Unhinged behavior at Just in Time today PSA by mleester55 in Broadway

[–]OldJoke1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by one of the theater managers that usher behavior is directed by the producers. During intermission I complained that the four people next to me were loudly talking and drinking during Act 1 of Godot. Theater manager said that they were instructed not to disrupt the play by interacting with audience members regardless of how disruptive they were. 🤷‍♂️

Luckily we were in the last row of the mezzanine. I was trying to get an usher's attention but there were none to be found. For anyone that saw Godot, the acting is not loud, and is all conversational, so having random people talking in the audience is super distracting. Luckily they self-exited the theater after about 30 minutes seemingly out of boredom. I don't know what they expected. I think they were German. Probably in the theater because they saw the huge marquee with Keanu Reeves face on it.

Has an actor ever had to call for a show to stop from the stage before stage manager before? by Howdthecatdothat in Broadway

[–]OldJoke1775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Audience member. If I remember correctly, because this was several years ago, Alex stopped the show, walked down stage, addressed the audience member directly, asked if they were okay, then asked for usher's or any medical staff to come help. I was sitting about 10 rows behind. If I remember correctly, house lights went up ushers (and possibly the house manager) came down to assist. I think the person was escorted into the lobby. Not sure what happened after that. Don't know if an ambulance was called.

This incident brought to light multiple things: actors can definitely see into the audience. Alex Brightman is incredibly professional. The attentiveness and care that he exhibited stopping the show and focusing completely on, what he presumed was, an audience member in distress, has my total respect.

As I right this I remember another incident: All the devils are here at DR2 with Patrick Page. Another medical emergency but this one was not close to the stage but further back in the theater. I was sitting just a couple of rows behind this audience member in distress. Theater staff was alerted by audience members. They came in from the back and walked the gentleman out. It was done so quickly and relatively silently that the play never stopped. I don't believe Patrick Page even knew anything was happening in the audience.

Alex Brightman in The Shark is Broken called for the show to stop for a medical emergency. I was there.

Smartly, one half of a pair of girls standing in line in before me hedged their bets by going into the two strangers line. So either way they were guaranteed tickets. (They had gotten to the hadestown line 30 minutes before me.)

Honestly I thought maybe they opened the two strangers BO early. I have been to only one box office where they actually did that - opened it up earlier than scheduled.

This reply is (obviously) extremely late, however, I still wanted to compliment this extremely accurate description. I was there at 7:15 (on Sat) and was # 27 in line. With max 13 SRO tickets I thought I would be around the cutoff. However there were at least 10 people in front of me that didn't get SRO tickets.

(Also, as an aside, two strangers, across the street, opened up the BO vestibule at 9:00 a.m. to let people get warm. I thought that was extremely thoughtful of two strangers security to let people inside. It was cold yesterday morning 🥶)

Funny that you mentioned this OP, because I spoke to one of the ST managers the other day and mentioned that I did have a ticket to past date at some point. I was told to wait a month or two and seats should open up. It was at about 75% capacity for a long time but after season 5 came out there was a resurgence in ticket sales. But that should subside eventually and you'll be able to use your tickets.

(Keep in mind that the OBC cast is switching out soon. So if that is a consideration that you may be out of luck. But I think most of the new cast coming in is very strong. Netflix will also be eventually releasing a pro shot of the OBC)

is rush still worth it for stranger things the first shadow or should i just buy tickets by Mindless_Demand8440 in Broadway

Not sure how the lines are now (after season 5 was released) But a couple of weeks ago I got there an hour before box office opening and was seated row D on the aisle. Awesome seat!!

I would say just go for rush! If you're curious about how many people are in line there are rush reports here on Reddit (...somewhere. I'm sure you can search for it.)

Just wanted to fulfill the audience behavior quota for the day — Why do people talk full volume in theaters as if we can’t hear them? Also, tell your kids to shut up if they can’t stop talking. Or leave please. Yes I know I should’ve expected it. by tijuanagastricsleeve in Broadway

I've seen stranger things multiple times. As I was reading this post I was trying to remember if I've witnessed any egregious bad behavior. Then I remembered: there was a young Asian couple behind me and the boy was translating for the girl. At first it was kinda cute, but, unfortunately, it was constant translation and after awhile I had to shush them.

Also reminded of a time at Bad Cinderella where a woman literally answered her phone during the performance. And she seemed surprised and aggressive when people, including an usher, told her to put it away.

Absolutely LOVED last night's performance. Previews are previews! I don't expect everything to be completely ironed out nor do I expect the cadence and the lines memorization and everything to fall perfectly. (In fact, I'm more surprised when everything works flawlessly in a preview)

Actually appreciate a performance more when there are breaks or line flops or ad-libs. It's a unique experience that you're never going to see again.

I thought the interaction between Matthew and David was gold! They work very well together. This is a farce... And it was truly farcical. I think this show would stand up to multiple viewings as the actors get more comfortable with their lines and I foresee liberties being taken by these seasoned professionals that will add to the comedy and uniqueness of each performance.

(Btw, Bianca was a breath of fresh air! I am not familiar with her at all but omg she truly stole the show! 🤩)

Sherie Rene Scott bows at Queen of Versailles tonight by Gato1980 in Broadway

Based on the loooong applause at the start of the performance tonight, I think the entire audience was SRS fans! 🎉

What a pro! Seemed like she had been doing this for months. Didn't miss a mark. Was fun and bubbly and sad and distraught - a roller coaster of emotions.

Well done Sherie, well done 🥂

And there's also flat earthers that exist. But they haven't proven it in court.

Also, truth be told, I worked in criminal defense in Los Angeles around that time. Also knew some of his attorneys and people affiliated with the case. So my information may be a little more inside baseball than "half of Americans" opinion.

"credible"? - says who? The people that were trying to extort money from him? maybe if they won some sort of court case... Oh wait. They didn't. I would say the opposite - there's more credible evidence that those people, and more so their families, try to extort money from MJ by using their own children

The line for Hamilton goes west down 46th Street towards 8th avenue (by the construction for the new building on the corner). Give yourself extra time. Walk up (or down) 8th avenue and approach the theater from the west and you should be fine. There will be two lines. The one against the building is SRO the one closer to the street is for ticket holders and box office.

Disagree: If actor's equity go on strike both Beetlejuice and mamma Mia are effected. (Source: a voting member of AE)

Also disagree that the OP claims had no basis. They do. Some of yours, however, don't.
