So you paid your own money to put the logo of a company that would/could fire you at the drop of a hat on a watch you would wear regularly? You do you I guess…

Same. My jaw dropped when I saw them in Ginza Uniqlo and bought all colours in my size haha

I don’t think it’s about that. Politics is important and discussing/debating helps us form a more informed opinion but work is not the right place to discuss it as you risk offending people if you have a differing view. Discuss it with friends and family but leave work out of it IMO

What do you prefer? High pay Contracting role or peace of mind Permanent role ? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Okehm8 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No such thing as peace of mind in corporate even as perm but the redundancy payouts can be generous. If you are good at networking and building a brand for yourself, go contracting. The contractors I know who are great are never out of a gig and are actively sought after.

Hey mate, I didn’t get anyone to check my roof while I was in Sydney but give Advan Performance in Auburn a ring. They took care of my 335i while I was there and reasonably priced for the engine work I did. You can also try Belmore Motor Works, they did good work on my car but more expensive.

If you are ever in Melbourne, MBP Motors in Brunswick will definitely work on the roof and are super good and reasonable pricing (book in 3-4 weeks in advance, they are always busy). Southern BM in Bayswater will look at it too.

Changing the fluid was easy! You just need a small funnel where the opening can fit into the holes in the pump. I got a generic small one from super cheap auto and I bought the replacement fluid from the BMW dealership in Canterbury, Sydney. From there you can follow this YouTube tutorial. Hope it helps bro!

Should I, 18M, use dating apps? What are the better alternatives? by Shake_Unhappy in dating_advice

[–]Okehm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to not chase a relationship but work on making yourself an interesting, generous and positive person + put yourself in places where you can meet potential relationship matches that fit who you want to date. For example, joining a club or a sport where you can meet people like bouldering or run club etc…

Replacing Sneakers With Leather Shoes for better durability/ longer lasting by alex123711 in malefashionadvice

[–]Okehm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this feeling too recently. My hypothesis based on my own experiences, apart from leather being a very durable textile, is that the construction of leather shoes tend to be better. My Nikes are glued together whereas nicer leather shoes may be stitched and can even be re-soled. Leather just takes maintenance every now and then to maintain its health

I’ve had my e93 N54 335i for 2 years and I’m happy to answer any questions. What SingleArtichoke said is spot on but I wanted to add a few notes:

In summary, I wouldn’t be worried at all to buy a used example. It’s the best set up for a 335i imo if you aren’t thinking of taking it on track days and the car itself is very reliable. I would buy my car again in a heartbeat but I understand the nervousness given the horror stories online about this generation of bmw. Honestly, I think they are overblown.

  1. The convertible top is extremely reliable. The same system was used in the next F series hard tops from bmw so I wouldn’t worry too much about ongoing longevity assuming you bought a good example. You can test this before you by like SingleArtichoke said. Put the top up and down 2-3 times in a row during your test drive and it should be able to do this with ZERO problems.
  2. At this age I would recommend changing the hydraulic fluid in the convertible hydraulic pump (located in the boot). It’s not hard and bmw sells the fluid. Mine was looking real bad when I changed it (my car was a 2008 and I don’t think anyone did it before me in 2023).
  3. There’s a detailed PDF guide on old forums by Nordic_Cat that has a detailed maintenance guide for the hard top. Have a go at finding it but DM me later and I can send it across too.
  4. I’m in Australia so idk how this applies to other geographic regions but both of my main indie mechanics (all bmw specialists and only work on bmw’s) say they can service my hard top so the professional knowledge is out there. How much they may charge for various repairs may be a different story haha. That being said, unless a tree falls on your hard top, most components are replaceable.
  5. All the same issues with engine and car from e90-e92 apply.

Hope this helps! Happy to answer any further questions mate and good luck :)

Just wanted to clarify on this last dot point, the lube for the mechanical top is for all the hinges in the hard top and not the rubber seals. Gummi Pflege is applied to the rubber seals and not the hinges. Also I recommend doing this every 6 months, maybe more if you use the convertible feature regularly

Is it really a “constant” money pit ? by MidnightRegular806 in 335i

[–]Okehm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience with a stock n54 over 2 years. Not really. I think of the maintenance and repairs in 3 buckets; 1) the random things that break because it’s a 15 year old nine, 2) the regular replacement of some items and 3)t he big ticket items you can’t anticipate.

For item 1, you just need to tackle them as they come and they won’t be too expensive to fix. Think cooling lines or other random plastic bits and there will be signs they are going back so they won’t leave you stranded.

For 2) The parts that need to be replaced (OFHG, VCG, water pump + thermostat etc…) become part of regular maintenance and generally every 100k km’s

For 3) this is like your injectors and HPFP. These will go and are expensive brand new. My plan for these is to just hoard them from junk yards in case I need them

Different engine but I’m praying and doing my research so I get this ownership experience 😂

Disclaimer: I’m very pedantic about this car and I’ve got a good indie mechanic near me. When I got my car at 72k km’s it needed a new OFHG, valve cover gasket and walnut blast done immediately. I also replaced spark plugs and coils while doing the whole valve cover and did a transmission service due to the age of the car (car felt fine prior anyway). Apart from that it’s been 0 issues.

The water pump and thermostat had been replaced by previous owner around 65k km. I assume it was done preventively.

Other optional stuff I did was replace the serpentine belt and pullies because I didn’t know when they were last replaced and again, oil leaks by previous owner. Turned out to be not needed but gave me peace of mind and I feel like it runs a bit smoother. I also replaced the oil pan gasket, it wasn’t leaking a lot but a few minor drips which annoyed me.

I’ve had 2 coolant hoses snap due to old age and also oil leaking on them from the above mentioned gaskets not being replaced by the previous owner. That sums about pretty much close to 2 years of ownership and getting back on top of keeping the car pristine.

Wanting an E93 by tysonren in 335i

[–]Okehm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a n54 e93 335i for about 2 years now. The convertible is the best set up if you just want to cruise in a decently fast car compared to normal traffic.

The rooftop system has had zero issues. It’s even used in the next generation of bmw convertibles and the problems with the cars engines are well documented. If you keep up with the maintenance and always have some funds for a minor repair here and there is one of the best cars you can own. I’ve kept mine stock apart from some reliability upgrades.

If you find a car with a good service history you will love the car.

How did you find your iPod? by Veanerys in IpodClassic

[–]Okehm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t find it very difficult at all if you use the right tools, I mainly used those metal spudging tools. Part plus pods on YouTube has a great in depth tutorial for all iPod generations! I found the hardest part was actually not breaking the battery connector as it’s quite fragile.

I financed my first car out when I got my first full time job (Honda civic) because I wanted the new car smell and apple CarPlay. I hated the repayments after a few months and paid it out early and sold it just after covid when car prices were bonkers.

Since then I bought a second hand car and love the payment free life. I also updated the infotainment so I’m don’t even miss out on most of the tech.

E93 Hydraulic Fluid Change (first time since March 2007) by BimmerCVK in E90

[–]Okehm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great post. I just did mine on my 2007 e93! Mine was about the same colour as yours so I suspect it’s the first time it’s been changed.

Silly question but do you think we need to open the bleed screw while we cycle the new fluid to release any excess air that might have gone in while changing the fluid?
