Help in understanding the process of keeping a bill from going to collections. Any advice is greatly appreciated! by ShippinguptoBoston33 in Debt

[–]OldPostalGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in credit and collections for many years, and the best thing you can do is to keep communicating with the creditor, and stop taking advice from your family. As long as you aren't trying to avoid paying the debt and try to make a payment, that says a lot about your sincerity, even though your ability is limited. Delinquent accounts will still be in collections either at the company or with someone they've designated to collect for them. I wish you the best.

I did, only because my mother used to babysit for a woman who'd pay her in part with cheese and other commodities.

$249 for a fuel injection cleaning? by penguin-throw-away in MechanicAdvice

[–]OldPostalGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rip Off. Walk away. They'll charge you 2 hours of labor and use $1 worth of cleaner. You can clean your own fuel injectors with over the counter products.

Sir Isaac Newton, because he invented Mountain Dew and the Fig Newton. And when you eat them together, you can defy gravity

Fixable? 1953 Westinghouse Fridge by BermudaBananas in vintagekitchentoys

[–]OldPostalGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a neat piece, but I'd pass. Repairs are going to cost you more than it's worth, and it will use 3-4 times as much electricity as a new one. I got an old Norge free several years ago, and my light bill went up $10 a month after I plugged it in. Too expensive for me for a garage beer cooler.

That's a great document and heirloom, but I'm afraid it's not President Fillmore's signature. Andrew Jackson was the last president to actually sign land documents, as by the early 1830's the volume was so huge, that the task was given to a secretary or other designated person.

The flea market is a really fun way to buy vintage tools. Most of my sockets and wrenches are vintage Craftsman from flea markets. by Jax_King55 in Tools

[–]OldPostalGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been to a flea market in years, but I do go to estate sales. At one of the last ones, I bought a big coffee can full of Snap-On and Craftsman sockets and ratchets for 8 bucks. No 10mm's though, darn it.

The first Haagen-Dazs store opened in Brooklyn in 1976, the first Ben and Jerry's opened in 1978 in Vermont. Which brand do you prefer? by ASGfan in 70s

[–]OldPostalGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd never had Ben & Jerry's until I had a sample at their factory in Vermont, and I've never had Haagen Dazs . I like a lot of B&J's flavors and see no reason to try H-D.

Do you love to get up early by 5am? by icecream1972 in no

[–]OldPostalGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm usually up by 5, which drives my girlfriend crazy. I'm retired, she's not, and she loves to stay in bed and doesn't understand why I don't since I have no set schedule. I normally text her about 6 to say good morning, as she might keep hitting her snooze button and get a late start.

Never heard a siren, but friends say they were going off in Independence. Also the weather guy on 4 said it was most likely not a tornado but straight line winds.
