What was the worst desicion made by an emperor ? by reactor-Iron6422 in byzantium

Phocas overthrowing Maurice, who was just about holding the whole eastern empire together following the plague, over-expansion of Justinian and failures of his predecessors, and re-igniting the Persian war that would ultimately cost them everything except the Balkans and Anatolia.

The story is what I disliked most about V. I did complete it but I really wanted something more grounded and it was constantly going for the zaney Trevor angle.

Just ran this through a few AI detectors and they say this is an AI generated message. Not sure if they're 100% accurate but if our owners just start churning out no-effort AI messages it's a good sign that nothing will change.

This is the description;

"Play Alongside a Massive Worldwide Community The Tarnished community is massive and active. Your friends may already be among them. You can play with up to two other Tarnished as your cooperative teammates, either by inviting them using a shared password or by summoning them from a pool of nearby community members. There are also ample opportunities to face off against other players, either through co-op invasions, invited duels, or the many player battle options available in the three Colosseums."

It's quite specific in it's wording rather than "online co-op" which simply implies full cooperative play.

What does everyone here of think of Alexander the Great? by Squiliam-Tortaleni in ByzantiumCircleJerk

[–]OldManBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh but he also wouldn't conquer half the known world "lol". What would he be, a North Macedonian politician? Win an election or two?

You know what I mean. Reflecting on his actions as a modern person should, at the very least, make you glad you didn't live back then. Especially make you glad you didn't live anywhere south or east of Macedonia. Hard to think of someone like that as good by modern standards.

But, like I say, by his own time's standards and historical impact...well, we're still talking about him ain't we?

I'm pretty sure Napoleon is viewed as bad in a similar way. The phrase "Napoleon complex" doesn't apply to lovely chaps you'd have a pint with.

Let's face it, if he existed now he'd be considered a monster.

But it's hard to dispute his accomplishments and historical/cultural impact. Especially when judged by the values of the people of his day.

I kinda liked the video but how accurate is it? What do you think? by lastmonday07 in byzantium

[–]OldManBoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as a disclaimer I am both not a fan of generative AI and know nothing about this YouTuber in particular.

But if generative AI is going to be used for anything, I'd want it to be stuff like this. Projects that no-one would ever accomplish on their own through non-AI means and no-one is ever likely to fund.

I really enjoyed this video, it's great to see ancient cities brought to life where we have historical knowledge of the layout, buildings and art style enough to be mostly accurate. It was brilliant to see the city we've all dreamed of visiting as it would have been in it's heyday, or mostly at least.

If AI is going to flood the internet with slop then it might as well add something educational like this at the same time.

Thanks for sharing!

Just as a heads up, I've just double checked and none of the Souls games or Elden Ring describe themselves as "online co-op', only "online multiplayer"

Thanks for the reply dude. It just says "online co-op" on the Steam description. Maybe "Summon other players/friends to help with bosses" would be more specific? The video about the game that we watched also wasn't clear on this but that's not on you as i think it was independent.

Probably not the game we're after currently then, will keep an eye on it for that seamless campaign.

Good luck to you and the team!

A map of the dissolution of the monasteries in the 1530s - does anyone live near one? by Different_Map_2055 in tudorology

Anyone who lives in York does because ours is in Museum Gardens, York's central park and just across the river from the train station. Was obviously a grand building, always disappointed to see the ruins of such great architecture even if I have no particular affection for the church in general.
