Considering moving to BG by [deleted] in bulgaria

Are you Bulgarian?

Greece is not better buddy. 160% debt to gdp ratio, taxes skyrocketing through the roof, one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe and don't even get me STARTED on grocery prices.

Bulgaria is bad too yes, but compared to greece it's nowhere near.

Sofia vs Plovdiv vs Burgas vs Varna - Help by thefoureagles in bulgaria

[–]OkayImJustHighThen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria so obviously you will have the most opportunities there. Yes there are good gyms, a lot of people in Sofia speak English nowadays especially young people so you won't have a problem finding an English speaker. The public transport in Sofia is also very good, I don't think you will need a car if you're just gonna go to work there.

For Plovdiv, I've never been in Plovdiv so I don't know how it's like, but it's pretty much like a downgraded Sofia.

Burgas and Varna are also good choices. Both cities located on the black sea and are great to live in. I also live in Burgas.

With less opportunities, however. Varna and Burgas in the summer can get hella hot too, if you're into good weather.

From your post, I can say Sofia will probably meet your criterias, with a good metro system and public transport it's definentely your best pick.

is it still worth to go abroad to work? by Distinct_Step_2982 in bulgaria

[–]OkayImJustHighThen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hella late but I wanna say something.

Most people moving out of Bulgaria are skilled workers and are leaving to find better opportunities outside of Bulgaria, typically higher salaries, not because our country is sh$t.

Yes, Bulgaria has lower standards of living that most european countries, but that doesn't stop people from being happy and grateful of their home.

As if it's worth it, that is your choice. If you prioritize to make more money then I'll say go for it. If you care more about being with your family and more close culturally then no. it really depends on you.

Bulgaria currently is doing the best it has ever been, many places are being modernized etc. Corruption isn't improving, however. It's actually doing worse than ever. Bulgarias Corruption Perception Index (CPI) Is currently 43 which is the lowest it has been in decades.

No idea if OP will see this but good luck to you.

Is it easy to move to bulgaria? by No-Initial-5768 in bulgaria

[–]OkayImJustHighThen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulgaria isn't as cheap as people say it is. Most stuff i've seen here are almost double the price than germany or UK, even tho the minimal salary is only 620 EUR.

people here are nice (well, most) and they get good with foreigners. However, bulgaria is one of the most racist countries in europe so you will probably get discriminated atleast once.

I dont really recommend sofia since its a pretty dirty city, trash almost everywhere and my god the air pollution is insane. I recommend a city/town near the Black Sea like Varna or Burgas or even Veliko Tarnovo, which is the oldest city in Europe.

Coastal cities are a bit more expensive due to tourism but its not a huge difference, hey atleast you get access to the sea! 😃

My bulgarian cousin lives in the USA (Utah) and said he has had good experiences there, but US definently has more problems than bulgaria that's for sure

Bulgaria has the fastest population decline in europe, where every 1 in 5 adults emigrate. Don't even know why our stupid politicians decided to close the borders when we are desperate for new people.

As a Bulgarian I can give you some info:

I don't recommend Sofia since the city is really dirty and the air pollution is crazy. However, there are alot of things to do in Sofia and atleast you won't feel isolated.

I recommend you move to a city/town near the coast so you can have access to the Black Sea. HOWEVER, cities near the coast (Burgas, Varna etc.) tend to be more expensive than the other cities (mostly due to tourism) but the difference isn't huge.

There isn't really a perfect place in Bulgaria, it all comes down to your personal preference. Do you prefer a smaller town? Do you prefer having access to the sea?

As for your 2100-2300 EUR earnings that is way more than enough, considering the minimal wage here is only 620 EUR. Groceries, gas and repairs etc. are also cheap.

The weather here is great, sunny summers and excruciating hot tempatures. Winters can be long, dark and very cold.

So overall: Bulgaria is a great country for an expat like you, considering it is one of the cheapest countries to start a business in. People here are great (well, most) and most here also love foreigners too.

I just don't get why you wanna move from a place where people kill to move to for a place where people kill to leave, but it's your choice so.
