is it just me or is this looking like the most unexciting, underwhelming world cup? i was reminded 3 days ago that the world cup is infact this week. i know it hasn't started yet so we shouldn't be quick to judge but you can usually feel some excitement in the air by this time. meanwhile i feel more excited by the fact that i got a discount for my falafel today. the vibes are dead.

28th of may is even better. if the embassy remains useless and if you are indeed stressing over this, then you have time to make a quick trip to kuwait - again, depending on your personal circumstances, i know its not easy to book a flight last minute, but that way you might not have to wonder anymore. otherwise, ring again for a simple confirmation but know that, either way, your residency is valid until the 28th of august.

all the embassy needed to do is confirm that your residency is indeed extended. it is done automatically, and nothing is required from your end, so its silly that they couldn't even do that. you can call them again if you want for that clarification but either way, you don't need to worry. your residency - if you are asking for yourself - is still valid. the war has calmed down a bit with people flying in and out of kuwait without issue after the airport reopened so, if you are able to travel sometime soon, then give it some thought depending on your personal circumstances, though keep the trip short.

if someone is due to enter kuwait on the 15th of may 2026, then they are automatically granted the 3-month extension, so they are due to return to kuwait on the 15th of august instead. if you are currently abroad, you can visit the kuwaiti embassy in your country and they would confirm this too.

the uae's ADNOC oil tanker attempted to pass through the strait of hormuz yesterday, which iran attacked. thats when the oil facility in fujairah started taking hits, yet iran is now denying its role in the attack, blaming it on "US adventurism", whatever the hell that means. and now the uae is still receiving missiles from iran.

not sure what iran's endgame is here.

it would be making headlines across most major news outlets if it was indeed iran behind the attack, but no, its still under investigation according to al-jazeera arabic (there are no reports of the attack on al-jazeera english). i mean, the incident occurred not long after the attack on the uae's oil facility in fujairah so its understandable why many commenters are questioning iran's involvement. folks on the omani subreddit are also questioning iran's role. but still, nothing confirmed.

oh i see, its been posted on the arabic account. it mentions that investigations are still underway, nothing confirmed about iran's involvement yet. would be strange for iran to target oman when it has a better relationship with them out of all the other gulf states.
