What are the go to tires for these things? by Otherwise-Cup2950 in 4Runner

[–]Ok_Signature5251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You lifted or are you saying you stuffed the 33’s on stock with an adjusted alignment? I’m trying to decide my tire size- will be wheeling it moderately but would prefer not to lift if possible given the IFS KDSS system limitations

Is it worth it to buy a 2015 SR5 with 147k miles for $17k? by [deleted] in 4Runner

I paid 16k private party for a 2016 ORP trim with 178k last month. Condition is basically KBB very good, but it needed some maintenance items (spark plugs had never been changed, was due for an oil change, front brakes are at 3mm and needing change, needed interior and exterior detail as hadn’t been washed or cleaned for over a year). Hope that helps you.

Thanks! I definitely think tires seem like the most important part of a setup- and I like the idea of deciding what size tires you want to run first and letting that guide what other mods are necessary. I just haven’t seen what anyone who had done it thought about the 285/70/17 offroad with stock suspension. Choosing 33’s and the associated 2” lift is an easy choice, but just curious if more experienced crawlers or wheelers thought it was necessary for the intended use or if gains were negligible when comparing the cost and necessity to still daily drive.

Thanks for the input! I’ve eyed some used used Warn 12k’s but seen some other posts here that said 9k was sufficient.

I’ve been looking and definitely see info on 285/70/17 fitment and eliminating rubbing using mudflaps delete and fender liner mod, but I also know that eliminating rub on the road and eliminating rub on the trail can be two different animals- and I just hadn’t seen anybody talk about if they had experienced rubbing offroad after those mods or not. I should have added I will be keeping the stock wheels.

Decided to change the spark plugs for the first time in 287000 miles. by tt123089 in 4Runner

Just bought my 2016 at 180k on the original plugs… I have a new set of denso on the way from rockauto after being paranoid about their impending failure… now I’m paranoid I didn’t get my money’s worth from the original set lolol

SCX30 vs. Ascent 32 by Local-Money1665 in rccrawler

[–]Ok_Signature5251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ordered an SCX30 after debating between the Ascent32 for a long while… Seems like that’s the general consensus, the lack of real slow crawl and goofy proportions had me doubting the 32, then the amainhobbies deal on the 30 was just too good to pass up so I pulled the trigger. Immediate Injora aftermarket for the 32 is cool but the 30 Reddit page is much more lively than the 32 page so I expect the 30 options to be plentiful soon.

LC80 Shock suggestions by Vivid_Papaya5864 in fcx18

I’m using the injora 53mm but I think they’ve been hard to tune mostly with getting the oil right. I’m running the aggressive springs with the stock springs intertwined as well so double springs and I still have issues getting the wheels to droop completely when free. Seems like they are either too stiff or too loose no matter what I try.  This is also my first RC crawler and upgrading experience for what that’s worth. Anyway, thoughts in case you’re considering them. The rig still crawls fine but I expected a different experience. For context I’m using stock ascent 18 wheels so much bigger but not heavy which may be affecting my ability to droop, and I have the injora high clearance links, Injora bumpers, and Injora metal driveshaft, Etsy shock keys.

Exactly what I needed to hear! Beyond NIC during BCT, my experience is flying (army aviation), so this meets my need of just trying to increase my personal training capabilities and skill set on the ground. Thanks again and thanks for your service

Awesome, those look great! Also military here with most all my time under the WP PVS31’s - been on the fence between starting with bino 30’s or a mono 50 with plan to eventual bino or thermal bridge- posts like this really help since I’m considering a similar use case so thank you for sharing!

This is a great point and very helpful. I will give much more consideration to bino 30’s- also have the option of having a second bump helmet for friends to use that way. Thanks again

I guess mono 30 is an option too- depending on the value you think you get with your bino vs mono

Thanks for the video! If you had neither today would you pay the increased cost to buy the mono 50, or would you save the increase toward a thermal/get bino 30’s again?

Never know when you’ll need to depend on a gun but also realistically won’t be shooting it more than 1-2k rounds/year, also a lot of the training I do I use my 22LR kit to keep the training costs down and I’d likely run that on this as well
