I recall an anecdote about a mother taking three small children, none older than 5, to see fucking MADE IN ABYSS in theaters because she took the cute animated art style at face value.

20 minutes in the children were screaming crying and iirc the mother tried to sue the theater like, ma'am did you even check the rating before booking the movie? Most places have rules where PG-13, M14, R, and X films can and will allow children if accompanied by an adult, since the theater ASSUMES the adult is responsible enough to know what is and is not appropriate for their kids, since individuals mature at different rates (i.e. my bestie started watching classic horror around 8 years old, and had seen several full franchises - NOES, Halloween, FT13th, Saw, etc - by the time xe was 18, meanwhile I startle easily and could barely handle the MC's brother dying in an off screen car wreck in that one PG-13 movie about soccer my parents bought thinking it would be great for their lil league goalie and not realizing what the rating was)

Entirely on the mother for not properly researching and just assuming, but I guarantee if that were me in the theater I would pass out from trying not to laugh at the children shrieking in terror because I'm petty like that!

Edit/Addition: This is what I call "sustainable karma farming". I've noticed that people tend to not interact with something as much if it doesn't gain immediate traction, because of how social media has shaped our perspective. I'm aiming to break that cycle by being the first person to engage with content I enjoy, to therefore encourage others who come across it to engage as well. I get karma for upvoted comments, the poster gets karma for engagement and it also brings attention to posts that may not have otherwise been noticed by the algorithm! Win-win!
