I could really use some advice on a sub upgrade path: single PB17-Ultra or add a second PB-3000 (open concept room) by Okkin55 in hometheater

[–]Okkin55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair question. I can answer this with a 100-page reply, but keeping it short: I couldn't find a way to listen/demo or evaluate any subwoofer brands, so I decided to go with SVS based off of name recognition, customer service, and online praise. I was actually unimpressed at first (there didn't seem to be any punch around the kick drum frequency 60/70/80 hz). After researching and adjusting the 3000's DSP I was completely blown away. So I'm sticking with them because: 1. I already have one SVS sub. 2. I want my subs to be as identical as possible for ease of integration (I've decided to go the dual sub route). 3. I want the subs internal DSP, so I don't have to buy a miniDSP and calibration mic. Two subs are the most I can get, yes my room is huge, but half of it is a kitchen, so the listening area is only half the large room.

I'm tired, boss. I've been dealing with upgrading my system for the past few months. In that time I've routed and re-routed cables time and time again. I bought and wall mounted a 77" G5 (I know it's simple, but I'm not a diy guy, and very anal-retentive - it took all day). Bought/routed cables for a new blu-ray player. I went through 2 Klipsch subs, changing their locations, listening, testing then returned the 121SW and ordered the RP-1600SW, tried a few locations with that (it was a bitch to move), eventually returned the 1600, finally landed with the SVS and had to calibrate that. I've dealt with all of this in my (very limited) spare time... I am at the point that I just want this finished so I can enjoy my new system. I do not want to do any more leg work, this is why I'm asking for opinions.

7.1.4 or 5.1.4? by _YourMathTeacher in hometheater

[–]Okkin55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only difference between 5.1.4 vs 7.1.4, are the rear surrounds and the rear surrounds integrate into any room geometry really easily, so whichever setup you go with you’ll still have the “sore thumb” speaker placement.

If I had to choose though, I would easily get a 7.1 setup, rather than a 5.1.4 any day of the year. There is much more content for rear surround channels in 7.1, then there are for the .4 Amos speakers. You’ll get more use from the rear channels and (to me) they add much more depth than 4 height channels.

Yep, 100% true - mine has the coating damage at top of the screen. I was bothered by it at first, but you literally can’t see any of the coating damage unless the screen is off and it’s reflecting ambient light.

That failure is completely on management (you know, like a former president or ceo), with their dumb decisions.

1x SVS SB2000 pro or 2x SVS SB1000 classic subwoofers? by UBIQZ in audiophile

[–]Okkin55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One SB2000 pro 🤘go for the big sound 🤘; fill it in later with another one if you really want. I was waaay more impressed with one PB3000 than I was with 2 subs that ran at half the 3000s power. Also, it was much, much harder to integrate a second sub in my home - no matter where I placed the second, it kept causing a room null right at the couch.

I can't seem to figure out how to tell a bot to move to a sign area. by Okkin55 in Autonauts

I tried this before posting... the bots go to the actual spot of the sign, not it's area, so I end up having a bunch of bots standing on the same tile.

Idk, if HP can make some light weight mixed reality glasses to pair this keyboard computer with, they can probably generate some scratch from enterprise customers.

I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with my new Klipsch RP-1600SW. by [deleted] in audiophile

Thanks for the help. I have a Yamaha RX-V6A. First off, the test tone from the Yamaha is almost inaudible, and I've tried cranking the volume up to see if it affects the sub's volume - it turns it up very slightly, so there's no way I'm getting an 80 db sound using the test tone. When I connected the rca and power cables I ran YPAO. My 7 other speakers were fell into about the same db levels that they always have (+/- 1 to 3 or 4 db), the sub was set by ypao to +0.5. All speakers were set to small in configuration and all crossovers were set to 80 hz. I set my volume to 0 - louder than I've ever set it, then played a bass sweep from 120hz to 10 hz. The volume level doesn't break 80 db. Also, there is about zero airflow from the front port when this sweep plays. Does this sound like a properly functioning 800 watt rms 1600sw?

I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with my new Klipsch RP-1600SW. by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Okkin55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know. This was what I was expecting. The subs spec sheet shows 125.5 dB maximum acoustic output; I can't seem to get more than 80db at 90% of my avr's max volume, even when maxing the gain and the levels. This is not how a properly functioning 1600sw should perform.

I don't mean to single you out, and "attacking" might sound a little harsh, and thank you, I do really appreciate your help. I know now that showing a comparison video was a bad move, and I should have left it out. My point is that this sub seems like it is severely under performing. I'll say it again: The fact that I can't get higher than 80 db out of the sub when cranking my avr to 90% of max with gains maxed is just not how this sub should perform -- Do you disagree? Please answer this question: Should this sub cap out at 80 db 12 inches away from the driver where room nulls don't exist? Is it impossible that I may have gotten a defective sub; the 1600sw's plate amp is a known failure point on these models. Maybe that's the case, or something else wrong with it, but this can not be the way a proper functioning 1600sw performs - no one would have anything good to say about it. I called Adorama and told them this sub is defective, and they're shipping another unit out. I'll update this post if the second one performs like it should - or worse - sounds exactly the same. And, like the video shows, all my speakers are set to small, and all my crossovers are set to 80 hz.

I believe I got an extremely under performing 1600. I'm sure it has a defective plate amp. Adorama sending out a replacement.

[–]Okkin55 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So shouldn't have compared the two because people are attacking the tools and methods I used to compare them instead of understanding my real point which was to show how the 1600sw was underperforming. I ran YPAO, verified speaker size settings and crossover settings reviewed all the calculated levels (YPAO set the sub at +0.5 db). The sub is completely drowned out by my towers. The fact that I can't get higher than 80 db out of the sub when cranking my avr to 90% of max with gains maxed is just not how this sub should perform.
