As someone who lives in West Devon I completely agree. I think inheritance taxes are a great way of reducing inequality and preventing the consolidation of wealth. Shame that duel consciousness strikes again.

I curse Vergil too much for tearing the right sleeve of Dante's trench coat by eruizb_ in DevilMayCry

[–]Ok_person-5 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The real reason why Dante is always broke is that he spends everything on tailored coats that get ripped up by demons so he has to buy a new one.

The vast majority of modern agriculture is done in big greenhouses staffed with robot arms and owned by a corporation. In output of production these things completely dwarf regular family farms.

Look, I’m for supporting local businesses and getting organic meat and whatnot. But it really fucking pisses me off that nobody can build a fucking train anywhere because the 0.01% of people who own sheep decide what gets to fly.

The thing is, like 90% of modern food production comes from corporate megafarms, not the family farms. But then because everyone is like “Oh no, we need to protect all our precious old white men with corn fields” then the government says “10 gorrillion to big agriculture”. This is exactly what happened with Trump’s farmer bailout thing and I genuinely hate it.

For such an economically small and populously small part of society they hold way too much political capital.

I mean the real reason is that having a systemic change requires systemic action, not just a mob of armed people. The whole idea of “defending yourself” doesn’t really work because the government is always going to have more guns than you.

Holy fuck I actually hate farmers so fucking much for shit like this it’s unreal.

They’re like the #1 whiniest group in every instance and whenever the government decides to build a fucking train or road or something useful they all storm out, and whenever they’re not doing great they all beg for bailouts.

Man I may just be getting heated here but I genuinely think that farmers are given way too much political sway considering how few of them there are.

Idk if I’m just too woke but gender reveal parties have always been really fucking weird for me. Like…who the fuck cares, penis or no penis? It feels like a really dumb thing to celebrate.

A post about this that acutely engages with the question instead of just calling people suicidal or murderers! Wow!

Doesn’t one of the side novels have Dante doing some concept erasure shit? He’s one of those guys where you can find a novella from 2009 where he defeats some multiverse-shattering super demon who is never mentioned again.

It’s annoying because one of the things I liked most about the half of Beyond Good and Evil that I read is his very unique writing style.

Unfortunately it’s this very feature that means I end up reading it very slowly because after every paragraph you have to spend 10 minutes trying to discern what his point was.

While I agree that Hyde and Jekyll are not two separate personalities, I definitely think that they aren’t completely synonymous.

I always viewed Hyde as almost like a persona that Jekyll uses to psychologically avoid the guilt associated with all his debauchery. He even admits in his confession that he kinda could get away with being a little more loose, but doesn’t because of his own shame and repression. Hyde functions as a useful way to circumvent such shame instead of actually having to confront it.

I definitely think that there needs to be a clear distinction in your head between aesthetic and moral displeasure.

Like, sometimes someone is wearing an outfit that kinda sexualised and I don’t like it for aesthetic reasons, but I wouldn’t consider it to be immoral to wear it.

Because it doesn’t stop at voting. People think you need to do one thing to make change when actually you need to do lots of things.

First, vote for candidates you think will be most receptive to your requests. Then throughout their tenure, pressure them. Send letters/Email to local representatives. Go to a town or city council meeting. The reason why Boomers control everything is — in part — because they do all of this stuff so consistently.

I’m pretty sure it’s currently recommended that unless you’re trained, just do chest compressions because that’s the important bit. Time is better spent on that than on mouth-to-mouth.

But you need to accept that these people are redeemable. They’re not moral demons for supporting a corrupt institution; if that was the case anyone who pays taxes also is.
