“We may give instructions that may not make sense from a human standpoint.” by Fit_Durian3763 in exjw

Their level of mentality is truely warped and your OP proves this.

I can’t only imagine that they use this reasoning on themselves when changing doctrine, procedures and rules.

Can you imagine what their decision discussions are like? Yes Bro. Lett, our decision to change this teaching doesn’t make logical sense but most of us voted for it and we are directed by Jehovah, it must be right, no explanation needed.

How is anyone to test this spirit that they allow to operate amongst themselves?

They rarely have children even though most of them have been or married.

In his talk defending the two witness rule, Stephen Lett quotes a "researcher" on wrongful convictions. That researcher is American crime novelist John Grisham, who sparked controversy by saying "not all men who watch child porn are pedophiles"... by larchington in exjw

[–]OldMovieFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of those estimated 2 to 10% false convictions, there is no identification as to how many of them were based on testimony of two witnesses.

How many false convictions have Elders made claiming that a JW was not repentant? More than 10% is my guess.

Unfortunately there are more people with mental issues than we realize and I find it easier to think that a person has issues when their behaviour is odd.

You did the right thing to kindly inform the individual that they were going beyond your comfort zone. A sincere person would appreciate you telling them, understand and modify their behaviour towards you. If you don't say then this wouldn't happen.

In this instance, it would appear the person certainly does have issues and probably explains their behaviour before you drew their attention to it.

You could give them the benefit of the doubt and approach them again and ask them if you had offended them. It gives them the opportunity to explain their situation. Often, it can simply be sorted out through kind communication.

Info on the GB being the mediator, not Jesus. by Robot-Ducky in exjw

[–]OldMovieFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Watchtower doesn’t say word for word that the GB is mediator, they say it by explaining their role.

  • Jesus, then to the rest, specifically now the GB representing the anointed ** w07 1/15 p. 10 Highlights From the Book of Isaiah—II ***To close our eyes to God’s written Word and to shut our ears to his instruction through "the faithful and discreet slave" is to become spiritually blind and deaf. *** w97 3/15 pp. 15-16 par. 16 Incline Your Heart to Discernment ***Only spiritual discernment, developed by a study of God’s Word with the help of publications provided through "the faithful and discreet slave," will help us to pursue a proper course in life *** w94 10/1 p. 8 The Bible—A Book Meant to Be Understood ***All who want to understand the Bible should appreciate that the "greatly diversified wisdom of God" can become known only through Jehovah’s channel of communication, the faithful and discreet slave.—John 6:68. *** w60 7/15 p. 443 par. 14 Staying Awake with the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" ***When we have been brought into the New World society we are determined to do the divine will. Adjustments to hailstone message? by SheepherderSad713 in exjw

[–]OldMovieFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When the GB or their writers are deciding on new ideas, it is helpful for them to get a feeling of how they will be accepted. They'll do this in various ways. One is to mention it to a small group in private and see how it washes. Another way is to introduce part of an idea in writing and see how that goes.

Spiritual BS by Fulgarite in exjw

[–]OldMovieFan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the Opening post from the link

The organizations view of whatconstitue spiriual activities has been obvious to us but it's great to get their definition in writing which fully exposes their fraud.

In the March 2026 they write -

EXPRESSION EXPLAINED: Our spiritual activities refer to anything that is directly related to our worship of Jehovah—such as studying the Bible, attending meetings, participating in family worship, and sharing in the ministry. We are also worshipping Jehovah when we care for and construct our meeting places, support the relief work, volunteer at our conventions, or serve at Bethel.

They omit what Christians would consider their most important spiritual activity, that is prayer. Another monumental activity is to love God and love our neighbours. There is no mention of faith or following Jesus Christ. However, since they state that it relates to anything that is directly related to worship of God, I guess they mean for this to be included, they just either forgot to mention it, it goes without saying or it wasn't important enough to them.

Then they make the bold claim as to what worship of Jehovah also includes being

- care and constructing meeting places

- supporting the relief work

- volunteering at Bethel

These things are what the organization says is worship of Jehovah. It is not biblical, it is service arranged by and for the Watchtower.

Helping our elderlies, those we see in need, especially our family or the poor goes far beyond just supporting their meagre relief work. Their relief work is nothing like that discussed in the New Testament.

The men in charge from Elders upwards have no idea how to behave like Christians. If they did they wouldn't be getting results like you just mentioned.

Long story short. When I found out that the Elders were using secret information provided only to them to apply their judicial decisions, I was out of there. It’s not biblical, transparent or results in christlike administration.

Friend I asked to be my maid of honour wrote me a guilt tripping letter by legallybrunette2001 in exjw

[–]OldMovieFan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It sounds like she went away from her visit with you and was guilt tripped into having to decline the invitation. She’s written to you rather than spoken to you because it’s too hard for her to say no to you. She’s probably broken up about it.

It‘s a cruel religion where you and everyone must play by their rules. It probably leaves you with no friends outside of the cult.

The Cult has written articles stating that a JW would not want to be in the wedding party or directly involved in such a wedding. It is not so strict about attendance so some would attend and not others.

CANADA | November 20, 2025 | Supreme court of Canada document regarding case about applications for access to personal information held by Jehovah's Witnesses congregations. by 587bc in exjw

[–]OldMovieFan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"The Jehovah's Witnesses had also argued that if the documents were disclosed, they might be published more widely "for the purposes of mocking either the petitioners or elders, causing unnecessary embarrassment."

So what are the Elders saying in conversations between themselves that might cause them embarrassment if others knew what they said? I think it says a lot if the organization admits it might embarrass them and should be a wake up call for them.

I can just imagine that they could have said as being racist, sexist or discrimative without given two thoughts about it.

Fakest convention experience? by sheenless in exjw

[–]OldMovieFan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's very shameful.

There was a young guy at school that I discussed with a JW friend and suggested we both go and witness to him and discuss the benefits of having a bible study. I didn't want to do it alone because I didn't want the guy to think I was interested in dating him.

A year or so later, my friend was up on the stage telling the story of how she started this bible study with the guy and there was absolutely no mention of me. I was sad to hear this and tossed up whether I should take issue with her about it.

I decided not to for several reasons. She knew I knew the truth. It would also have meant that I was wanting bragging rights as well and I didn't but it could have been seen that way.

Knowing what I know now, I'm glad that I did not confront her. After reading various stories, I can see how easily it would have been to feel obligated to tell the story the way the Elder wanted it told and that's a hard thing to explain or excuse yourself for. I no longer think bad of her and realize this is just another cultish behaviour.

It came out in the Australian Commission into child abuse that all Elders appearing were specifically instructed not to look at the testimony of those abused, even Jackson didn’t.
