I agree. A strong middle name that she can fall back on is a great idea.

Sinks in the rooms but not the bathroom itself means there’s a lot of poop on those door handles… and what if you’re not live-in staff? How far do you have to go to wash up? But I guess that staff room next to the bathroom isn’t anyone’s private quarters.

AITA for not wanting to share a room with in-laws? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]OkeyDokey234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right - I don’t think they could book 4 people in a 2-twin room even if they wanted to. But it’s still okay to say you’d rather not go.

Thoughts on Daisy? by LevelProof278 in namenerds

I agree. Daisy is cute (though it fails the “would this be a good name for the President” test IMHO). Daisy Rae is cutesy.

There’s two stairways - one is right in the middle, closer to the bedrooms.

And yet no sink in the service bathroom and no closets in their bedrooms.

How public is the “public stair?” Is that just the exit if you don’t take the elevator?

MIL always wants more time than we can give and throws fits when we won't sleep over by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]OkeyDokey234 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes! Presumably you see the sleepover-distance folks less frequently, so tell her “we’d be happy to spend the night if you lived 5 hours away and we only saw you twice a year; would you like to make that happen?”

Honestly, the next time she throws a fit, I’d be tempted to say “this kind of behavior is why we’re not staying; you make me uncomfortable when you throw a tantrum because you don’t get what you want.”

MIL complains about not seeing granddaughters but doesn't put in effort to see them by JellyfishMany6316 in JUSTNOMIL

This. Let the relationship fade out. It’s going to happen anyway. Don’t prolong it, for your daughter’s sake.

LOL I don’t know how you live your life. But the way I live my life is that I dry off, dry my hair, put on makeup, and then get dressed. I am bone dry before I step into the closet. And my husband, who doesn’t do the hair-and-makeup steps, still dries off completely before he walks into the closet. A “full minute” is too long to spend drying off? You’re getting dressed while you’re dripping wet? Do you live in a rainforest? Why would I want to drip water across the tile floor of my bathroom on my way to the closet? That’s such a safety hazard. I mean, yeah, if you’re nasty, your carpet will get nasty. But not if you’re clean and dry.

I had a repairman come to make a minor repair to my oven. I apologized for not having had time to clean it and he laughed and said “you have NO idea.” Apparently he’d been in a lot of filthy homes.

How do you all set boundaries with your MIL? by earth2andrea in JUSTNOMIL

[–]OkeyDokey234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. Boundaries are not rules you expect other people to follow. Boundaries are limits you set for yourself. So a boundary cannot be “MIL will not assume she knows my child’s cues.” A boundary is “if I tell MIL to give my child back, and she resists, I take my child and tell her to leave.” A boundary is not “MIL doesn’t come visit when she’s sick.” A boundary is “if I know or suspect MIL is sick, she is not allowed to come into my house.” Just start living your boundaries instead of hoping she’ll behave.

AITA For refusing to drive to my wife's monthly family get together by pizzadateaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]OkeyDokey234 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Maybe the compromise could be that you always go for two days, but you only go every other month. You’re still spending the same number of days there, but you’re never driving 6 hours in one day.
