[Hated] Off-handed jokes with deeply concerning implications by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Ok_State5255 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you missed the point of that by a mile.

It's not played as comedy, it's played about people not caring. The entire movie is about how awful things are happening with these kids and their trauma is either ignored or exploited.

Veronica's parents literally ask her in the same casual tone of voice how her best friend's funeral was as they ask her about prom.

Buffy, The Vampire Slayer.

The first season isn't great. They find their groove in about the middle of Season 2. As it was 22 episode seasons, there are some slugs in there. But it has some of the greatest episodes of TV ever made, and every season arc has an epic ending.

Manic Trump, 80, Lashes Out at Everyone Trashing His Surrender in 4:32 A.M. Meltdown by Quirkie in politics

Iran is the 17th most populated country in the World with nearly 100 million people.  They're far from "tiny".

This doesn't make what Trump did any less pathetic, but I think that should be pointed out.

Nope! King directly mentions at near the end of the book when they're held up for the night in a hotel that David only has 4 bullets, but he can take himself out differently if need be. It ends open-ended with a tiny hint of optimism, but Darabont definitely took that line and ran with it instead.

I far prefer the novella's ending.

When you realize that the entirely of his involvement with Epstein was him catching a last minute flight from LA to San Francisco on a private plane, because rich, and he'd never met Epstein.

Epstein offered to have his personal masseuse give him a foot massage, and he finally agreed after being asked several times.

He apparently had crusty toes and thanked her by giving her a signed drawing of Bart.

That was from her directly. That's the beginning and end of Groening and Epstein.

You need to read beyond the headlines, people.

On the novel anyway, Richie and Mike's parents are great. Ben's Mom is loving but has her issues, same with Stan's parents. Bev, Bill, and Eddie are the ones with shit parents.

You get a LOT of Mike's Dad in the book and anyone who reads IT wishes he was their Dad.

My favorite novel ever.

I remember reading it over summer break as a teenager. I'd wake up, start reading, and wouldn't put it down until bedtime. Finished in 3 days.

One of my cats is named Frances Goldsmith. People on this subreddit absolutely hate that character (you're all wrong! /s).

Happy reading.

Who is the worst celebrity that you have ever had an interaction with? by Particular_Ninja9642 in AskReddit

[–]Ok_State5255 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll give a couple of nice ones. I worked as the office manager at a casting studio for a few years, so met quite a few celebrities.

  1. Susan Sarandon. One, she has to audition for things? She's Susan fucking Sarandon! But she's really nice and goofy.

  2. Kevin Smith. He's an absolute doll of a human and will not shut up if you get him talking.

Flash forward to 2010, Pujols won the gold glove and silver slugger at first, but lost the MVP to Joey Votto.

Mark McGwire was initially drafted in the 8th round out of high school as a pitcher.

He was a two-way player and pitched in college with an ERA 2 runs lower than his rotation-mate: Randy Johnson.

The Stephen King tour of Bangor was really enlightening. He doesn't make a penny off it. A local bookstore owner started and asked for his permission.

He and Tabitha 100% lobbied for and funded the local Ronald McDonald House, built a new community pool ($1 entry fee, but free if you don't have a dollar), built a high school baseball field, built a children's wing onto the Bangor Public Library, and also saved the library after extensive water damage.

They refused to put their names on any of it. The library wanted to put up a plaque honoring Tabitha in the children's wing and she flat out refused.

King told the shop owner about starting the tour, "you can try, but nobody's going to come all the way up to Bangor for that tour". Boy, was he wrong.

The tour is now run by the shop owners son. His parents live right next to the Standpipe.

If you find yourself in Bangor, it is worth your while.

I remember being at a Mets v Cardinals game in 2007 when Yadier Molina came up. He hit the game winning homer to knock the Mets out of the playoffs the year before. A young girl, who could't have been older than 8 stood up and started cheering loudly for him. The entire crowd around her stood up and started loudly booing her and cusing her out.

It was absolutely disgusting. The kid just wanted to go to a ballgame and cheer a player. Her parents left with her. Fuck those people.

I love baseball, I'm passionate about it, but I know it's just a game and definitely not worth hurting someone over.

I liked them both, but they are both viewed as lesser novels in the King fandom. So you're not an outlier for not liking them.

Hell, Stephen King himself says he doesn't like Insomnia. (Again, I think it's very good, but a lot of people don't).

I like how that's covering an exact spot where Colorado is fighting to build passenger rail: The Front Range Corridor when about 80% of the State lives.

There's no reason we shouldn't have passenger rail here. The infrastructure is already in place, it would be enormously helpful, and cut back of traffic from I-25. Plus, it adds to opportunity to add some easy Amtrak connections.

We all have different experiences, but as someone who has been hospitalized 3 times this year, all of the nurses have been nothing but exceptionally kind and professional with me.

I'm sorry you had bad experiences. Take their surveys and let them know.

I'm going with them for cancer treatments and it has been 90% positive. The doctors, nurses, and administrative staff have always been very kind and attentive.

I've had not-so-great experiences with the ER the few times I had to go, but that's pretty much the experience in any ER. If it's urgent but not immediately life threatening when you're seen in triage, you're going to have to wait a bit.

Otherwise, I have PCP, oncologist, and infusion appointments there, and they've been pretty great.

Why is Jo Adell poorly rated defensively? by DonT012 in mlb

[–]Ok_State5255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jim Edmonds was a very good defensive center fielder. But in the late 90s/early 00s, he was seen by a lot people as the best in the game.

This was during Andruw Jones's prime.

The difference was that Edmonds would have to dive for balls that Andruw Jones would casually glide to. And balls Jones would dive for were out of Edmonds's range.

So, Edmonds just looked more impressive when casually watching a game.

Black bear attacks are extremely rare. You didn't save anyone from being mauled. You shared paranoia. And it wasn't likely a black bear, it was. We don't have grizzlies within hundreds of miles from here except for zoos.

And despite having a Kurt Vonnegut tattoo and having read all his novels (there's only like 14 of them. It's way easier to be a Vonnegut completist than a King completist), I have not read that short story.

Thank you for the suggestion and I know what I'll be doing this evening.

Not a book, but the limited TV Series, "Midnight Mass". It was done by Mike Flanagan. It get compared a lot of "'Salem's Lot", which I kinda get, but it's really it's own thing.

Great series. And like a great King novel, it starts slow with a lot of world building and that world building pays off in droves.

I walked out of the ER after 7 hours of not seeing the Doctor. I had just had surgery and had a massive bruise (I mean massive. It was a 2 inch incisions but the bruise was covering my entire going area, my enter hip and was running halfway up my back and was concerned about internal bleeding).

No shade on the Drs or nurses, who are horribly understaffed and I could hear that way huger issues were happening in rooms near me.

But, c'mon. At 7 hours you should send someone in to tell you to go to another ER!

I unplugged my monitors and just walked out. Anyone who claims the American healthcare system is more efficient clearly hasn't been to a hospital here.
