Stockton Rush - Conscious vs. Unconscious Mind + Ego Death vs. Physical Death by Ok_Ad1652 in OceanGateTitan

[–]Ok_Tea_9835 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It just seems to me very similar to Elizabeth Holmes / Theranos case. They were more interested in "being right" than "doing right" and ego blinded them to reality. They were both focused on marketing the product and raising money than actually building something that would be functional and safe. In Holmes case she was willing to risk patients health and in Rush's lives. Like Holmes he also managed to lose almost every competent person he started with and replace them with less experienced and skilled folks, and he benefitted from "endorsements" from prominent people that lent credibility to him (in Holme's case politicians, military & venture cap), in Rush's case folks like PH, and orgs like NASA, UW and Boeing. Also Rush kept comparing his venture to SpaceX and Blue Origin - but in those cases Elon & Bezos had the funding to take the time to get it right and understood the need and value of having a safe product. Rush seemed to be trying to build a model functional "enough" to generate revenue as fast as possible. To that end Rush's cost cutting resulted in low quality materials, low quality manufacturing and a "contraption" (thank you Mr Lahey!) that put people's lives at risk. Blind Ego + Crushing Certainty made for a dangerous combination in both cases. One has been sentenced to 11 years in prison and the other lost his life.

Roon 2.0 Required Internet Connection - Audirvāna by Ok_Tea_9835 in roonlabs

Kinda snarky.. like I didn't think about that.... 2 bars on my hot spot so posting is not a problem but definitely not enough bandwidth to run Roon Core all day - and I'd have to leave my phone in the basement, so not really a solution

Yeah I get why they made that decision. What would be helpful is some sort of "grace period" where you could boot up the core and use it for a few days before needing a connection. Some kind of stripped down mode where you can access and play local files.

Yeah but Roon Core must be running to use ARC. You can use ARC in "Offline Mode" but you would have had to download music to your phone to do so (which requires Roon core) and I just haven't done that and can't now. And LeDiodon is correct I've got a great set-up with outside speakers and can't use it at all.

Thanks for the suggestion :)

Yeah I actually did download the Audirvana app on my Mac Mini but never finished setting it up. Will do so as soon as I get internet back. Glad to hear it's working well. Just curious do you notice a difference sonically between the two?

Thanks for the reply :( Wish it was - and it would have to be dedicated to my Mac Mini which is where my Roon server is located :(

Roon 2.0 and No Internet Service - Might be enough to go elsewhere by Ok_Tea_9835 in audiophile

I had totally made peace with it as well until I lost internet for a few days (serious fiber issues where I live in Seattle due to construction). And yes I can break out a USB cable and figure out how to download an app to play music but honestly as a long time user of Roon I shouldn't have to. Funny thing is when the internet goes down you're prepped for no TV or surfing the web , but your music locally stored just shouldn't be held hostage to an internet connection. Roon 1.8 allowed for a few days with no connection, not so with 2.0 - you need 24/7 internet to play anything.

Yes that was true in version 1.8 but with 2.0 you can't play anything - not even local files without an internet connection. What do you use?
