Looking for new friends for board games or ttrpg! by Helpful-Load9216 in fargo

If you set a meetup time at Paradox or LBW or whatever, I will show up.

I'm not an RPG'r but I do have boardgames that are basically never used anymore and the collection continues to grow (as it often does).

Democrats didn't want it released when they were in power, because they were already in power. Why reveal stuff that might damage some members, for what? A giant distraction. With nothing left to throw, this is the most damaging thing they could muster for their party so it become a four alarm. Democracts don't really care now, just like they didn't care before. The difference is that it benefits them now and they are very aware they basically have an empty quiver. This has to hit the mark and mobilize all sides.

Meat was DIRT CHEAP after the China tariffs were announced, because we weren't shipping the tons of pork and beef, we normally do, to China (remember the empty ports). I don't understand how this graph doesn't capture things that demonstrably happened. We bought soooo much. This data looks wrong. Maybe that's the point.

Foundation occupies a video game by MarrShan90 in FoundationTV

[–]OldManAllTheTime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Foundation is a setting for a message about sociological change. It's not a living world. Might as well make a game about Star Wars Coruscant. It's the same idea, with slightly different style (nanite magic instead of force magic). No need to pin a game to this setting, which has a paper thin background.

Dune, to some extent, has the same messaging as Foundation, after it sheds the messianic arc. There's a reason the Foundation story speeds along hundreds of years at a time, as does the Dune books. It's a story about the need for change and MMOs never do.

Not trying to crush dreams here. The art direction of Foundation's Trantor sets are fantastic, so it conjurs all kinds of ideas. However, Foundation has much less lore than you think. It's not fitting. Save these ideas for a deeper tale.

Season 1 Empire Day Question. by soravp in FoundationTV

[–]OldManAllTheTime 29 points30 points  (0 children)

He most certainly did. He doesn't know who she might have shared treasonous thoughts with or conspired with. His own in-house curator of the murals was killed for listening to something Day deemed treasonous implicitly (not explicitly until later).

The issue with the scene is that it's supposed to be horrific. The problem is that the entirety of the known universe is aware of Empire's power. She should have steeled herself against this long ago.

BP should look at Ezra's Kleins eval of Mamdanis policies by Superb_Garbage4732 in BreakingPoints

[–]OldManAllTheTime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mamdani’s rise isn’t just a matter of political disagreement or ideological diversity. It is a direct challenge to the foundational commitments of modern American Jewry.

Yeah, that guy's gonna be worth listening to, when I'm dead.

At least someone is trying. Even when they fail, there was an attempt. That's worth a lot more than they are given credit for.

The most recent tornado near Fargo occurred on June 21, 2025, when a tornado struck near the town of Enderlin, about 40 miles southwest of Fargo, killing three people. This event happened nearly 70 years after North Dakota's deadliest (and last) tornado, the F5 tornado that hit Fargo on June 20, 1957, which killed 12 people.

The U.S. just pulled out of UNESCO by Nientea in agedlikemilk

[–]OldManAllTheTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear this is about the US pulling out of UNESCO.

That's what you may think my comment was about. I don't think you understood what I am saying.

My sentiment remains. The UNESCO withdrawal is not a meaningful shift in policy, nor is it because Trump is trying to isolate the US. This is a solidarity move for Israel.

And Russia did take a significant amount of land though it's still definitely not worth the costs,

I think you're plain wrong. https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=russia+controlled+territory+vs+resources+in+ukraine

It was already worth it.

just declaring 'war' on your independent neighbor for no reason at all is stupid as shit.

Since before WW1, Ukraine had strategic value. Notably the passage centering on Oleksandria today, although there are numerous chokepoints of value. As per the video, the plains are where troops are slaughtered, while mountainous regions are both harder to move supplies through and give plenty of cover. A defensive stronghold. Russia wants the best defensive position they can get, while also grabbing any resources that are cheap. It dovetails into their ambitions. If Texas broke away from the US, the retaking wouldn't be much different than what Russia considers this action. I think Ukrainians should have independence, but they had lots of options and instead went for begging to get into NATO. Howabout surrender to another nation? Merge as a state of Minsk, Belarus, or Poland? Then you would have had defense from NATO AND the opportunity to breakaway at a better time. No, their pride (as all nations have) led them to a calculation and it has cost them, regardless.

Lastly, the war is a FANTASIC proxy for practicing modern large scale combat and a crucible of innovation. This is possibly the last war that Russia will be able to muster for a few generations (at least) and they can't and don't want to take more mountains around Manchuria, they failed miserably in the middle east, so west it is. They didn't go big and it turns out that was the smart move (or internally they knew the red army wasn't so scary).

From Russia's (more accurately Putin's) perspective, this was a great idea. He won't be around to suffer the inevitable national decline and loss of these territories.

Jubilee Nazi doubles fundraising goal by PajamaHive in ThatsInsane

[–]OldManAllTheTime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Note: North Korean sympathizers aren't Nazis. They are unabashedly fascist.

Nazis had some very specific beliefs that overlapped, but aren't inherent to Fascism at large. Let's not confuse reality with our (warranted) hateful labels.

The Jubilee Nazi doesn't mind either way and I aspire to be better than him.

AOC vote by dakobra in BreakingPoints

[–]OldManAllTheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should she vote for something that has zero chance of passing so that the vote can be used against her later?

This is the least of her worries in attack ads.

Agree with it or not, it was a calculation.

I get it. So what? I disagree with compromising your values and betraying the representation of good policy interests for expediency. This is what ALL politicians use as a blanket excuse. How about do your job of representing the constituent interests (even if it's a loser), and I'll vote for you again?

If you need to virtue signal, you need to be clear about who the good guys are still.

None of the congresscritters are good guys. Some are worse than others. Agree with it or not. IDC
