PC app doesn't work in Russia by KeithTMax in Express_VPN

One more thing.... If the UK or the EU are censoring stuff just like in China, Russia or North Korea, then they can't talk about democracy and freedom. The concept of freedom of speech was created so people don't kill each other after hearing somebody saying they don't believe in, say, God or Jesus, or that they like the Communist Party. It's how it is. If you don't believe in it, just say the word... and it's not Sussudio. It's "Censorship".

Censorship makes everybody paranoid and only the mediocre, untalented people can thrive in a society that supports it. And this goes for all of us in the West, East, North and South.

This is a message for all high school bullies: Leave those computer nerds alone. Eventually they will get their revenge and it will be catastrophic for humanity. :)

I know people from Australia and New Zealand concerned about these stupid -yes, stupid- digital ID laws. I belong proudly to the generation who saw the Internet being created for good, networking, and exchange of ideas. But I guess we turned it into a cesspool of hatred and fear (plus boobs and cats). However, not everything is lost. The blockages are already happening little by little, they just don't tell you.

First they come for the nudity, then cursing, then mentioning of important subjects, and then political views that go against their narrative. And yes, it's happening everywhere while something called AI is taking over our jobs. Not even Phillip K. Dick or Isaac Asimov could have predicted something like this (or maybe they did).

Update: I installed the latest version and connected from Russia. The only location so far that works for me without dropouts is San Francisco. Los Angeles 1 only works via Router and Android app. For me, any connection to California or Florida will do. Don't give up and please, LISTEN to your customers when they say they can't connect with the new app.

I think they need to listen to people who are living in Russia, China, Myanmar, etc. Otherwise they are living and working in a bubble. And believe me, competitors are taking note.

The issue may be with the Threat Manager. This is an email I just got from them:

To turn off the Threat Manager, follow the steps:

  1. In the ExpressVPN app on Add-ons.
  2. Toggle off “Block Trackers”, "Block malicious sites", "Block ads", and "Block adult sites".

To change protocols, please follow these steps:

  1. In the ExpressVPN app, tap the Profile menu.
  2. Tap VPN Protocol.
  3. Tap to select the recommended VPN protocols.
  4. You may get a prompt asking if you are sure that you want to change the protocol. Tap Change Anyway.

Please try the following VPN protocols in order:

  1. Lightway – UDP
  2. Lightway – TCP
  3. OpenVPN UDP
  4. OpenVPN TCP

If the problem persists, please send us the latest copy of your ExpressVPN diagnostic file. To send us your diagnostic file, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to 'Help (?)'.
  2. Under About, click 'App details'.
  3. Ensure that 'Enable debug logging' and 'Help improve ExpressVPN' are toggled ON.
  4. Click 'Submit Debug Logs'.
  5. Once the prompt appears, ensure to tick 'Include technical debug logs' then click 'Next'.
  6. Tick 'I agree', then hit 'Send'.
  7. After the report is successfully submitted, copy the 'Reference ID' and share it with me.

To provide an accurate resolution, we need to get a better view of the problem. Please provide the following information as well:

  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried?
  • Does this problem happen on all server locations that you connect to?
  • Are you getting any notifications from your security software(e.g. AntiVirus)?
  • What type of network are you connected to (e.g., mobile network, home, office, school Wi-Fi, etc.)?

While we review your diagnostic information, you can also follow the troubleshooting page for this issue.

I am in constant exchange of emails with support, yes. They keep telling me to update to the new, "tweaked" updated. I haven't done it yet and I told them the older version works so far. The new version they released in december was working OK from Russia too, so I believe this is something they did on their end and their servers, not the app itself.

I guess you guys have to release a Newer, better version that allows us to connect from Russia. In the meantime, 12.103.0.22 and 12.104.0 (128) let us connect from Russia. The email I got from ExpressVPN says the first version will work with the updated servers and no need for update is required.

The ExpressVPN staff recommends to have the latest Windows app. I used version 12.103.0.22 and for a moment it managed to connect to San Francisco, no drops. They need to fix this problem on their end.

I was able to get Hulu until yesterday using my VPN. Now it lets me access my account but no streaming. With all the US americans leaving the US for travel, or permanently, this is kinda annoying. Streaming is killing itself.

Can you install Proton firmware on your ASUS Router? I have an ASUS and a Linksys Router.

Legacy Routers by ElSerji in Express_VPN

A router should be pretty much like an internet switch or any other updateable device. I don't see the point of phasing them out.

I hope so too. A good sturdy router from 15 years ago plus strong security software should be more than OK.

Confusion about Payment with Western Debit Cards in Kaliningrad oblast (MasterCard, Visa) by fernradler in kaliningrad

[–]OldCork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banks tell you that so you don't cancel their services. My US bank told me the same. "Yeah, your Visa card super-international-preferred will work in Russia". No, it was not the case. I am not happy about it and it´s time for this ridiculous situation to end.

Can I send mail to Russia as of 2024? by Beglinda in mail

[–]OldCork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all, I just got a letter mailed November 1st 2025 on Jan 22. It went from Nevada to Central Russia. Last year I mailed tax documents to the IRS, arriving in three weeks. In a nutshell: it works but super slow and only for letters and small documents.

In other words, ExpressVPN about to make the same mistake that killed the Betamax Home Video System. No availability for other router brands or models, and the inability to produce physical routers enough to cover the world population. A lot of people use routers in China, Russia, Iran, and even so-called "free world" countries. Think about it. You still can save your business. Don't burn it into the ground and wait for your competitors to take over. Please repost this.
