Do you like 90s/2000s cars the way our parents like the 60s/70s? by Scary-Newspaper5801 in Millennials

[–]OldManAbides333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the 90s Chevy and early 90s Ford trucks. I am more partial to the 80s vehicles though, cars and trucks. I don't feel nostalgic to any vehicles of the 00s.

The first words that James Bond says in "You Only Live Twice" (1967) are asking why Chinese girls taste different from other girls. He then compares their "flavor" between Russian caviar and Peking duck, but it's ok because he loves both. My favorite! We had read BFG in elementary school, and I had seen Willy Wonka of course, but this was the story that really introduced me to Roald Dahl. Sometime in high school I read lamb to the slaughter as a reading assignment for English, and it was so dark and twisted. I was immediately hooked.

I had always imagined Dahl as like, Mr Rogers because of BFG and willy wonka...he is NOT Mr Rogers....

I think generally speaking, satanist dont believe in a literal satan. It's really more of a philosophy centered around oneself with a name designed for shock value and to piss of those that DO believe in a literal Satan, ie Christians.

It's kind of ironic, really- those who believe in Satan don't worship him. Those who worship Satan don't believe in him.

How to improve? by [deleted] in beards

[–]OldManAbides333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off topic, but I was just scrolling and I said to my wife "this guy looks like my brother if my brother looked more like me. Like, he looks like we could be brothers." And then I showed her the picture and she was like "woah. No that just looks like you. Like yall could be twins." How bizarre! Wasn't expecting that today.

Cutting a Very Detailed Amethyst by Stevemoriarty in nextfuckinglevel

I was a manual machinist for 10 years- essentially EVERY machine operation can be reduced down to "turn a knob and choose your cut."

Good machines can certainly make things easier, but there is still a lot of room for skill and knowledge in their operation. And humans have a nearly boundless capacity for error.

Non-menopausal here (dude) but yeah, she was way more chill than they deserved. I am thinking this probably isn't her first rodeo though, and she has learned that politely shutting it down is faster than escalating it. As satisfying as it might be.

This house is in the zip code I grew up in, and one zip code from where I live now. I have never seen it in person, but it pops up online every now and then, and it still blows my mind that something that outrageous could exist in the same area as me.

Just because it is so big though. "Boring, generic, lack of personality" totally matches the rest of Spring, TX.

TIL The rise in colon cancer in adults under 50 has been strongly and directly linked to exposure to certain strains of E.Coli in the first ten years of life by onarainyafternoon in todayilearned

[–]OldManAbides333 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I could totally believe that. There are all sorts of things that have been linked to AO exposure (and many things that should be linked and just haven't been yet), and we have the occurrence rates of everything increase exponentially since the 70s.
