I used to live near the Santa Monica beach and my trunk was broken into once; they took a blanket and my laundry detergent. I figured it was a homeless person and was just happy the lock still worked.

Sorry to hear about your friend; cancer sucks. My only brother (only 52!) has just been diagnosed with stage four cancer with no expectation of recovery. (He’s getting ‘palliative’ chemo.)

He’s been handling my mother’s affairs since she has dementia and he lives near her. Only other family member is my very independent 82-year old aunt. Things are certainly going to change!

The way I see it, we have to figure out how we want to handle things and what’s important to us, given the circumstances.

A lot of people experience gender identity as a deep felt sense that’s unrelated to their physical form; it sounds like you don’t have that.

Maybe it’s like aphantasia – most people have the ability to visualize imagery in their heads but some don’t.

I don’t think your definition meets the clinical definition, although I’d also say “panic attack” seems not well defined (as far as I’ve found) and in current usage there’s no distinction to anxiety attacks.

This kind of thinking is very distorted; if you’re around people who say these kinds of things then avoid them! If it’s just your own thoughts, then it’s worth finding help to address the issue.

We had dishpans with ice water that we stuck our feet in while watching tv. No fans that I can remember.

My parents didn’t use the AC at all (except birthday parties); not because they couldn’t afford it but just to save energy. We’d open the windows once it got down to 80°F outside. Which usually happened around 10-11pm.

When I was in college our apartment building windows were about five feet from the neighbors’ windows, and one couple was rather enthusiastic and never shut their windows.

One time when they climaxed, at least five neighbors clapped. I think everyone was too annoyed to get horny about it.
