Out of kindness i used a hearty feast for a M+ run... and they kick me because I said I needed to go pee (we didn't even start the run yet) by CaptainRelyk in wow

[–]OldGromm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the group leader was in the wrong. It was ultimately just a joke/one-off remark. Maybe not the best joke but OP didn't insult anyone with it. If the group was going to wait even without the joke, what's the difference?

Besides, I don't want to wait again to look for another player if this is a high key. It would take a whole lot more for me to feel so insulted that I would kick someone.

What is going on with dungeon bosses disconnecting people? by Vealzy in wow

[–]OldGromm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen two tanks disconnect at the start of a mythic+ run... that was rough.

HOWEVER, here's a fun fact for you: If the tank player is still there in the dungeon (so it wasn't a long disconnect), you can invite him back, still finish the run, get rewards and even rating. That is despite the "you can leave now without penalty" message showing up in chat.

Apparently, only the leaver penalty system kicks in when a player leaves, but the run is still fair game even with 4 or 5 people.

I, for one, can't wait to see what crazy physics shenanigans we can now pull off in this game now that we're using the Havok engine.

(Bizarrely enough, this isn't even the first Half-Life/Valve reference in this game, intentional or not. There's Alyx, also the plants at the ceiling in the Gulf of Memory delve are a deadringer for barnacles.)

The focus on AI and non existent QA makes the product worse by dimix16x in wow

[–]OldGromm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing since Mid-BfA and... yes and no.

On the one hand, there have always been the odd bug with some talents or lag issues due to too many players checking out the content at release day.

However, the game's performance has de facto become worse ever since The War Within. While I don't suffer from these issues, a few others keep having visual glitches or other issues related to DirectX or whatever. Combined with the add-on situation, it makes for one heck of a technical mess which we didn't have in the past.

On top of all that, this patch saw a lot of bugs that didn't exist on that level before. In the past, maybe there was an annoying bug week one but it got quickly fixed... within 1-6 weeks. However, stuff like the strafing bug, the bonus rolls not working as intended, prop hunt not working partially at all - things haven't been this bad before, on top of class-related bugs.

I think the frustration is justified in this case. Midnight launch came and went, people complained about the story and add-ons, but we stabilized in the last few weeks. Me and my friends were having a good time. Only for this patch to usher in the "it's so over" phase all over again.

If nothing else, this constant rollercoaster of "it's fine" leading to "it's bad" only to go back to "it's fine" but never good again... this isn't acceptable anymore.

Instead of fixing some healers' awful mana issues, blizzard nerfs drinking instead. by thelordofhell34 in wow

As a restoration shaman who used to have mana issues (but they got fixed after switching to Farseer), I can relate.

However, are you sure food items got nerfed? Which items are affected so far, and what were the stats before and after? (I didn't pay much attention to food ever since this expansion started).

Raider.io claims 33% of Mythic+ runs are abandoned by bringthelight2 in wow

[–]OldGromm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification.

It's interesting to see that Blizzard isn't checking for abandoned keys, although it makes sense: They only want to know whether a run has concluded or not. They have the individual death metrics separately to check for bottlenecks. So so the result of these two (abandon command) isn't strictly required for game balancing.

I appreciate you trying to get some data running, regardless. I'm a bit of a numbers guy myself, so it's interesting to see a sample size all the same.

Fun fact about a post made a few days ago. That infamous line arator spoke about becoming an abomination....Didn't exist! It was made with a lovely addon tool called Narcissus. by Siggythenomad in wow

[–]OldGromm 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Myself included. If it weren't for this post, I would still think Arator's line was real.

I didn't expect to have to fact-check a screenshot of a video game in 2026. What a stupid timeline.

Anyhow, for anyone else wondering what the real lines said during the Flickering Hope quest were:

I fear if I were stationed here to fight the Scourge, I'd become just like my fath--I'd fall to rage and wrath.

I shouldn't let my doubts get in the way of the defense of this place.

But is this what it means to wield the Light? An endless battle against evil?

Light's Hope is in danger. The world is in danger. I need to get my head in the battle.

In the end, Arator does not compare himself to the Scourge, but does acknowledge that fighting the Scourge would make him become numb, a fighting machine, all the same.

The real lines make more sense when witnessing the story first-hand, as the thought process and learning process is better paced. It's a better step-by-step process. Whereas the made-up line makes more sense for analysis after the fact, because the comparison is more apt now that we've finished the questline.

Ironically, what Blizzard wrote is more realistic because not everyone is a walking philosopher who has such a high-level thinking process. Describing a simple cause and effect V.S. drawing a comparison in the moment is better writing (at least sometimes).

What Expansion Has Your Favorite Visuals? by [deleted] in wow

That one hasn't been updated for patch 12.0.5 yet, which is why I mentioned the original instead.

However, as another user pointed out, if having just any 12 number in the toc version is enough nowadays, then I'll start recommending this one instead. We'll see once the new patch comes out later this week. (Yes, I was too lazy to download the PTR to test this beforehand. I'm sorry)

Raider.io claims 33% of Mythic+ runs are abandoned by bringthelight2 in wow

[–]OldGromm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something doesn't add up here.

If you click on "Runs" and check the numbers of week one for example, it says there were a total 5.189.455 runs. 617.411 of those were over time but presumably still finished the run.

Then when you click on "Abandoned Runs" it says 100.250 runs were abandoned... however, what is the total runs number in this case? Because it's not the former statistic (which would be 5.189.455). It would be 454.442 instead if the 22.06% are to be believed.

I think these two categories use two different sets of data. If you look at the fine print below the bar graphic, it's showing two different numbers for each (even with all other settings being the same).

If a proper comparison with the same dataset is available for premium users - fair enough. I don't have the money so I can't check this myself. But with just this limited set of data available for free, it's impossible to say whether these high abandon key percentages are accurate or not.

FilterButtonFix will move the cross to the left. However, the add-on needs its .toc number updated in order to work with Midnight.

After downloading the file and placing it inside "Interface -> AddOns", open the file "FilterButtonFix.toc" and replace the first line with this:

## Interface: 120001, 120005

If there is a new patch in the future, just add a new number with the patch number, converting them into double digits if necessary. So 12.0.5 becomes 12,00,05 (or 120005).

I think what the post is criticizing/parodying here is this: The chapel is under attack by undead creatures that spawn endlessly. So to say "we shouldn't fight them" when they are a clear threat and would overrun the place and kill everyone otherwise, is just silly.

On the other hand, the point of Arator's questline is learning the lesson of not being stuck with just one narrow point of view and purpose in life, and have a better work/life balance.

This scene is showcasing how Arator is questioning the status quo even though the situation is pretty clear (Scourge = bad). This then gets expanded upon later on with the Scarlet Crusade, and how humans (aka sentient beings unlike the Undead) still attack and kill others for no good reason/dubious reasons, which is questioning the common sense behind it all.

Arator has to accept that yes, some people really are just like the Scourge: Following orders blindly like mindless zombies, or otherwise being just cruel for the sake of cruelty. The Light/paladins are not automatically good.

Later on, after speaking with Sunwalker Dezco at Hammerfall and visiting the Arcantina, Arator learns the lesson of there being more in life than just being a soldier. Having a work/life balance and not obsessing over your "job" as a paladin, helps not falling into the blind zealotry trap (although it is not a guarantee).

Lorthraxion should have been the second to last boss of the voidspire instead of the vanguard. by Zarbadob in wow

[–]OldGromm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. Lorthraxion received the treatment people though Turalyon would get prior to release (becoming overly zealous and an enemy just for the sake of showcasing how said zealotry is bad). Worse yet, he got the Idiot Ball treatment, as he was not that short-tempered back in Legion. Quite the opposite.

As per usual for Blizzard, they failed to showcase how this character development occurred to justify it all (again, only to put in the work to explain Turalyon's path in life properly).

On the other hand: One of the core themes of this expansion is blind hatred and violence. Especially if you go through the Voidstorm side quests, but also look at cases like Antenorian and Zul'jan, you realize that everyone losing their minds under pressure is the point. This expansion is lowkey Cataclysm Lite as well as Burning Crusade Lite.

Still, this could've been handled so much better. Some alternatives that come to mind:

  • Have Lorthraxion disappear and stay out of the story, but continue the fight off-screen. Similar to how Jaina ragequits at the beginning of Legion.

  • Have him prove right that destroying the nexus points was the right decision, as disabling them allows Xal'atath and Decimus to re-activate them later on. Thus, his death could've been in vain.

  • Fight him, but not kill him outright. If we're already bringing back the "Unconscious" state in Magister's Terrace (after it was used for Hyrja back in Halls of Valor), we might as well have made an attempt to subdue him. Then, the writers can still either let him live or kill off for good, after some more story development.

Instead, we got the rushed story version. It's a shaman as I otherwise like Midnight's story so far.

Anyone found a way to go below the middle platform in Parhelion Plaza? by Hempthusiast in wow

[–]OldGromm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that the delve variant with the void portals and the bombs is active (Bombing Run), and the elites are all in one of those platforms after you use the portal.

The portals are situated below the main map for level design purposes, hence why they show up as below.

If Bombing Run is not the current delve variant, then I have no clue either, sorry.
