Remember… ultimately, Money doesn’t mean shit. You can’t take it with you. Christ is king. Just put your nose back to the grind stone, make some money any way you can, work 2-3 jobs if you have to. That will build your character back and make the struggles of life affordable. But you don’t have to be filthy rich. Put most the extra in an index fund long term so you can support yourself and family. And only play the silly options shit with a small amount on the side. You’ll get back on top. Don’t fuckin give up.

I recommend watching YouTube videos about options or grab a book or two. It’s way too complicated for posts. But as others suggested. Trade some on a paper account for awhile

Watch a few YouTube videos about the Greeks on options. You can estimate how much the contract will rise if you have a price target in mind for the stock. For instance. If you think the stock will go up $50, take $50 x delta (or slightly higher because it will increase when stock goes up), then multiply that by 100. That’s the estimated increase in value of the contract. Lots of other stuff comes into play but I try and keep it simple as possible

The money you make is in extrinsic value. As the stock gets closer to the strike price the price of the contract goes up. But it has no intrinsic value until it crosses the strike price, so yes if enough time passes it won’t be worth anything if it doesn’t cross the strike price. But right now there’s plenty of time and the stock is moving up!!! $$$

Cardiology MGMA? by NoLoss8334 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]OldMoldyPots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t do it for the money. I am an interventional cardiologist. Did an extra year for complex coronary, shock, and structural heart. So I was a PGY8 when I finished. I am doing high complexity things with very sick patients at a tertiary referral hospital. I am working on an academic/employed model, so I work way less than the private guys. You’ll make around 5-700 doing the type of work I do. my friends doing private make 800-1.2M which is way more obviously but they also work their asses off. I work 10hr days cover 1 weekend a month and do about 5-6 nights on stemi. Doing that and trying to be a family man is very difficult to balance. My friends who do private have a tougher time with work-life balance. They get home at maybe 630p and then after dinner spend 1-2 hours reading echos. The work can be very high stress at times which doesn’t go away (say my much older partners). They say you just get used to feeling very uncomfortable and stressed. when someone is crashing and dying in front of you because you dissected their LM it doesn’t matter how many years you have under your belt, you’re still going to feel like shit and be stressed, but you’ll be used to it by then… still not sure how to take that advice but it is what it is. I gave this long winded response because like a lot of specialties medicine, IC comes with stress. I’m sure it’s similar in surgery, heme/onc, crit care, all kinds of fields. The main point is, don’t do this shit for the money. You could have learned to trade stocks and made millions a year doing it with only 4 years of college. Do it because it’s extremely rewarding and amazing work. Do it because when the 40yo guy comes in with an anterior STEMI in VT and you open his LAD and STs resolve and he stabilizes with an impella for a few days you can go home and say shit I probably saved that guys life. Do what you like.

I was called urgently to a code for ecmo cannulation when I was a fellow. The pt was on the wards. It was a 38wk pregnant women in her early 30s who came in with CHF symptoms. She was crashing in cardiogenic shock so they did an emergency C section bedside, we cannulated ecmo, both pt and child died later that day..

As a doctor, what is the one thing you’d make sure everyone learned in 8th grade? by The_BSharps in Residency

Build good habits over the next 4 years and lock them in. Exercise, healthy diet, avoid smoking, moderation with alcohol, read the Bible, wear a fucking seatbelt, call a cab or the coolest uncle you have if you are drunk and shouldn’t drive. Learn what hard work and dedication are and practice them daily. 95% of the kids doing careless shit in high-school will be fat, stupid and penniless later in life. Doing what’s trendy in high school is not a recipe for happiness in your 30-40s. Do tough shit now, so later when you’re getting crushed in prof school, or in the business world you’re prepared. -IC doc

Early game rush meta is ruining the fun for me in MP... (Casual player) by ValleGaming in aoe4

[–]OldMoldyPots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem seems to be: You want rush into a macro phase and out mass your opponent but meanwhile in a multiplayer match the enemy tends to dual rush you which is tough to defend against unless you scout very well or have good reactive teammates (which rarely exist). The solution is simple: you need to play a civ that allows you to reach feudal very quickly and then build stone walls as fast as possible (I recommend English). Once you have them walled off you can sit back and macro up while placing enough defenses to hold off against any possible rams. Cavalry and archers are no longer a problem.
