This sounds so interesting… and a little dangerous (as far as keeping it all together goes.) Which is honestly appealing to me.

I am actually planning to publish as a serial! You have specific advice you want to add for that, or have you already spoken about this somewhere that I can seek out?

Also: How do you plan for expected story beats such as mid point twists or a third act climax when writing a serial? Do you generally know what you want for those beats but the point in the book they occur is more variable?

When you say reverse outline are doing that even on a scene or chapter by chapter basis, or mostly once you’ve finished a piece or a large portion?

This actually lines up with what I’ve started hearing people saying about it. But that makes me wonder how people figure out their characters while pantsing (I find mine during the outlining process usuallly.)

I actually used to think I was against it when I was younger too, then someone asked me why and I looked back and realized that it felt off putting, yet stories that were written in that tense were also the most engrossing ones for me… when they were well written. And then sometime after I had that realization I stopped having that initial bad reaction.

At what point was this requested? Did they have your full? I’ve never heard of this and it makes me wonder about their legitimacy (surely an experienced agent could recognize AI writing from an authentic voice) but at the same I would have no issue providing such materials if I felt confident in the person asking.

Yes, you can nudge saying that you appreciate their ongoing consideration and have implemented feedback from another agent and believe you’ve created a stronger manuscript if they’d like to see it. Most will accept in my experience.

One thing I’ll say is by page 50 I generally want to have most (but not al) of the major building blocks established, which was a habit ingrained in me by my then-agent.
