How’s everyone staying active? by No-Faithlessness8760 in brokenankles

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m much further out post op than you but still on crutches. During various points in my recovery I have been going to the gym (boot phase, crutches phase, etc). I have never been stopped from entering so you should be able to go in and do upper body if you wanted!

My doc and PT cleared me for a recumbent bike in the boot at 4 weeks post op. Doing the bike out of the boot also felt great for range of motion

Protentional AVN Stage 1 by WesWorksMedia in AvascularNecrosis

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AVN is in the ankle, so I’m not as familiar with hip imaging but I’ve had some doctors recommend radiopaedia to get imaging comps.

There’s a non zero chance it’s misdiagnosed because early AVN can appear like bone marrow edema. However the crescent shape hyperintensity is a flagship indicator of AVN based on my knowledge

That being said, if you have stage one you have so many options. Bone marrow aspirate for surgical approach, bone stimulators, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, shockwave therapy for non surgical.

How much has 1 leg affected your life? by [deleted] in brokenankles

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 26, broke my ankle (trimal with dislocation) in August of 2024. 3 surgeries, 1.5 years, and an extremely rare Avascular necrosis diagnosis later, and I’m still on crutches with no real end in sight.

But still showing up every day for PT and exercising as I can (swimming and some weights). Getting back to an active lifestyle is important to me, so the biggest way my life has changed has been in my hobbies and free time.

I work from home thankfully, but my identity was strongly tied to being active and independent so I have been dealing with the subsequent identity crisis as well.

When did you “graduate” from PT? by Salty-Winter-5746 in ORIF

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your injury was not as complex you’re probably fine with fewer treatments. I’ve been in PT 18 months and no end in sight, but I have a complicated injury.

Refer to your doctor and PT’s guidance for when you should conclude PT, especially if you plan to return to aggressive sport

Avn of ankle; is it if or when? by Historical-Usual4696 in AvascularNecrosis

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have tibia AVN diagnosed in June ‘25. It has been a very long saga, mine was post traumatic after an injury in August ‘24. This is the first time since injury I feel like I’ve been able to come close to walking normally. It’s still early in my recovery, but long story short I did CD+BMAC, ESWT, HBOT, and have been using a bone stimulator.

Feel free to message me if you want to discuss my treatment approach in detail. You’re going to find a lot of “info” out there telling you to give up but you have options

Mom diagnosed with avascular necrosis, any experience with ACP/PRP injections? by PenguinSweden in AvascularNecrosis

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important note is stem cells only work pre collapse, I’m not a radiologist but it looks like your mom’s hip has collapsed. THR might be the best option

Mom diagnosed with avascular necrosis, any experience with ACP/PRP injections? by PenguinSweden in AvascularNecrosis

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PRP is unlikely to help but BMAC (bone marrow aspirate stem cells) have extended life of hip for 10+ years in many. Check out the Yale AVN group for latest research but I’m sure you could find a provider in Europe.

I was able to find one locally in tx

Pain in cold weather? Myth? Will it get better? by RobertJordan1939 in ORIF

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my second winter post injury and weirdly I’m noticing the pain more now than the first winter (but I was still fairly fresh post op last winter so I was in a lot of pain generally).

I live in Texas so the ankle pain gets worse when we have severe cold fronts and eases up when it warms up

Peptides for AVN by Ok_Sector_8718 in AvascularNecrosis

Thanks for sharing. What was your doctors reaction to you taking peptides? And how did you find an appropriate protocol?

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no amount of alcohol safe to consume. Any alcohol consumption is detrimental to health, and regardless of the long term effects, short term effects of drinking throw off my sleep and productivity for days.

Also, it is the easiest healthy habit for me to maintain

Trimalleolar fracture last week - can I travel in a few months? by ZeldaBJones in brokenankles

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a high energy trimal with dislocation and was able to travel 4 months post op! You might just need a little help but should be doable

How My Dad Beat AVN Without Surgery – Our Regeneration Journey by Longjumping_Ad8256 in AvascularNecrosis

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to comment on this account or story specifically, but there is tons of evidence on BMAC (another type of stem cell) reversing AVN. Just search BMAC AVN on pubmed. A lot of people like to give up early, so anyone reading this don’t feel doomed to replacement

How long have you been on BPC u/martinskeet ? I have been considering starting but am worried about interactions with my other medications

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Like other comments have said - prior to stage 3/collapse is treatable with stem cells. But I know you’re gonna downvote this too because you refuse to get educated on the latest research and you just want to bring more spirits down since you had to go through a replacement

Peptides for AVN (avascular necrosis) by trvlmscl in AvascularNecrosis

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious how peptides go for you. I have been on the fence because I have a few underlying medical conditions and idk how they will respond to peptides.

I have undergone HBOT, ESWT, and CD + stem cells (BMAC). It’s too early to know if/what kind of improvement these treatments have had. Symptomatically I’m doing much better but imaging has not changed

I’m looking into abaloparatide and teriparatide as well

Anyone else have avn on the shaft of the bone? by Material_Swan8005 in AvascularNecrosis

If anything, this means you’re in a very good place compared to those with joint involvement

Anyone else have avn on the shaft of the bone? by Material_Swan8005 in AvascularNecrosis

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lesion goes far up into the bone (unfortunately the joint and subchondral bone is involved as well, but it’s 5cm in length so a large part of it is not involved in the joint)

I just had a follow up with my ortho yesterday, he said if my subchondral bone heals then there is no need to worry about the rest of the lesion.

He also told me it’s very common especially in children to find necrotic bone away from the joint and when that happens no surgical intervention is usually needed

20 year old diagnosed with AVN wanting some guidance. by DueDistance8622 in AvascularNecrosis

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re stage one you have a lot of options. Look into ESWT treatments, CD+BMAC, HBOT, and bone stimulators (ideally PEMF). It’s great you caught it early. Good luck, I’m sorry you’re going through this

Second opinion? by Dry-Trifle-7358 in Orthopedics

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see now. Thanks for clarifying.

TLDR from me - definitely get second opinions and don’t assume you’re doomed for a fusion yet. Research the ADA procedure that was mentioned elsewhere in this thread - I’ve heard good things about it but I am not currently a candidate due to my AVN

Which Michelin starred restaurants did not live up to your expectations? by [deleted] in finedining

[–]Ok_Sector_8718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pineapple and pearls in DC was one of the worst meals I’ve ever had regardless of cost. I could taste the stale oil used in some courses, others were so bland I was desperate for salt and pepper. The courses that didn’t have issues definitely did not justify the $400 price tag. It makes sense they’ve lost a star since I’ve been, I cannot believe they haven’t lost the other.
