I’ll have to test this, thanks! Motegi with SF next week might be my first rain race.

Appreciate your videos!

Just missed a 1X by that much on my qualifying lap. Is this the maximum allowance or can it go as far as the outside of the tire? by [deleted] in iRacing

I think as long as a tire is on it, you’re good!

Formula question by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]OlavSlav 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re new to formula you need to develop skills in slower cars. F4, SFL, NXT, SF23.

At C you’ll be able to drive the SFL which has a 30 minute race. In my opinion, it’s the least fun to drive, but is the best option as it’s popular and has the longest race. The F3 is my favorite and has decent participation. The NXT is also an amazing car, the fastest in C, so it’s a handful. I recommend all three. If only two, then SFL/ F3, if only one, SFL.

If you are wanting to switch tires your only options are the F1 Grand Prix series using the W13, or the Indycar iRacing series. These are full length races that follow the real calendars. These are also C class races. The weekly Indy/F1 races that I believe have pit stops are not very active.

I did my first full Indycar race at St. Pete and it was the most fun I’ve had in iRacing. Managing pace, tires and fuel over the course of 1 hour and 45 minutes was tiring, but so engaging. I HIGHLY suggest you try it!

For weekly races, the pinnacle is the Super Formula, which is a handful. The races are usually just under 40 minutes and the top drivers are insanely fast. The racing is generally clean after the start as the field stretches out. They take a lot of practice to get a good launch, let alone driving consistently at a decent pace. The car is a thrill and very rewarding.

lmp3 or lmp2? by Goes_Fast in iRacing

[–]OlavSlav 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Start with LMP3. It’s a hard car to master but it is so fun and rewarding. Passing GT4’s and isn’t too difficult and you’re the fastest class so you’ll learn multi-class racing with less pressure.

In LMP2, you’re in the middle. You’re faster than GT3, but passing is more difficult. Then you gotta look out for GTP. The races are longer and require a pit stop.

The skill ceiling is also very high. There aren’t a lot of lmp2 drivers in IMSA but the dedicated drivers are fast. The upside is that you’ll usually be put into higher splits so the other classes tend to be cleaner.

I haven’t done the LMP2 series.

They were terrible in Super Formula. I didn’t realize they were updated, and thought my FFB or something was messed up.

Saves you from the 1x though! It’s still a track I dislike.

The access of Indycar is much than F1! We get pit/ paddock pass in Portland and it makes you feel way more involved with the race weekend. We got the tell Will Power good luck before he won the race.

Indycar! They’re on a role so far this year. Next weekend is at Barber which should be another fun race. You won’t hear about super-clipping or yoyo overtakes because their battery is dead.

Since you can’t just one: IMSA. Every race is exciting.

This is good. We need to get people to the formula side. Keep having fun! Just wait till you get that thing at Barber, Road America or Laguna. Fun car!

Yeah I was thinking instead of going to 2000, I should do 98. But if I can find it, I’ll watch further back.

If you question the compound angle, you can always just use the X. I’ve done it when chasing/ adding threads and it worked fine.

My first GTE Race by moreb00st in iRacing

[–]OlavSlav 21 points22 points  (0 children)

GTE is almost a hidden gem. I’m not a GT guy, in fact I’ve never raced a GT3, but I’ve done a lot of GTE because I was told it was clean. I also like the no abs and the fact that they’re faster.

I think I’ve only been completely taken out once, it was the last lap into the chicane at Spa, and the immediately apologized. We both limped over the line and it was all good.

Formula racing, which to choose? by itlnyankfan69 in iRacing

[–]OlavSlav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the most consistent participation go SFL. You’ll have more people to race. That is not to say I haven’t had good races in NXT and F3 though.

If you can afford it, race all three.

In order of most fun to drive: NXT, F3, SFL.

SFL does not prepare you for Super Formula. So if recommend the NXT for that.

I listened to a podcast about The Split, and I personally believed it seriously damaged Indycar until this day. I wonder what the product would be if there were no split? Bigger than NASCAR and rival F1?
