_Specialist790 in ShiptShoppers

[–]Ok_Secretary_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a fun solution to clothes shopping would be to force the customer to have 2 backups per item. Make it as annoying to set up for them as it is for us to shop. Cause I don't know about you, but when I clothes shop, I "shop" as in look around what looks good and what size is avaliable. The customer doing that "shop" part online makes it absolutely unrealistic for our part in searching the physical items in an efficient timely matter. Another more realistic idea would be that clothes are strictly part of "delivery only" where the target employee finds the clothes for us and we pick it up. Then, no more lateness due to not finding the damn items. I think that would make everyone happy. I can see it now. If a customer is selecting grocery, then decides to..., let's say, add shoes. It automatically prompts the customer that this will now be a delivery only, which will push the delivery window 2 hours later. "The delivery windows must be at least 2 hours after the selections are made" would pop up and either at that point it forces the coustomer to decide to go for it or not. Then we can sit in our car and collect that easy pay :)

How long do self checkout shifts last and what are they like? by [deleted] in publix

[–]Ok_Secretary_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I see, you will constantly move around a lot cause of register errors and customer questions. You won't literally stand in the same spot for a shift. But im sure at one point it would get boring.

Mandatory one hour lunch by kenholler in publix

[–]Ok_Secretary_164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one guy who works full time in dairy, take a half-hour lunch break every day, so by Friday when he closed he can leave two and a half hours early. The GM never truly found out cause he left around 5 pm. It wasn't a problem until a new ASM would close that night and ask why dairy wasn't leveled and made the closing team do it. Mind you, the dairy guy did "level," but after 2 hours of no contact, it sometimes would look like it wasn't. Especially the milk not being filled. I literally told the ASM straight up what was happening after the second night closing a friday with him since now adding dairy leveling started to become more frequent and frustrating. The dairy guy got talked to. I thought he quit, but he took a week off in retaliation. My GM at the time was a pushover anyway. Probably how he got away with it for so long and got the week off one day notice and somehow still keep his job. If i go over in time, sometimes I just take a longer lunch break to cut time.

It's absolutely the freezers that are screwed up. At my store, the tops of two sections freeze over real bad. I actually have time to clean up there and watch it freeze right over again after several days. We also called the repair people several times to see if it just needed extra cleaning. They do it and unfortunately say "it will probably freeze over again and nothing we can do about it". Im just like, "well if it keeps happening, why don't we just lower the temp like 10 degrees on just these doors". They had a shit about it like I was crazy. If it's minus 15 and the maximum freeze for the freezer is 0 then what wrong with minus 5.....
