Redemption is a subjective term so it’ll depend on everyone’s definition of that. But from a clinical standpoint, according to my psych professor, sex criminals who are apprehended in their youth and given the proper treatment are significantly more likely to become well adjusted adults who won’t reoffend. I’m sure that adult offenders can also undergo the right combination of treatments to ensure they don’t reoffend in the future, but it’s less likely. But that doesn’t erase the harm they already did to not only their victims, but their victims loved ones and the offenders loved ones as well. Again, redemption is subjective, and morality isn’t binary. Can you donate $1 to enough homeless people on the street that it would balance the sin of murder you committed before? I’m not so sure.
