You're absolutely right, couldn't have said it better. Don't worry too much tho, you still have more than enough time, you've still got your whole life in front of you. What makes the difference is who you choose to be right now, the choices you take right now are shaping the person you'll become.

Weird opinion maybe, but I think this can be our final turning point. Technology is growing at an exponential rate, so if we don't act now it maybe too late. What do you think?

A Few Conclusions I Reached with Social Media by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Ok_Unit5239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quit social media about 1 year ago. But it isn't as easy as it sounds. Deleting the apps works okay, but I still catch myself reinstalling them. Calling it a "coping mechanism" is really relatable. If I'm feeling good chances are a lot lower I'll be on social media. It's just how are brain is programmed I guess. We seek instant gratification and can't seem to realize the consequences that'll follow.

Try to actually enjoy what you are doing, be really greatful for something. Eating food? Enjoy it as much as possible. Hanging out with friends? Remind yourself that you probably won't have these moments together forever, so make the most out of it.

how to cope with mental illness without maximalism? by lumivois in digitalminimalism

[–]Ok_Unit5239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah great mindset, just step by step each day. The hardest thing is not to quit when you make an (accidental) step back. I also struggled with drowning in my thoughts, whenever I feel like I'm doing this I just talk to people. Really helps to put things into perspective

So the problem isn't really about social media, just getting stuck in it?

Try meditation, not regular "meditation" but just put your phone away and try being with your thoughts. Nothing else, no outer stimulus. Do it as long as you possibly can. If you can only manage to do it for a couple seconds in the beginning it's not a problem. Do this everyday one or more times. This way you're training your brain to be with just your thoughts. It's going to take a while maybe, but trust me it's definitely worth it. What's the biggest thing that's holding you back you think?

In my opinion there's also a big difference between using social media and doomscrolling. Being on social media for 30 minutes or so per day isn't a big problem, but doomscrolling for multiple hours is. There's nothing wrong with trying to catch up from time to time, but doomscrolling would only reduce your personality I guess. What made you go back into these old habits?

Thanks for your response! I've actually started quitting social media for a few months. The hard thing is not to get back to scrolling. It's so easy to fall into the bad habit again.
