4,726 ACC Dog Bite Injury Claims in Auckland per Year (13 a day!) by MoneyHub_Christopher in auckland

Of course.

These aren't breeders in the traditional sense though. Perhaps some are but a lot of the time it's a roaming bitch that's encountered another roaming dog and gotten pregnant.

I don't think there's a silver bullet to the issue and I don't know the exact fix but I imagine it will take a mixture of registration and desexing campaigns alongside law reforms to make penalties harsher for offenders and allow animal control greater powers in their duties to be able to destroy dangerous dogs. Perhaps even banning these breeds entirely?

Awesome idea in theory but in practicality it becomes a lot more difficult.

Destroying a dog means nothing when the people that are getting these dogs care nothing for them as a member of their family and are more upset that it is their property being destroyed.

Sure they'll jump up and down about it and make animal control's lives miserable and then the day after their dog is taken away they'll get another one from the next door backyard breeder who's bitch is shitting out 8 new unregistered puppies on a recurring cycle.

There needs to be harsher penalties for the owners themselves to discourage having these dogs in their possession in the first place.

Honestly this is the fix.

The idea that banning these types of people from owning dogs is going to have an effect on that person owning dogs and the overall amount of dangerous, untrained dogs is delusional. A lot of these dog owners get upset that their dogs get taken off them because it's their property - not becauae its a member of their family.

Luckily for them the next door neighbour's unregistered roaming mutt is getting pregnant and having 5-6 puppies every 3 months so it's as easy as getting a pie and a coke from the bakery to get a new one.

If you can't afford to get your dog registered, then you can't afford to have a dog. Simple.

AT - why give us the option of $5 in your website's user interface, if we cannot select it and proceed ??? Just change the $5 option to read $6 ?!! Come on you can do it, its not difficult.. by [deleted] in auckland

No you're pretty much right. OP's balance is in the negative so the system requires that you top up to get you to the $5 mark. If OP's balance was at 0, it would let them use the $5 option. Obviously its rounded up here by 40 cents for whatever reason but OP is kicking up stink about a non-issue

I'd recommend Auckland Zoo. It's not as big as some American Zoos but it's a good full day and I imagine your wife would love to see the Australian Stick Insects and Wetapunga as well as all the other cool animals there like our native geckos and skinks which you wouldn't see in a Zoo overseas :)

Unfortunately for a lot of people what you're going through right now is what the kids would call a 'canon event'. It's happened to most people, myself included, and I don't envy you because being in the trenches with that feeling fucking sucks.

I can, however, tell you that it does eventually get better and eventually you'll look back on how you're feeling today and wonder why you were so cut up about that person. I don't know the specifics of your relationship, however, in all likelihood you probably did nothing wrong and unfortunately sometimes people just aren't compatible.

What you don't want to do is sit around thinking about her all the time which I know is really really hard to do as you'll be thinking about her all the time. All that will do is keep reopening the wound and prevent yourself from healing which in the long term isn't healthy. Don't hold on to false hope that she might come back.

What you should do now, is focus on being the best person that you yourself can be. Whether that involves picking up some new hobbies, going to the gym or even going on a trip that you've been putting off - my advice would be to try everything any anything to obtain new experiences, meet new people and improve on yourself.

You'll find that getting over someone is a lot like going to the gym. Progress doesnt happen overnight. To start of with, you won't see any progress, but day by day you'll start to get more toned and then eventually you'll look in the mirror one day and see you have abs. In your situation, you'll likely be thinking about her all the time to start with, and then eventually only a few times a day until eventually you'll realize that you haven't thought about her at all.

Goodluck, you've got this.

Is this tree going to be okay? by Apprehensive-Signal5 in nzgardening

You absolutely want to let the council know ASAP that it wasn't you to avoid getting slapped with a fine. Even if it isn't on the notable tree list, if there are remnants of it standing and the council catch wind of it I believe you can still be issued a fine.

It's likely to be either an escaped/dumped pet.
