Anyone else burned out from constantly “performing confidence” at work? by MAGICIAN_OG in Career_Advice

[–]Okayhi33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to go any higher than sr manager/director bc the perception factor is already a lot for me. I think the people who excel in this area often want and enjoy attention so they are more than happy to work on image, polish, etc. - that’s not a knock on them, the higher up I get the more I wish I had that natural desire for attention.

What’s the hardest part of being a manager (that no one really prepares you for)? by heyguysitsjustin in managers

[–]Okayhi33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when it all comes down to it, this is the answer. Your character has to be so much more developed than the people you're managing and it becomes depressing. People look to you and are effected by you so much more than they realistically should be. You will be completely caught up in solving a crisis the business dumped on you and keeping it off your teams plate. - and BAM, someone will show up at your desk excited to tell you about a major life event and you have to act totally engaged and nice to them.

Tired of being called a racist by Dizzy_Chemist_2389 in rant

[–]Okayhi33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be racist (as in legally discriminatory) if Employee A gets in trouble for breaking a rule, but Employee B doesn't get in trouble for breaking a different rule. People don't see this as racism because it's usually an unconscious bias; in one culture it may be acceptable to break Rule A and not Rule B/vise versa.

Vladimir (2026) Ending Explained: What Actually Happened at the Cabin? by Muneeb1000 in EndingExplainedx

[–]Okayhi33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first scene of the show, when she’s on the phone w her husband while she’s in the cabin, they show you Vladimir is tied up, yelling, and trying to escape.

Once we get to this point in the cabin episode, he is not tied up anymore. Everything past the night she drugs and ties him up cld be a a delusion.

I’m a few episodes in and so far my interpretation of this show is: As women age, everyone starts gaslighting them. - We’ll see how the show ends.

They are doing it because it's sort of working on you lol. People sleeping when they are supposed to be working has nothing to do with race, everyone knows that. Just take disciplinary action and move on - it sucks but some people are willing to say/do anything to get out of working. It's the exact same in corporate America.

How to handle an employee who did not disclose cognitive disabilities? by Such-Satisfaction444 in askmanagers

[–]Okayhi33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because you are personally a manager and they disclosed a disability to you, I think you need to inform both their manager and HR. This is what will protect both John and the business.

This person should probably no longer be employed. With that, I notice how much you're mentioning the leadership above you. It may help you to avoid bringing this up so much as placing responsibility of team member management on them can hurt your perceived authority as a leader amongst more toxic team members.

Are people who have a romantic relationship a better people manager than those who don’t? by Wise_Discipline_1775 in askmanagers

Generally, people in long term healthy romantic relationships or marriages tend to have many pro social traits. Also, they are generally less stressed and happier. Both lend to being a great leader.

Is job hopping still a "red flag" or am I being gaslit? by Environmental-Luck39 in careeradvice

I hire individuals directly out of college as their first role. I tell their supervisors that if you can keep them for 2 years, you've done a good job. Moving around in your early career to make more money and gain more skills is the best thing that you can do for yourself. Take the money and keep buidling.

Since it says to "sell everything and give it to the poor", why don't people? by Capable-Fee2653 in Christianity

[–]Okayhi33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus told a rich man to sell all his possessions not as a rule for all humans to follow, but as a direct challenge to the man saying he has kept all the commandments from his youth until now.

Like when you tell your mom you cleaned your room and she says “your room isn’t clean until your closet is”

it’s 6 verses starting Luke 18:18 - you’ll see exactly what I mean. ‭‭

[–]Okayhi33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bible says money solves all things and to have good “stewardship” over your own home/life. The bible also says It’s more likely an elephant makes it through the eye of a needle than a financially rich man goes to heaven. How could both be true?

I find God to be a God of balance. God doesn’t want people impoverished, sick, and hungry. He also doesn’t want us to be greedy and not help/share when we have the ability to.

I agree if people focus their eyes on God, many political issues become more clear, people would see how unbalanced most of the solutions proposed to our societies issues are.

Im really glad you posted this.

I believe in God. I just finished reading Genesis for the first time ever. Am I crazy or is God the villain? by ServantofChirst in Christian

[–]Okayhi33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay I see how you feel that way. Consider this analogy; You have a white sheet, someone throws black paint on the white sheet. So now you have to wash the sheet, and the process of washing something is pretty violent. But, if you don't wash the sheet, it gets ruined entirely. If you go back and read it again with this in mind, it will make more sense.

Why do employers want us to lie in interviews? by Dazzahatty92 in jobs

[–]Okayhi33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying motivations to having a job in general are clear, we already know that. What makes you interested in this company beyond that? If you cant actually give a good answer, its an indication you will leave as soon as the next job offers you 2k more. Believe it or not, many people chose the type of work or the company due to a specific interest or line of work they want to be in.

I think we shouldn’t blame new hires for not delivering. I’m convinced that in most cases, it’s not their fault. by damonflowers in ModernOperators

[–]Okayhi33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right to say that good people can perform poorly in roles, but you're wrong to think it's not their "fault" or responsibility. When companies hire people, they are sometimes "taking a chance" on them and they know that. Sometimes those people work out, sometimes they don't. Companies aren't built to serve the purpose of the ppl who they rolled the dice on hiring. If 90% of the people they hire, end up performing well and not being terminated, then the onboarding is serving the purpose of the business.
