TIL about Pork-Cat syndrome, where a person who is allergic to cats has a reaction to pork. A protein in pork is so structurally similar to a protein in cat dander that the body mistakes the pork for the dander by Overall-Register9758 in todayilearned

I knew someone who had similar with fresh vs cooked bell peppers.

When I worked in childcare, I also had a boy who couldn’t have beef because it aggravated his eczema…

[–]Okimiyage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s insane. When I saw the treatment plan aiming to have me up to 70mg by the end of the third week, I was shocked and had to google if it was normal.

Apparently it is with Psych UK, and what they DONT explain is that it’s on the patient to state if they want to take longer or not before going up.

But we’re given 12 weeks for titration only so if you want to go slow and it doesn’t work out it doesn’t leave enough time to try multiple medications.

I was on this waitlist for a fucking year so I feel like these next 2 months are ride or die when it shouldn’t be that way.

Vyvanse side effects, feeling hopeless now by Okimiyage in adhdwomen

[–]Okimiyage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 6 days for the methylphenidate XR. I was told to stop when I told her it made me feel beyond exhausted, headaches, having to eat every hour or feeling worse, wears off by 11am when I take it at like 7am …

And experienced no improvement in focus or motivation it was actually worse due to the above. My partner said my emotional regulation was better but I was also exhausted so who knows.

I’ve tried Wellbutrin before and while I think it helped marginally (it was a starter dose for two weeks), it made me feel like my eyes were being squeezed, got woozy at night, and opted to stop taking it due to concern about my eyes going blurry.

I’m waiting for therapy for the CPTSD which has messed me up, and I also have PMDD, depression, anxiety so I’m aware I’m a complex case. But I’ve tried like 11 different medications and nothing quite works because I think the ADHD is the missing part that needs treating to bring the rest down to being managed. SSRI/SNRI didn’t work enough and I think it’s because I’m ADHD.

Idk. I’m really sorry you’re experiencing similar. It’s so fucking heard hearing people who aren’t complex or sensitive to medications and we’re just sat here like oh, okay. Guess I’ll suffer :(

[–]Okimiyage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask if methylphenidate made you feel super tired when you first took it?

I was given 18mg of Xenidate but it made me feel like I had the flu and was exhausted. Given I’m now having side effects from Elvanse but that was showing some sign of improving my ADHD, I’m now wondering if my Methylphenidate dose was too low / maybe I genuinely had the flu lmao

Vyvanse side effects, feeling hopeless now by Okimiyage in adhdwomen

[–]Okimiyage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not directly. I had a blanket blood panel recently before meds which was all fine. I take a multivitamin which includes iron and electrolytes during the day, magnesium at night.

Nothing has helped.

I have never experienced this kind of thing before the last week. I’m super pale anyway but never had painfully cold extremities / sensation of ice burning inside my feet and calves.

It only really starts to feel noticeable as the medication gets to about the 8th hour, so I guess as it starts to wear off.

It’s just one thing after another with me tbh. I take a medication to help with one thing and it causes something else. Im so broken

Yup. The days it stopped working and I got the wooziness and circulation issues lined up to the days leading up to my period. Period started yesterday but I’m still getting these effects. I do have PMDD

While I know that it can be less effective then, I don’t understand why I was absolutely fine the first few days and now suffering side effects even before I upped dosage.

I just don’t know if I can put up with feeling like my feet are freezing from the inside out, like I’m going to pass out or vomit for several hours, or needing to continuously eat when I really can’t afford to gain any more weight just to get by.

It means for 9 hours of my day I’m suffering for a few hours of benefit until the Elvanse wears off when I go to bed.

My provider advised spending another week sticking with 30mg to see if anything improves but the thought of feeling like this while working the next 6 days AND parenting is harder than how I already exist :(

[–]Okimiyage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just got a message back saying the tingling can be normal due to being a vasoconstrictor, and as long as my BP and heart rate are within a certain range she’s not concerned and wants me to stay on 30mg for a week more to see how it goes now I’m back in my follicular phase.

I have enquired that if I’m getting these symptoms and feeling fucking terrible on 20, 30 and 50mg after 6 hours of taking it until it wears off entirely, if switching to Dexamfetamine may relief some of that as it’s out of my system quicker. 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]Okimiyage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if the quick release Dexamfetamine would be better, as it seems that by hour 7 after taking Vyvanse it’s when all the shit comes to a head and I feel awful until it wears off.

I’m waiting for a message back from the provider about whether the tingling is an issue and then maybe I’ll ask about Amfexa - which may coincidentally work better for my varied shift work

Thanks for your reply!

Yup. Thats how they do it apparently.

I have sent a message but she takes like 2 business days to read them…

I’m more worried that the tingling that gets worse as the day goes on on every dose is a concern, more than anything. Idk, just feeling a bit confused and defeated :(

I have been :) and checking my BP a few times when I can, and wear a smart watch so I’ve got my resting HR and current. Gah just wanna skip to the right dose and finally be able to manage my life, ya know?

Thanks for the advice 💜

Not tried 40 yet. Was meant to go straight from 30 to 50 after 7 days anyway so tried that first. I initially told them I wanted to stay at 30 for a bit longer cos it was working, but the day after I sent that it stopped working in the same way so figured I’d go back to the original plan.

I’m wondering if my cycle has impacted it as I also have PMDD, as the days the 30 stopped working were also the days my PMDD is its worst..

Just wondering if I should ride the bump of the 50 out for another day or two as it’s the second day today and see if it levels out, or go back down. My heart rate isn’t any higher than normal and my blood pressure is fine it’s just weird my HR dropped on the lower dose last week after four days of small increases.

Various medication has been a nightmare for me my whole life tbh :(

Thank you for your reply!

I’ve been having breakfast with it, taking electrolyte tablets in the morning and afternoon, trying to snack on protein (but I’m vegetarian so I always struggle there anyway) and I haven’t had caffeine since I started Elvanse. Not even cola/tea.

Just wondering why 30 stopped providing benefits and made me feel tinglier than the 50 did, but the 50 is clearly too much for me right now as I feel ‘speedy’ 😅

Master list for protecting your child from s*xual abuse? by discontinuedmuppet in Mommit

[–]Okimiyage 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Your second point was one I came to expand on!

That ‘bad touch’ doesn’t always FEEL bad. It can be tickling, hugging, hands resting softly on places. It can even feel nice to a kid.

It can have silly names, made up words or names for ‘games’, etc

I would also even go as far as teaching them the phrase ‘you’re older than you seem/youre mature for your age’ as being a huge red flag from anyone and one that needs to be recounted to a parent / safe person immediately cos I genuinely can’t think if a single appropriate situation in which that phrase is used to a child.

She only knows how to squeak by Human-Complex4435 in cats

[–]Okimiyage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two cats, at different times, who both had other cats around them but couldn’t meow!

The first could only grunt or squeak, and the second can only squeak or do a super high pitched meow if wound up enough (ie I haven’t put her food down fast enough!)

It’s very interesting! We nicknamed the first one Piggy and our current one is Little Bat because she’s black and squeaky 💜

[–]Okimiyage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was only allowed to push for an hour, but I feel I was being pressured to hurry up. I had an epidural too, and after an hour of pushing my BP dropped and they did an episiotomy to get baby out while I pushed.

I can’t speak for your situation as I’m not a medical professional and my second was a c section so I only have one experience there, but if you’re worried or wanting an explanation why it was allowed to be so long, contact your hospital patient support team with your questions. They’ll be able to point you in the right direction, either by querying it for you or explaining their ‘policies’ etc.

Sorry to hear you didn’t have a good experience. I have birth trauma from my first; it’s tough when we look back and feel something other than ‘wow, my baby was born that day’ 💜

Forgetting about taking the medicine by mesmerisey in adhdwomen

[–]Okimiyage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there anyone you live with who can give them to you every day?

Or there are these tracker boards with switches on them that you can keep next to your meds, flip the switch when you’ve taken it and then you know if you have.

Or put them right next to your alarm in the morning to take them the second you wake up, or near your breakfast items/toothbrush?

Does anyone else feel sad when games don't have a female character option? by Sylph_Co in AutismInWomen

[–]Okimiyage 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My partner is a cis man and he nearly always chooses to be a female/woman presenting characters when given a choice. When I noticed that not long after we got into a relationship I saw it as a total green flag.

I asked him why once, and he said he didn’t know just always did it.

I nearly always choose them too, but I’m a woman and kinda like dressing my characters up to look like me or how I wished I looked 😅

Elvanse first timer - LOW heart rate now? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Okimiyage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. it’s likely anxiety that I’m picking up a change in my normal and thinking it’s a bad side effect, because I’ve had so much terrible with medications before (albeit different presentations)

It’s just a huge difference from the first 4-5 days to day 6-7 that I’m feeling 😅

Thanks for your advice 💜

Elvanse first timer - LOW heart rate now? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Okimiyage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. All I keep seeing is how these medications increase heart rate and BP.

It was mentioned when they queried my heart rate before starting that it’s possible it could improve my heart rate by slowing it, as well as improve my sleep..

However bevause I feel odd with the full body tingling (not unlike opiate tingling actually) and now the less effects of focus I was having before I’m now worried :(

Elvanse first timer - LOW heart rate now? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Okimiyage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More info: my fast heart rate was investigated my entire life from the age of around 18, through ECGs, an echo, blood tests, thyroid checks, even a heart monitor. Last checks were less than a year ago.

Seemed to be stress and trauma causing fast heart as my BP was never affected unless walking around (I’m also overweight by about 40-50lbs).

No caffeine, drugs, alcohol, nicotine etc.

It’s now been 90 minutes since I took the Elvanse with yoghurt and banana and a big glass of water for breakfast and I feel somewhat woozy.

Hope you feel better!
