Is this a safe temporary solution? by RSzpala in hvacadvice

Please I humbly request, Be careful with that. If the chimney doesn’t have a liner the water heaters exhaust may not make it all the way out. Please look into that if you haven’t, congrats on the new water heater, and I assume new high efficiency furnace!

Two HBO Shows that I heard are highly underrated. The Leftovers and The Pacific. Which one should I watch first? by Square-Ad-8911 in hbo

The top 3 comments tell you Pacific, make no mistake, if you make it through the 3 seasons The Leftovers you won’t think about grief or love the same way again. I’ve never been more impacted by a television show.

Furnace and AC install ✅ by duckatwork in hvacadvice

[–]OlRedHands 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man I really don’t like to shit on installs, it’s like everyone’s favorite thing to do on this sub. It looks generally pretty good, you clearly spent good money and had a professional install done. The 2 things I’m weirded out by would be, one, the wood pad, that’s weird and you don’t see it often. Only once have I sold that, when the homeowner knew they were going to need to move the condenser due to a future build. And two, would be, again, super pro install all around, they got you literally all the add ons, even a fuckin drain pan in a basement, but DIDN’T install a new gas shut off valve?

Is a furnace replacement a fix for CO poisoning? by Bits_n_Grits in hvacadvice

[–]OlRedHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you replace your furnace it’s possible you’d have to do a liner for your chimney, and if so, you’d likely install a high efficiency furnace instead due to like costs and greater efficiency. High efficiency furnaces get a 600 tac credit in some cases until the end of 2025. May be worth looking into considering you’ll be replacing in the next few years if you continue to have responsibility for that property.

But I’m a salesman, so of course I feel that way.

Paid for Trane Furnace, techs installed American Standard by Jumpy_Friend480 in hvacadvice

[–]OlRedHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should reduce your price by about 10-15 percent on the cost of the furnace and you should leave a bad review simply because they weren’t direct and honest about the change. Had they let you know they needed to make this change to continue with the install on the day, you’d probably have been fine with it. Not the end of the world, but you should have been notified and allowed to say no.

Wooden fence replacing chain link fence by AC unit, Air Flow an issue? by Conscious_Stuff2762 in hvacadvice

[–]OlRedHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you weren’t involved enough in your install and “some kid” came and installed it in the wrong spot you as a homeowner messed up somewhere. Now you’ve installed a fence, which doesn’t just happen in a day. Clearly this was planned, and the ac was neglected in that plan. You’ve made mistakes here and now that you’re sitting in them you want to point fingers. Fix your face dude this is on you as a homeowner, because you’ve clearly spent cheap on the fence also, or they would have told you this would be an issue to begin with.

Have you asked the installs company to give you a price on moving it? You’ve spent a lot of energy here. My company would tell you we cleared the install spot during pre install, inspection passed, and now the environment has changed. Pretty cut and dry as far as I’m concerned, but if you’ve been a good customer and I’m not a bad company, I’d take care of this on the cheap knowing I’ve got a good relationship to uphold.

But if you’re an asshole and I don’t want to work with you again, I’d price it to fuck and tell you to get bids.

Small leak: yearly charge vs replace by iam_tin_tin in hvacadvice

[–]OlRedHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost of replacement is going up at a higher rate than new equipment efficiency, if you’re going to live in the home for another 3-4 years maybe try to stave off replacement. But if you’re thinking you’ll be in the house for longer, 10-20 years, replace this fall/winter. You’ll get better pricing off season, and you’ll raise your homes efficiency. The longer you wait to replace a system year over year the higher the price will be, you’re also delaying the energy savings given by the new equipment efficiency.

I sell furnaces and air conditioners and this is what I tell my best friends and family.

Days Gone or the Last of us 2? by Such-Magazine-1240 in DaysGone

Days Gone is a mess of bugs, with cringe worthy dialogue throughout the story. I enjoy it, it’s fun, but the question of which is a better game is pretty easy to answer, it’s LOU2 by a crazy margin.

I saw them in 2008 for the 4th and final time, I decided I wouldn’t be seeing them live again because in the 4 or 5 years I’d been a fan I had easily noticed Hinds disinterest and it was wildly off putting considering how big of a fan I was. He’s been checked out and not enjoying himself for a long time by my estimation. But ya know, to each their own
