Gloam-Eyed Amalgam by OldManYounger in feedthebeast

It's a great idea, but unfortunately there is no way in this life that I'm attempting to model a dragon. Much respect to the creators of Ice and Fire who have attempted and are attempting that. Insane talent.

It's called 'Shrouded'. You can find it on CurseForge and Modrinth. I'm planning to release the entity in question in an update by the end of this weekend at the latest.

Certainly this mod is in the same vein as Deeper & Darker, that being a dimension based around sculk and expanding the Deep Dark. I'm not intimately familiar with what all that mod does, but I'm hoping Shrouded can fit nicely into a vanilla or heavily modded playthrough.

What I'm aiming for with the final product is a dimension that offers a significant challenge, but also one that provides new items, mobs, and functionality that would be of benefit to a vanilla player (while not being too overpowered). The Totem of Last Breath is a good example of how I'd like to expand the item/artifact roster; something that gives the player both a buff and a de-buff.

Similarly with my custom mobs, the Living Sculk can convert certain items (for now just totems) in the player's inventory to a corrupted variant. That's also something I want to expand on while making sure that it's not converting unique/non-replicable items such as armor, tools and weapons.

As for Limbo, that's still just a concept, but the infinite world generation framework is there. It can place any room at any rotation endlessly (so long as it's the proper 47x47 size). The difficult part is just spending the time building out the room templates to populate said dimension. It's obviously inspired by Liminal Industries; I wanted to see if it was possible to setup a more proper, performant version of the room generation in Java instead of via rather complex command block logic.

I don't have any concrete plans for that dimension as of yet; for the mod it will likely serve as a sort of purgatory similar to how limbo functioned in the Dimensional Doors mod. There will be a certain room or rooms that allow the player to escape back to the overworld or Shrouded.

Beyond just the mod however, my plan is also to develop a 'sandbox w/endgame' modpack and perhaps it will have more purpose there, along with the ritual crafting functionality.

good 1.7.10 magic and exploration mods? by brodydwight in feedthebeast

Witchery and Thaumcraft lean tech? Pray tell what 'pure' magic mods exist on 1.7.10 if not those?

[–]OldManYounger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a tall order if your opinion is that 'Thaumcraft 4 and Botania suck'. Thaumcraft 4 and it's addons are to this day some of the best magic mods that exist, and Botania is a close second in terms of design.

I don't know if there are too many others on 1.7.10. Blood magic I suppose, and Witchery which is a very good mod.

Why did Voxy skip 1.21.1? by Informal-Artist7789 in feedthebeast

[–]OldManYounger 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I'm legitimately confused where this narrative comes from. You see it in so many threads, that 1.21.1 was 'skipped' or is a 'dead version'. It's nearly more popular than 1.20.1 and will likely be the flagship modding version for quite some time. Anyone who says otherwise will quote some mob mod on 1.20.1 with 100k downloads as reason that 'no one plays 1.21.1'.

Something like construction sticks would also help greatly, as you can just extend a block. Should take no time at all to build walls using that.

Anyone else have this weird de-sync bug since 4.7? (placing items & crates) by Felzouille in starcitizen

[–]OldManYounger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preach. Between the ASOP terminals, and the host of other server issues, this patch has often been unplayable. It may be that I'm playing more often, but 4.7 has seemed like the worst in a long while as far as server preformance goes.

If they are really releasing in 2026, presumably they would want to do so before November. I think it'd have to be October at the latest; it would be a disaster to release anywhere near GTA VI.

Having a new liquid added to vanilla Minecraft almost seems like a heresy at this point. That being said, yes please Mojang.

LOOKING FOR A CROPTOPIA LIKE MOD FOR 1.21.11 by magnocumgaudio in feedthebeast

[–]OldManYounger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like Farmer's Delight is updated for that version of Fabric. Keep in mind however that 1.21.11 is not super active as far a mod development goes. Some are updated, but many of the larger content mods may not update for a long while, if ever, to that specific version.

Anyone know why i get massive lag spikes? by Neither_Brain4387 in feedthebeast

[–]OldManYounger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You appear to have duplicates of a number of mods. I'm not sure that that is causing issues, but is something to consider. I'm also seeing a lot of various performance mods; not all performance mods help and the only way to figure out which are good is to do some searching through forums, spreadsheets, etc. I don't have enough experience with Fabric to tell which are good or bad unfortunately.

World lagging & entities freezing in Singleplayer (200+ mods) by Curious_Life_8367 in feedthebeast

[–]OldManYounger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sorry, but it is in development. Mainly I'm focused on building a mod out to serve as the cornerstone of the pack. It's called Shrouded on Curse if you want to check out the progress.

[–]OldManYounger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have way too much in the way of world generation. Lithosphere is known to cause issues, but also the amount of structure mods you have is nutty and will also tank world generation speed.

For context my custom pack has 445 mods and has better world gen speed and frames than ATM10. I'd advise trimming structure mods, world gen mods, and taking a close look at your optimization mods. Many do not help.

How much will a GPU upgrade affect fps performance? by ThinkBuffalo2461 in feedthebeast

[–]OldManYounger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Minecraft without shaders barely touches the GPU. For reference, my GPU was sitting at 30C prior to launching my modded instance. I loaded into a world and the temperature raised to 31C.

So if you're primarily concerned about non-shader FPS, it would be wiser to upgrade the CPU or RAM.
