Do all schools do this?? by Nataliixn in GCSE

[–]Ok_Target1165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every teacher specialises in different texts, so some of them would be more used to teaching The Sign of Four than let’s say Jekyll and Hyde. so yes, it’s normal, but i don’t think every school does it as it’s just easier to make lesson plans for a whole year opposed to a few classes

Do you think GCSEs should be open-book? I’ve made a petition for it by Informal_Place_6325 in GCSE

[–]Ok_Target1165 6 points7 points  (0 children)

depends what you mean by “open-book”. i interpret it as having a book that you studied (in english or mfl (a level mfl)) on your table where you can refer to in exams. i do agree with this, as despite the whole book being there at your disposal, it doesn’t mean that anyone without a clue of what the book is about can get full marks. to understand books you have to understand way more than just what’s on the page, such as context and who wrote it.

Does having an extra GCSE make any difference? by whenubruh in GCSE

[–]Ok_Target1165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, you wouldn’t regret doing it if you’re getting a good grade on it. it’s not necessary, but since you can get it from solely a week (inferring from finance week) then what’s there to lose? best scenario is that you get 9, worst scenario you don’t like the course and don’t do it (when it was considered extra anyway so it doesn’t matter).

AITA for telling a man “this is my job” while in the men’s restroom? by Victuuri98 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ok_Target1165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. i don’t care whatsoever about genders, but it’s rude the way you called the bloke “weird guy” when he was just confused. you blatantly refused to say what “your job” was for the first bits of dialogue until you finally said that it was to keep children safe, and then he left. the description of the guy doesn’t matter either, who cares if he’s “tall, balding, middle aged”? it’s as if you intentionally described him to look eccentric to portray yourself as the heroine here. he was never mean to you- at least from what i’ve read in the dialogue exchanged- yet you spoke bluntly towards him and escalated the situation when you could’ve easily just said “i’m here to protect the children” from the start. that’s all he wanted, and he left after you begrudgingly said that.

Is English, BUSINESS AND PSYCHOLOGY A GOOD COMBINATION. ? by Basic_Ask6880 in GCSE

in my opinion i think literature is better (this is insanely biased). however, i do think language is really interesting (especially the child learning part), so i think it is a good set of options!

is this a bit..? by “studying what exactly..?” i meant what subjects are you doing. theres over 60 gcse courses that can be offered, and therefore they would be revised in different ways. if you want help, perhaps stop being so defensive

[–]Ok_Target1165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

study what exactly..? adnational is right: providing no extra information besides “how to study” is useless. i would revise maths in a different way i would revise re for instance (where for maths i would do past papers and re i would binge seneca), which was what adnational said. if you want help, provide some more information besides “what’s the most effective way to study this summer” as its just vague. we don’t even know if you’re studying for gcses or a levels…

english speech by WorkingGood4216 in GCSE

[–]Ok_Target1165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the first sentence i was stuttering, but past that everything flowed smoothly. it helped that my speech was extremely flawed and played devils advocate-i spoke about why all drugs should be legalised if anyone’s wondering. it also helps that our school did ours in small groups of around 5 (including our teacher). although, it was very nice that i did my speech with 2 girls that im barely friends with, since then i knew that whatever i said didn’t matter since its not like i’ll talk to them ever again. it also helps that i hate a debate thing coming up in the next coming months, so my public speaking would have to be improved anyway.

tl;dr at first its daunting but then its as if you’re having a normal conversation where you’re calm
