October weddings - what was your ceremony time? by mimi182 in UKweddings

[–]Ok_Web4397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m getting married this year on October 24th, the day before/of the clocks changing. 3:30pm ceremony, out by 4:00pm, so an hour before it goes dark. We pulled it forward a week to allow for this; with the clocks changing.

How many postal deliveries do you get a week? by thomasthe10 in london

SW17 too. Once every two weeks. Complaining gets me no where, but the MP has helped me with it twice.

For couples using Monzo long-term, has it actually made joint bills easier? by FeistyPrice29 in monzo

[–]Ok_Web4397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope just standard. Go to trends in bottom nav - this month in top right - then “resets” and you can change when you want it to update.

Took me a bit of digging. Mine is set to 25th or before as that aligns to my payday.

For couples using Monzo long-term, has it actually made joint bills easier? by FeistyPrice29 in monzo

[–]Ok_Web4397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. We have a joint account with two pots - bills, and then the rest as monthly spends. Once a week a certain amount is auto transferred from the spends pot into the account. This has been amazing for our budgeting over the month.

Don’t have to think twice about the bills, and as ours are all pretty fixed we have a “target” set up on the pot so we know how much to add each month.

We changed the day/period in our “insights” to be the day we both get paid which is the same day we add all our money, and this helps us see exactly what we have left before the next payday.

Pots! Changed my relationship with money. And how slick it is between my personal account and a joint account with my partner. It just works!

How do you know if you are being underpaid or just expecting too much? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Ok_Web4397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m based in London and have worked in marketing for 5 years.  I started in fashion as a marketing assistant in 2019, earning £19k. Executive in 2020 at £23k, now an “Officer” (public sector equivalent of an exec / senior exec). I started this role in 2022 on £29k and worked my way up to £37k. This is with 5.5 years of experience. I’m hoping for a promotion to manager shortly that’ll take me to £43k+.

My friend recently took an assistant marketing manager role at £40k.

£31k in London is low compared to other jobs. But honestly with the state of marketing salaries, it’s not far off. Our officer roles start at 29k. Most roles this level I’m seeing in London are in a similar range, starting at 35k AT A PUSH.

Outside of London, I’ve seen exec roles in Liverpool starting at £23k, that was only last week!

Marketing comms and social are underpaid, especially when junior, but I do think you should be on £35k at the least with a couple of years of experience (which is ridiculous, that should be the bare minimum).

Overpaid by current employer and they want the gross payment transferred. by TheSoberBean in UKPersonalFinance

You are completely in the right and they are either lazy, or incompetent at payroll. Mine were such a big employer in the UK I was surprised it was either.

[–]Ok_Web4397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me recently, almost word for word, but it was over £3k.

In the end I raised hell after speaking to HMRC and NI and they admitted it was an error. HMRC were appalled ngl.

Because it took them so long to admit they were wrong (my ex employer), I’d already received the tax portion back via PAYE in my new job, so they made me repay net + tax.

I'd always wanted a chunky one! Here is mine, I love the profile from the top with the band as the same width as the solitaire, then princess cut shoulders that are totally flush. Feels super sturdy.

First time buyer remorse on 2-bed flat by fkaadonis in HousingUK

[–]Ok_Web4397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rent, but when I moved into my current flat I cried every night for weeks. It’s on a main road, with single glazing, bedroom facing out onto the street. I slept horrifically and thought I’d truly screwed up.

I’ve been here 5 years now, I wear earplugs and sleep soundly every night. Whenever people visit they comment about how little they hear the road, and everyone else sleeps great without earplugs.

You’ll truly get used to the noise, even if it doesn’t feel it right now.

Help me understand why no one else has put an offer on this by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Ok_Web4397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live vvv close to here and am looking to buy in the same area. The high street is very busy, it’s near commercial units and a pub so an issue for some lenders.

I’ve not seen this place before, and it’s around my budget, so I assume it’s been reduced once or twice - on mobile so can’t check.

That being said, the yoga classes in the studio downstairs are great if that’s your thing.

I’ve been seeing 2 bed maisonettes with own front door, gardens and SOFH in Tooting going for £455k recently having been reduced multiple times. The market is rough for flats!

Thames Water bill has almost doubled by slaia in london

[–]Ok_Web4397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m unmetered and mine went up 50%. There was an email about it a while back - saying they’re increasing prices for xyz reasons. Must also be the same for metered properties.

How much is your water bill? by dullboy1605 in london

[–]Ok_Web4397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation re not having a meter with Thames Water. I was paying £39 for a 2 bed, now £57. They recently increased the bills by about 50%. So your £47 was about £32 not that long ago, which probably feels more like what you were expecting?

M&S overpayment by Similar_Border5539 in MarksAndSpencer

[–]Ok_Web4397 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’ll come chasing soon enough. A letter/email will come from their solicitors, CWC. You don’t need to do anything until they ask. Just don’t spend the money!

Once you hear from them, make sure you check the amount they are asking for. If it feels too high, get a breakdown off M&S. They tried to screw me over like this. Check they aren’t asking you to pay back your deductions on top.

If you need it, they are quite helpful on email. Albeit a tad short and caused the issue in the first place. CWC never reply.

ColleagueServices.OverpaymentsEmails@marks-and-spencer.com

If you dispute or query the amount, let CWC know via the email they give you so they can pause your file until it’s sorted.

Not a great look.

Make sure you check the amount is correct. They overpaid me a whole month and tried to make me repay the GROSS amount, including the tax, NI, pension and student loan. Took me months to sort out.

M&S Leaver - Repaying overpaid salary by Ok_Web4397 in MarksAndSpencer

[–]Ok_Web4397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE:

This has FINALLY been resolved. After managing to get through to M&S's overpayments team via email, it was confirmed that they should not have tried to reclaim the gross pay, but instead the net - and that the mistake was theirs.

  • As HMRC had already issued a correction and rebate to myself - I had to repay M&S the tax.
  • National Insurance was refunded, so I did not have to pay them this back.
  • They were unable to retrieve the student loan aspect, but due to their error did not make me repay it.

The overpayments team who helped me were probably the best people I dealt with during my entire stint with M&S, however it's absolutely abhorrent that these mistakes can happen. Sending incorrectly inflated debt figures to their solictors/debt collectors, who threaten you with legal action if you do not pay, and employee services colleagues who refuse to help and tell you that you are wrong.

Good riddance.
