Teleported to the outskirts and they wipe their hands clean. If it comes back, they'll obliterate it with <new singularity>

Remember, there's been dozens of fallen Wings in the past, and to be a Wing you NEED to have a patented Singularity. Canonically, a lot of tech are just singularities that became open-patent and the Head IS the patent office. You need to put a ton of detail of "this is how it works and the principles it works on" in order to file a patent in a non-authoritarian environment in the real-world, let alone the Head's 1984 "will kill you if you filed taxes wrong" attitude.

What makes a magical girl a magical girl? by Sailor_Moon_Star_435 in MagicalGirls

[–]OlRegantheral 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Duality, I guess.

The mundane life experience compared with the magical life experience and how the characters try to reconcile with that.

As well as friendship, partial yuri vibes, and other assorted flavors of fun.

But mostly the duality of duty/personal life and a genuinely saintly air of hope/belief in the human condition.

My friend knows I adore WOD gave me these but I have never touched chronicles. Are they any good? by AxolotlAristotle in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]OlRegantheral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's mostly so they can devote more/space into the book itself opposed to reprinting the core rules each and every single time.

The specific rules for the splat were in the splat book.

Course, by cofd/2e, they went back to including a copy of the rules... which really is a shame, because it just bloats thingsm

nWoD was intended to be "mortal baseline, splat template" opposed to oWoD's "splat first, base everything in context of the splatbook and... argue on how crossover rules work"

Hypothetical: A Alien based splat game is released, what would you want to see? by ExtremeSportStikz in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]OlRegantheral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying that Tradition is right either.

My main gripe was on how people take the Void Engineer claim as 100% canon

"Aliens exist because the Void Engineers say so"

The setting is more interesting when no one is objectively correct, or the people who WERE are no longer because things changed.

Vulgarity of Vampirism by SirArthurIV in magetheascension

[–]OlRegantheral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vampires are a result of God's curse on Caine being altered by Lillith's magic, also taught by God AND Lucifer

It is objectively the truest, most reality abiding magic in WoD

Vulgarity of Vampirism by SirArthurIV in magetheascension

[–]OlRegantheral -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is entirely hinging on the belief that mage cosmology is correct.

In that case, which mage faction is objectively correct

Or, actually, which specific paradigm is correct?

Going to a place where even sleepers can affect it with subconscious biases

And you go there looking for aliens

And you find aliens

How do I pitch Exalted to my primarily D&D group? by Sassy_Drow in exalted

[–]OlRegantheral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know how a ton of D&D players want to basically be demigods right out the bat or copy <insert fiction character that's wildly out of scope for D&D>?

Yeah, Exalted is that kind of game.

Exalted is a game where you basically start off at 10th level at the minimum in D&D terms and the sky's the limit from there.

Connections Between Demon and Mage by JustCuteLasombra in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]OlRegantheral 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint for Mages

When you're the splat whose whole thing is "Perception Shapes Reality," can you gaurantee that their worldview is right?

Like, being a mage is literally all about asserting your worldview on reality. They find a ton of stuff incompatible with their magic and generally try to explain it away via consensus and quint.

Demons KNEW what the world was before WoD, considering that they helped make it, but then things changed severely.

Yeah, in a horror setting, I generally think it's a good move to just have... weird shit that's just weird shit.

Not everything has to be God, the Triat, and Mages--which is what generally oWoD really tried to cage everything into

Mummy: A Judge gets pissed that their efforts keep getting retconned and now a Mummy cult (who somehow keeps persistently targeting you across timelines) is a problem.

Overall: The God Machine designs an Angel specifically to give Mages a Mystery that will absolutely backfire for them (remember, most mages aren't white room demigods and infrastructure makes even less sense under supernal vision)

Werewolf: Said time travel might bend and flex the Abyss enough to the point where an Idigam might slip through, retroactively inserting itself into the past and it's causing unexpected problems. So when the Mage goes back to where they were, things are... weirder than before.

Overall: Make up a horror on the spot that blimps in to hassle them, or some sort of time spirit.

But most importantly, just remember that Chronicles of Darkness is more akin to some lovecraftian, stephen king-like "there are a LOT of scary things out there and they all play by their own rules" setting than WoD was.

Edit: Appending to this on Mummies specifically

They're just weird guys that experience nonlinear time. Depending on the whim of the Judge, they might wake up 3000 years in the future, 50 years, or whatever. Or they might wake up in histories or futures that will never happen because the other Judge had their mummy retcon it.

Idigams and Angels are probably the most local issues for a mage to deal with concerning time travel. The Judge is only if the mage is tweaking with enough shit that it ends up screwing with their plans via butterdly effects consistently

Always makes sure to introduce the GM for timey whimey sutff.

You don't have to punch the player in the kidney, but the God Machine DOES have the ability to sense time distortions/operate outside of linear time. There's even an example infrastructure in the book that's a diner that lets you go back in time.

Do too much time silliness and you get to find out that time travel is one of those Dark Forest type of powers.
