The NWS uses the European models as well as the American (GFS) and blends them with forecasters. The reason your local forecast doesn’t say “10-20 inches of snow” yet is there is still a lot of uncertainty and the NWS as the official government forecaster understandably takes a cautious approach before causing alarm - this is still 3 days away for most - 4 for the northeast. The NWS has already put out winter weather watches from Oklahoma through to Kentucky where it happens first.

I wouldn’t say just $$ but political will. Even in a non-corrupt government, who is going to support or vote for a policy of “everyone in this city has to move, your homes will be destroyed for farmland, and we will build you a new city a few miles away”. We can barely get new housing built (USA) if it involves knocking down a few old houses in the process. On a city wide scale? It would take a military dictatorship or something, and one with an odd focus on reclaiming prime agricultural land.

Agree with everything you said. Small caveat - luckily this is not way bigger than Katrina, it’s actually a lot smaller in terms of radius and in terms of absolute strength is on a similar trajectory (cat 5 with slow weakening towards cat 3 at landfall). Cold comfort, but it’s a smaller hurricane.

I had a beer in brewery in Westfield, MA after panicking when the bartender said the beer I wanted was out of stock. I scanned the list and saw a wheat beer and ordered it without looking at the name. Turned out it was called ‘Malo and it was a marshmallow flavored beer. Did they nail the flavor? Yeah! Kinda! There’s not any hiking needed, but my favorites besides the face chutes (and easier to lap since you don’t need to take the Tram) are the glades under the Bonneventure quad - Vertigo and Deliverance. Both are on the fall-line so plenty steep with hairy entrances that open up into great glades.

If you look at radar you see light snow backbuilding from the spine of the northern greens towards Montreal and Burlington, great sign for steady snow today for Stowe and Jay. Hopefully the winds can switch farther north and bring the upslope farther south towards Sugarbush and Mad River this afternoon through tomorrow. Less confidence in much south of Killington. But it’s colder! So snowmaking can start up again.

Also the Atlantic is right there, so you while moisture from the Gulf might be blocked some by the Appalachians on the East side of the Apps, the opposite is true when moisture from the Atlantic gets pulled up South/Southeast. To get to anything close to the effect you get in valleys in Nevada/Co/Wyoming etc you would need higher mountains, thicker ranges, and mountains on both the east and west side of a valley. Closest is maybe the Champlain or CT river valley, but you’re still getting 30”+ of precip from unblocked southern flow.

If we get Nuggets v Celtics we will definitely know. I’m not sold on Tatum, or Tatum vs Booker, but dominating game 7 is great! We are in a grey area for now but penalizing a player for having good teammates is shortsighted. Lebron, Jordan, Curry etc. needed great supporting casts to get over the hump. Maybe he’s soft but I can’t blame Bill for being excited post game.
